Masai Giraffes Face Threat of Inbreeding, Extinction

Another endangered species is nearly on the chopping block and researchers at Penn State University are sounding the alarm on just how dire the situation is. Native to Africa, the Masai giraffe is having difficulty breeding with each other, due in part to poachers and a valley running through Kenya and Tanzania. The subspecies has divided into two groups that haven't interbred in more than 250,000 years. Inside Edition Digital’s Stephanie Officer has more.

Poaching is a huge problem, but I think another reason that they’re endangered is because 90% to 95% of male giraffes mate with other males…even if they were fighting over a female first. The things you learn when you’re older.

@@erinboateng5961 I think it’s both. Sometimes, a species is endangered for more than one reason. Like with pandas, they have really low sex drives and high standards when looking for a mate. And if they do have babies, the mama panda won’t care for the baby if she thinks it’s too weak. The neglected babies will survive if they’re raised by human caretakers in animal sanctuaries, but they wouldn’t survive on their own in the wild. But again, poaching has always been a big problem and needs to be eliminated. And we need to help endangered animals mate and have babies, or care for orphaned babies, so they won’t go extinct.

We need to create more natural animal sanctuaries with good security to prevent poachers and animal traffickers from getting their hands on these beautiful creatures.

Catch 10 Eastern Males swap it to Western10 Males. Do it for around 5 times to add new pool of sperm to the population of each area. Its hard work but it will work.
