It is very difficult to digest maps on ethnic differences all at one go. It would be easier for the viewer if you go continent by continent. Then later, compare two or at most three continents. Migrations over a short period of time like from UK/Europe to Australia/New Zealand do not have much significance.

@Broman Ok. But I really don't have the time or energy at the moment to go through the DNA in-depth with regard to the differences and commonalities/similarities between Greeks and Turks... If you would like to, that would be just peachy. In the meantime, I'm going to keep buffing up on my knowledge of various regions of the world, history, peoples and cultures, tribal names, connection to Biblical geneologies, etc.
@BenjaminGessel5 жыл бұрын
@Broman What you said... 😁 I kinda see more what he did with this... The main racial, or "human variation" related regions of the world are each designated by different colors-green of various shades for Africans, blue for Europeans (turquoise for Spanish/French/Italians), orange for Arabs, tan for Turks and Persians, etc., pink for East Indians, red for American Indians, yellow for Asians, khaki for Pacific Islanders and gray for "nobody lives here"... And then he gets more detailed with the color dep. on specific groups of people that are more common in those areas. So the Finns are dark blue and the Mormons are very light blue, etc. Yes, it just so happens that the Aegean Sea, Istanbul, etc. are at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Yes it just so happens that Greeks and Turks are very closely related genetically, obviously, etc. If I were making a map like this, I think I'd skip the colors and just go for photographs of people in those countries... If you go the color route, it's a good idea to consider what colors you are assigning to different regions and why, and yeah, agreed, you need to watch out for those blue meets tan spots, where people look very similar on both sides of the color line...
@BenjaminGessel5 жыл бұрын
@Broman Yep. We need like a gigantic National Geographic photos of peoples map... Imagine zooming in on different areas like the Stans of Central Asia, Polynesia, Britain, seeing the gradual changes as you move to neighboring areas, etc. That's what we need... Of course, I think this kind of map might cost a few dineros... And it will prob. be made by a whole group of people, not just one person. I have to give Masaman some credit for this map though, it still is pretty impressive...

The new model is impressive, but it seems that there are still somethings vague to you about the Middle East. Racial and ethnic affiliations in the Middle East are very complex. I will try to clarify somethings regarding ethnic, linguistic and tribal groups in Egypt. Basiclly the ethnic groups of Egypt:- -Egyptians (Arabic-speakers) : Fellahin and Copts -Arabs (Arabic-speakers) : Egypt's Arabs and Nubia's Arabs -Nubians (Nubian-speakers) : Mateeks, Fjak and Knuz -Bedouins (Arabic-speakers) : Sinai Bedouins and Sahil Bedouins -Domi gypsies (Domi-speakers) : Noar, Halab and Msaleeb -Baja (Bajan-speakers) -Siwis (Amazigh-speakers) -Turks (Arabic-speakers) -Greeks (Arabic-speakers) -Italians (Arabic-speakers) -Jabliah (Arabic-speakers) Brief information about the major groups:- -Egyptians are the majority of Egypt and the ruling ethnic group. Fellahin (Muslim Copts) and Copts are the core of the Egyptian group representing the indegous Egyptians. Fellahin and Copts are the actual ethnic Egyptians in addition to some Turks and Arabs who are culturally assimilated and Egyptianised but not racially. -Arabs are the actual Arabs who are both linguistically and racially Arab , and usually they are divided according to the regions they live in (Egypt or Nubia). That's why they define themselves as Egyptian Arabs or Nubian Arabs. -Nubians are indegous to Aswan province in south Egypt. They preserved their language and culture for centuries. And they are divided into Mateeks, Fjaks I wish that the comment is not stuck in the bottom of the comment section and that ypu could see it :)

I have downloaded the map and will treasure it till the next one comes. You are a champ! P.S. Many of us noticed that your classification of the ethnicities isn’t based on the currently accepted macro groups such as Indo European, sino Tibetan, afroasiátic, and so on. Hopefully you fix this next year, anyways good effort!

Vtron Most linguists and sociologists would include Persians, Turks, and North Indians as whites, and consider jews and arabs as the same racial group. But because we have such an annoyingly ignorant society, however, we must put politics and propaganda before reality. Obviously, Masaman did a stellar job with this map, but his classification on race and ethnicity is just plain incorrect from a genetic, linguistic , and historical point of view. Any geneticist with a background in anthropology would lecture you about how north indians and iranians are more closely related to europeans culturally and genetically, than to any other group on the planet.
@haokao94805 жыл бұрын
@@williamkrause5831 Only a minority of jews are racially semitic like the arabs today. While the Jewish religion and culture was kept alive in Europe, the people believing in it and practising it were eventually racially European (and Ethiopian and Turkic in the areas where it survived there.)

William Krause OF COURSE! I completely agree that Indoiranians are most closely related to Europeans, that is the whole point of the Indo European Family, I did find it odd that he didn’t classify them by macro family like afroasiátic, Indo European, and sino Tibetan. I think he just color coded it by region and that’s probably the confusion. But I agree!
@haokao94805 жыл бұрын
@Broman That is true, they weren't all from Europe - but why is there a difference between the Turks from your other comment and the Jews? By that I mean, both groups either left or were driven out of their original areas and surely mixed with local populations in the areas they arrived.

I'm very curious about my ethnic origins but I wouldn't do a DNA test. There's too many concerns with what they'll do with the data. Over and over again these companies have been exposed for privacy violations so I just can't do it. Looking at my phenotype I am mostly "white", dark blonde to light brown hair, light blue eyes, a pointy upturned nose, hooded eyes that can make me appear Asiatic, Oddly enough I tan pretty well and retain a tan for a long time so despite most of my phenotype appearing North European, my skin appears to be from Southern Europe. I've got my theories, however DNA tests are crap for people living in the UK. I'm going to say it, British is not an ethnicity. It's a mix of neolithic indigenous people who originally had dark skin, Celts, Romans and Roman slaves, Anglo Saxons, Vikings and Normans. Out of all those, I think I approximate a Viking in appearance and when I ask people, they say I look Scandinavian.

Very high regard for the effort, but this still needs work. Central Asia is so much more complex then to be put as a simple Turkic, multiple historic factors influenced it into several different groups rather then just one. Plus, that little blue area in southern Moldova, I suppose its connected to the blue of the Finnic group, its actually Gagauz people who are Turkic origin, ethnicly and linguisticly, so it should be similiar colour of Turks shown around Istanbul.

@@aethelmurray255 yeah, I understand your point. But being white varies from country to country, you know? I mean it's not that long ago that Italians and Irish people weren't considered white in the US; some eastern Europeans, especially Russians, Ukrainians, and Romanians can have an Asian looking face and still be considered whites in their countries and many others they go; also there is the case of the people from the middle east, who are genetically Caucasians but not considered whites in many countries in the West (in Latin America they are). These topics regarding backgrounds are tricky, maybe fair skinned mixed people are considered whites down in Chile, just like in many LA countries.

Good map Mason, but i think you forgot one group: Hispano-Celts from Galicia and Asturias in northwestern Spain and Portugal. Thought they don't speak a celtic language, they have celtic heritage in many ways, in their culture, traditions. They have heritage from pre-roman celts and Britain Celts who migrated there after Anglo-Saxon invasion in the early middle ages. Even they have a very distinct appearence from spanish people. Many of them are blonde or redhead with light eyes. They look more like Irish or welsh than spanish. I think you can do a video on them (Well, being argentinian, i am half galician, in Argentina most of hispanic argentinians have galician ancestry, mixed with italian) But anyway, what a nice map, you did it very better than the last one. Masaman, I admire your work. I myself am a huge devotee to DNA studies, anthropology and am fascinated by human history. However, I feel that sentence 'genetically speaking they have a huge amount of admixture from the native Celts, Roman Britons, and Norman invasions' tells me you don't really seem to know European races as well as you should in order to put such a complex map together. I sort of feel you are running before trying to walk. Please do not misunderstand my criticism for being rude as I do not intend to be rude to you. I only feel that you need to study European DNA in a different manner rather than basing everything based on your 'opinions' and other peoples opinions. Look at this study done by AncestryDNA www.ancestry.com/corporate/international/press-releases/DNA-of-the-nation-revealedand-were-not-as-British-as-we-think According to this study, a heavy bulk of the English genepool is largely Germanic. It is not debatable my friend, the proof is right there. In order for ancestry to obtain this information, they have used thousands of existing DNA samples to come out with the numbers. Lets tackle the native Celt issue head on. Masaman, we both know that Celtic groups have existed throughout Europe for a long time, it should come to no surprise to you that Celtic blood is very strong in the modern so called 'Celtic fringes' of Europe. You seem to paint Germany and many other European countries as 'Germanic countries' but yet there is a clear Celtic input in Central Europe which you fail to mention let alone include in this map. A 2007 study done on Germans concluded Germans were not very Germanic at all. Slavic/Hebrew/Celtic DNA was far more prominent as many Germanic tribesmen killed each other in wars and migration. According to the paper even Poland is more Germanic than Germany. naryore.eu/norico/45-prozent-der-deutschen-haben-genetisch-gesehen-keltische-wurzeln/ Roman Britons? Who are they because I don't exactly know who you are talking about? This was not a race Masaman. There are no ethnic Roman Britons. You are referring to Romanised Brythonic/Celtic people whom inhabited England prior to Germanic invaders, yet they were only culturally affected by Romans. Romans did not bring 'ethnic Romans' to the British Isles either. They had mercenaries from all over Europe doing their dirty work. A bulk of these mercenaries were Celtic/Germanic people who had taken the Roman coin and fought on behalf of Rome. Normans were mixed Franks/Gauls/Breton/Danes who went onto conquer England. They had a big effect on language and would shape the UK to become pretty much outward looking. However, genetically they only had DNA impact on the upper classes. I love your videos as I have a deep passion and love for genetics, but I think you need to refine some of these areas.
@MrChannel194 жыл бұрын
Mr. Masaman your efforts should be recognized world wide because the anxiety that most mixed heritage persons have within themselves, need to sense relief to see their own place in a world that is changing regardless of the political powers that would like to homogenize everyone in one group page. The old studies of genetic theories only sought to classify people in religious, political powers and looked to pigeon hole everyone into narrow perspectives. Your work has great value and perhaps you will get funding to work further and continue your perspectives and sensible understanding. People will be both scared and pleased with your work! Continue your work!

The only problem i have with this map is that you put some of the coastal parts as Swedish/Germanic. That is partly true as the area is indeed majority Swedish speaking but the majority of the people are *not* ethnically or culturally Swedish/Germanic. I am from Finland and my fathers family is from Pietarsaari in Pohjanmaa. The Swedish settlers that came from Sweden hundreds or even thousands of years ago have been mixing with the Finnish population alot over the years which has made the populations mostly blend into eachother tho the genes of Finns and other Scandinavian groups are very similiar due to close contact with eachother. Your content is great and i hope you keep doing your great work!
@virding2325 жыл бұрын
It's still a distinct group. The Finland Swedes may be mixed, but they are not Finnish. They're not fully Swedish either. They're their own group which is a mix between Finns and Swedes. But they're still culturally very much Swedish.
@eliasanas69775 жыл бұрын
@@virding232 Not really. This is very debatable but the towns with majority Swedish speakers are mostly like a completely normal Finnish town. Even tho some of the towns may be culturally closer to Sweden the map depicting is not too accurate.
