The whole point of Roshi using a psuedo-Ultra Instinct had an extra meaning to it. To establish the difference in how Ultra Instinct functions between the anime and manga. In the anime, Ultra Instinct is just yet another limit breaking form. Goku's close proximity to his Genkidama and Kefla gsve him extra energy by association, so his body was able to break through a boundary. Same deal when Vegeta gave him energy directly. There's nothing that lets it stand out as special. In the manga, though, it's clearly a technique. A technique that Roshi has his own, lesser variant on, and showing it off to Goku helps Goku understand. Ultra Instinct is not about powering up and gathering energy to transform. It's about clearing your mind into a state of total calm and emptiness so that your body will react on instinct alone, removing the brief but vital wasted time of thought. And then that gets expanded in Moro, with Merus explaining that being able to remain calm in the face of shock is how to access the Mastered variant at will. And THAT is being expanded in the Granolah arc with Whis saying that Goku shouldn't need to transform to use Ultra Instinct and that the goal is to make Ultra Instinct something Goku is using constantly, whether he transforms or not. It all starts with Roshi in the manga, and I love it.

@LightBringer6663 жыл бұрын
@@paxtonstewart8042 i actually think it's smart. in this way toyotaro made the best he could out of the issue of blue being introduced so early... the form is impressive and strong, but its taxing to use and thus they should have focused on God instead of jumping to blue the moment they achieved the "new highest powerlevel". i don't think it undermines hit whatsoever, i think it handled it better than the anime's "oooh hype hit's getting stronger as he fights" crap. it shows that winning a battle isn't just about acquiring high power or using the same overpowered move. it's about how you use your brains in the fight to achieve victory. anyway, in the black arc right after it, this set up culminates in how both goku and vegeta take on the challenge of using SSB to its maximum. vegeta opts for SSG to conserve stamina and only push himself in bursts, while goku opts for pure strength gain. by the end of the black arc we see that both goku and vegeta have not really perfected the form, and still have a challenge for their growth. ironically, vegeta opts to follow in goku's footsteps as that kind of thinking does align with vegeta's philosophy on gaining strength in the past. meanwhile, goku does not change his approach despite failing to execute the hakai properly. if you think about it, had goku done the SSG-B switch technique that vegeta did, he would have likely progressed towards ultra instinct a bit faster considering how that technique's style is very much like how goku uses UI in conjunction with his forms in the recent arc. in the ToP goku sees his failure when he attempts the principle of the kaioken on blue and still loses to jiren, then learns his lesson from roshi's demonstration of mastery and 17's sacrifice and pulls out UI. Vegeta's anger at staying behind breaks his limit past his perfected blue and he evolves. theoretically goku could do the same, but as the arc aims to show us, that is not meant to be his style, all his years of martial arts under various teachers culminate into acquiring ultra instinct based on the principles he's been learning. of course vegeta's growth takes a bit longer to go over, as it spans his redemption in the moro arc and climax in the granolah arc. if you ask me, the manga is the superior product in terms of story and narrative. toyotaro knows what he's doing ahead of time and pays attention to the failings of the anime

My absolute favorite moment is right before Roshi's Faux-Ultra Instinct moment, when he tells Goku to think back on all the lessons from all the teachers he's had over the years, and it then shows a brief montage of each of them. Not only is it nostalgic, but it also works really well towards explaining just how Ultra Instinct works and how Goku is able to finally achieve that state. Comparatively, the anime just has Goku transform randomly while Jiran was kicking his ass.

@asianpersuasion49013 жыл бұрын
while the manga rushed the top arc, I appreciated how goku activated ui for the first time and it deactivated in an instant. he accomplished absolutely nothing, and I think that's good. he just tapped into a random power, he shouldn't be able to wield it so well so fast. he did basically master it the second time. also, the anime did a better job at the "mastery" of ui, but at the same time it never made sense that you have to be out of stamina/ki for it to activate. cause...i mean,you're completely tired, how do you become ridiculously more powerful when you're tired? so I also like how the anime doesn't require you to be in a drained state to achieve ui. You can use it whenever, if you have mastered it that is.
@jcast39atmsn3 жыл бұрын
@@asianpersuasion4901 what is implied about ui is that it is an extreme mastery of letting not only your body instinctively act on your own, but also that it releases the limits the body places on itself for safety to access massive power. In short not only are they thinking minimistically about basic offense or defense but all stages of the pure ui transformation essentially give a power boost by not naturally letting go of safety restraints. IRL for example the body has natural limiters that halt your body from say using muscle strength that would give you much stronger force but risk tearing apart your muscles or risk tearing tendon from bone and such strength is only dipped into when you are in a fight or flight response. Where I think the boost comes from in power is basically the ki version of the irl response. Goku dipped into his emergency energy reserves unconsciously rather than consciously with a greater degree with each stage of ui. And that would also explain the massive backlash each time had it, being near drained with his first and second usage and risking lethal usage horrible pain with the complete third usage.

I mean, how is the Anime's UI any different from a new Super Saiyan form? Much more character based and dramatic, and I'd rather have that even if the power scaling is somewhat dubious. The anime fight against Kefla is super cool, but you could have had Gohan do that stuff for a big moment too. Honestly, Ultra Instinct Roshi makes a lot of sense. It isn't like the Angel's version of Ultra Instinct, but it's a more "human" or "mortal" level of it, that could match up to stronger opponents. A subconscious movement of the body to evade harm, that is incredibly fast *because* the mind doesn't have to process it. Like, it's something that I myself have experienced before. If you chuck a ball at me, I consciously go over what I'm gonna do, move left or right. However, in one instance, a friend of mine kicked a sponge ball up next to me, accidentally kicking it towards my face and I only caught it out of the corner of my eye just as it was gonna hit me and in that split second (I didn't have time to consciously process it) my body kinda moved on its own and jerked my head back, dodging the ball. It's a feat that's possible in the real world, so why not in Dragon Ball, right?

In the Dragon Ball Super manga Gohan, Kale and Jiren were honestly written better than their DBS anime versions although I don't think Gohan in the DBS anime was terrible. Especially Kale, imo she was written far better in the manga than anime. She actually had a legit reason to transform, she already had basic combat experience instead of being timid before transforming in the anime and we understand why she is loyal to Caulifa. Kale in the manga in many ways mirrors Broly, they re both very loyal individuals. I honestly see Broly being loyal to Goku the same way Kale is to Caulifa in the future

Kale in the manga can hardly qualify as a character. She is basically just fusion fodder who promptly stops existing after she fuses with Caulifla. In the anime she has an actual character arc where she goes from being timid afraid and out of control in her Super Saiyan form to confident, capable of standing alongside Caulifla and fully in control (the manga version has no such thing). We may not have gotten to go in depth about her reasons for caring about Caulifla so much, the fact that she does is such a pivotal part of her character and drives her character arc that it can at least be forgiven that it has not been explained right away. Also, her reason for transforming in the anime is legitimate, its out of self loathing of her own weakness, while in the manga Cabba has to convince her that she should probably stop Caulifla from getting her ass beat just to save her pride (which is just a retread of Vegeta and Trunks).

Maybe the pacing of the U6 Saiyans’ powerups could have been handled better, but I thought their personalities were written just fine. Caulifla leads a street gang and is well in tune with her power. Kale is her protégé but feels unqualified. It took some time before she could willingly and knowingly access her real power. But it was easy to see what motivated all three characters. Cabba was fighting for his universe, Caulifla was excited about all the new transformations she could learn, and Kale had no idea how strong she really was. There was even some suspense over whether Goku could beat Kefla, and I have never been so happy to see Goku struggle to defeat a woman. So perhaps the real problem was when and how they got their powerups, and their relatively early exit.

Honestly, one of my favorite things in the manga was how they treated Trunks. In the anime they gave him all these weird out of nowhere power boosts, transformation, and techniques so he could keep up with Zamasu, Goku, and Vegeta; whereas the manga revealed that he was made an Apprentice Supreme Kai and could heal the group with the abilities said title granted him. In my opinion, this was way more grounded and in line with previously established lore.

Ehh, I disagree about that one, The Goku Black arc, was better in the manga version, but the one thing I much preferred about the anime, was Trunks. At least he did more, it felt like his arc and not just the Goku and Vegeta show, unlike like the manga. It sucks, because the main gripe people had with the anime, was Trunks being so powerful, made no sense, there was no explanation, but the manga gave us a reason, to why he got a big upgrade, by showing his training with the Kai's, yet he was just a punching bag, most of the time, just a sideline character. The manga had an opportunity, to really fix the anime's mistake there. Plus, he had a much better send off.

@@j04370859 I was never mad about Trunks being stronger than Goku in base form because the lore of Dragon Ball has made it clear that Saiyan Hybrids and Saiyans born without tails have far more potential, but the idea that he can keep up with God level opponents because he got angry is utter nonsense. Vegeta did something similar against Beerus but the difference there is that they made it abundantly clear that Vegeta was still no match. I have no gripes about another character sharing the spotlight, but it needs to make sense and with the way they did Trunks it made no sense. As for the send off, I don't like either of them; the show makes a big stink about how it is against the law of the gods to create time rings and Whis (who is supposed to be completely neutral under penalty of non-existence) just creates one for Trunks and Mai like it is no big deal and sends them off to another timeline where they will be additional copies of themselves. Some stick thin Saiyans that "achieved" SSJ2 because of an itchy back a day before the tournament had no business even raising a hand to the likes of Goku or Vegeta. Especially not Super Saiyan 2 or higher given how many years of hardship and training they had endured to that point in comparison to them.
@SabeNo-rh7mb3 жыл бұрын
I always did hate that about Kale and Caulifla. Likely never trained a day in their life, but because they just have so much talent, they now, after barely two days, have surpassed everyone post-Goku-Black Saga like it's nothing. Even Gohan still needed a full year to train in the time chamber to beat Cell. At least Broly was trained by Paragus his whole life before he came to earth. *At least Frieza still needed four months.*
@kaioken3013 жыл бұрын
@@SabeNo-rh7mb Exactly. Frieza's power boost was clearly bs, and still managed to be less offensive than a "tingly" back having some layabout string beans as strong as the multiverse's most powerful seasoned warriors. Even Goten and Trunks' bargain sale SSJ forms aren't doing that level of work. It was stated very clearly that Caulifla's little gang were just some thieves whose roughhousing was about as violent as a middle school boys locker room. Kale was the typical yandere shy girl in love with her senpai, masking it as simple admiration. And Cabba was clearly the Yamcha of U6. I knew they were overhyped when that little wimp was portrayed as somehow equal to Vegeta in terms of strength, forcing Vegeta to transform all the way to SSB. The U6 Saiyans weren't warriors by any stretch. I'd argue they were barely a league above the Tuffles in combat experience.

I know many won’t agree with this but one thing I liked about the manga was its fast pacing with the ToP. We don’t need to see what every character does or says in a tournament like this since most are there to fill the slots and that only the truly strong & wise will make the difference in it.

One benefit of the Manga and a lot of fan stories I've seen is that when they're not put under the same restrictions the anime does, the writing and choices of what a character does can be a LOT stronger since it's not focused purely on the stuff the anime wants. For example, I have a story which focuses on Gohan and Bergamo but Goku is in it to a limited capacity. The anime likely would've focused more on Goku not the other two, and dictate their actions based on what he does

It's more or less Trunks Full Powered SSJ2 with a little god ki aura mixed in since he was training with his father before his fight with Goku Black and Zamasu in the future. But seriously it would be cool if SSJ Rage was an official form to give something that is only attainable by Trunks and possibly other half-saiyans if it was a means to keep the saiyan hybrids up there with the full blooded Saiyans in terms of power.

About Roshi going ULTRA INSTINCT-iSH. I think if any human would do it... it would be Roshi. When Roshi is being a honest master, he is focussed and calm. When he lets his personality out... yea it's gone. Despite what you think of Roshi.. the guy has alot of wisdom and sometimes is reacting on his feet and letting his body move for him. (Jackie Chun for example) If anything.. he did DRUNKEN MASTER Style! Wich is...infact... kinda like ultra instinct. "Letting your body move in a way you would do if drunk, thus being unpredictable and going with the notions" So if really focussed.. I believe Roshi can achieve a "form" of ultra instinct. Not the KI of it obivously.. but the mental state of it and if Roshi could achieve a weaker form of Ultra instinct -sign- his power boost will be insignifcant in the end. Let's say Ultra instinct boost your power level by a thousand in mastered and like 200 times in it's weakest form. Roshi would have a power level of what? 600-900? We know he can't use Ki to fly still and hasn't had any power boosts as far as we know. So 200 times time 600 = 120.000? That's not even enough to keep up with the other humans. Even if it was a thousand time.. he would still be under a million (aka Freeza form 2) and we know Krillin and Tien can keep up with that! So even if we was in "mastered" "sign" or "weaker" and got a significant boost at that moment... he wouldn't be able to hit hard enough to most top fighters. Yes in the anime he beat some of em.. but mostly by his expirence and NOT overpowering them. As I see Roshi.. him having a "form" of ultra instinct fits well with him. Like perfectly well... But he just ain't the guy to keep it on!

@@Kentrc11 ik I'm just saying if you completely ignore the source material in favor of what's essentially fan fiction can you call yourself a fan don't get me wrong miltiverse is great and there are some other quality fan manga but the current arcs in the official mabga have gone back to the gritty z days in terms of tone and seriousness

Roshi having a type of ultra instinct is perfect, he’s a master with hundreds of years combat experience, even in the anime he does this to the bird guy so I think it fits
@ProjektTaku3 жыл бұрын
the GoD's fight should have definitely been in the anime.

Honestly, I'm all for giving the non-sayan characters more to do. I mean, it only makes sense that an ancient master of martial arts like Kame to be able to master ultra instinct, similarly, I feel like it'd only be logical for Krillin to learn to use god ki to some capacity, given that he used to be a monk and now that he knows it's actually a thing.

Master roshi was strong enough to blow up a Moon in dragonball. So I didn’t see a problem with roshi use ign some kind of UI.

Ah, yes! That was a cool cosplay. Lucio ended up being the character I was best at when I played that game.

I really wonder how much the Moro and Granolah Sagas will change when they are eventually adapted. I could be wrong, but I don't think that either of those two Sagas has made any reference to something Manga exclusive, so it could potentially be a direct 1-to-1 adaptation. If there are references to Manga exclusive things then those would have to be changed but other than that it could stay the same. Of course, the anime might always completely change it like the Goku Black Saga.
@rodimussupreme23293 жыл бұрын
They won’t be heavily changed because the anime isn’t ahead of the manga like it was for the first part of Super.

The manga is ahead this time, it won't be changed too much.
