The samples in Drift Theory and Homage are inspired by the experimental vibes of the LA Beat scene and producers like Flying Lotus, Mndsgn, Samiyam, Dibia$e and all the greats form that scene that brought more adventurous sound design, more out-of-the box sounds to hip-hop.

I feel like the Beat Scene is the predecessor to lo-fi, but the lo-fi subgenre has watered it down a lot. And that's fine, it's a branching off from that sound, but I think the Beat Scene era is still understated in its importance. Anyway, man, you're pretty much the dopest on the youtube beat making circuit that I've seen. Really show how to make good music with these tools instead of simply using the tools.

P.s. If they made Maschine a full DAW I think I'd give it a try with the MK3 because of how much you can do on the controller itself without touching the computer.

I hear you, actually it’s one of the reasons I have so many unfinished Maschine tracks - sometimes I’m just too lazy to transfer them to Ableton to finish them.

Dope video as usual brother. Question, I'm runnin the S49 keyboard and the MK3 Mini (mixing in Logic Pro X). Is it even worth upgrading to the full MK3?

Thanks man! If you’re happy using the mouse and the keyboard to control Maschine software, then you’ll probably be fine with the Mikro. The full Maschine MK3’s advantage is that you can do everything from the controller, essentially like on a standalone machine, but use the computer as the brain. So it’s up to you whether you need that.

Yo Lowheat! As good as the NI expansions usually are, I feel the hip hop snares are so similar sounding in all of them. Have you noticed that?

I think there's only so far you can go with designing a snare drum that would be considered a good useable hip-hop snare. But I think they have a good variety, especially the MSX Audio ones and several other ones. I think Borough Chops and another one that was made by the same company had very similar sounding drums in general but other than these, no I haven't noticed that.
