Probably because Japan has a a DEEEEP bench, they always aren’t doing the same thing, no matter the match and how good they play, notice how frequently they change their starting-up line every match, I don’t think it is about empathy or pity for the players, like I don’t think the coach of Japan’s team thinks “This poor player is trying so hard so I will put him instead of this player at the next match.” I think it comes from a place of strategy, teams would have just developed new tactics againts Yuji Nishida for example if he would have played every match. It makes the players that do play at the match Hyper-Focus, it makes the opponents confused, and it makes every player of the team try harder in practice.

@@BelderTheBlender no, he actually got replaced by Ran and osuka. You’re referring to the current strategy, which is true, but Yanagida is no longer in the japan national team.

@@tuguldurtuugii4135 I don't think so. There are other players older than him..(Fukusawa) for example... I have not idea what is their criteria 🤔🤔🤔🤔 unfortunately, it is bad for a great player as Yanagida.
