Another fire episode, i thought i would wait until this week to comment as again IMO this episode and last weeks could have been merged so just again food for thought for season 2, Im really hoping next week is some sort of everyone is given the same sounds and samples you got a certain amount of time to drop a beat, really test the creativity of the producers that is what i wanna see, Everybody is still dropping some dope stylistic approaches to these challenges and i can see everyone is going to walk away with some influences from each other and its only gonna make you all stronger/harder producers all your futures are bright for sure, My fav's at the mo are Egomi, CK and Subtonic, Peace cya next week

The best way to get a mentor is to add value to them. When you find a suitable candidate, find a way to serve them so that they can see it worth their time to invest into you. Mentorship is a huge investment of time for the mentor so you can't just go up to anyone and ask. If you do it this way, you may not even have to ask.

subtonic mix had the most presence and i'll even give it the best balance of sounds within the mix, but BATEZ had the only mix you could have dropped vocals into with ease. it also was the cleanest. It could have had more bass but, his kicks we're slicing through the bottom end like a sword .. thats always lovely. batez and subtonic tie this round but they had the best mixes of the the whole group.
@SonicSupremeSGT35 жыл бұрын
Summary on this one: Subtonic did a BEASTLY mixing with layering bass to make it punchier and distortion, layering drums and putting in ghost notes with some Reverb and Delay on the snare while smoothing out the Toms. Again, Subtonic capitalized on his name in this challenge on becoming an engineer through sound manipulation. Willie T, he layered the kick drums, smoothed the piano with a little Reverb and did a little distortion on the Toms. Don't get me wrong, it was there, but some of it was cluttered due to saturation in the Toms, snare, hats and chimes. Batez, he smoothed out the drums, put more Reverb on the brass, some of the bass, a little distortion while smoothing out the Sub. I also noticed he mixed his in Mono while balancing out the snares and other drums. Classic Quincy Jones, III and Dr. Dre trick he did there. As for CK Jones, I'm highly impressed of how she manipulated her Sub and all, but on the other half, the drums in her mix had too much punch in it, which clashed with the brass and choir vocal sound effects. From my observation, she could have layered the brass in that mix and smoothed it out. But knowing how producers with Drum & Bass, EDM and Dubstep taste, there is a problem with the fact that they don't comprehend the secrets of brass, which Egomi made up for with EQ'ing, compression, some distortion, smooth ghost notes in the panning. Above all, DOPE! Shout-outs to Maschine Masters and the producers on this show. I'm loving it!

My critique was similar to J.... He was honest and fair with them if judgment. This was a good challenge. The last producer really made the beat his own. To me it probably was the best mix. I didn't like the snare at first but it grew on me... Other than that it was extremely solid.

Mixing is an artform I think J is looking for more than proper levels, he's looking for creativity. I have a great idea for a challange: produce a fire track WITHOUT using a damn 808 now that's a challange for ya ass lol.... So glad my material doesn't rely on 808 to pound or be funky...
@AChi__5 жыл бұрын
@Tony Walker I agree there too. However, I wish they'd do it slightly differently though. For me, I wish they get two random vinyl records. Give the beatmakers one record to individually go front to back and fish for their own sample(s) of choice, and respectively flip their sample(s) and individually make a sick beat out of their samples. And for the second vinyl record, J.Rhodes and crew should find a sample and give each of the beatmakers that sample to make their own beat by creatively flipping that sample. Judge both beats on their merits or score them based on an average for both beats. Such a competition forces the beatmakers to creatively bring their best, I imagine.
@AChi__5 жыл бұрын
Of course, it'd be great to also have the beatmakers make their beats from scratch, no sample, just creatively grind out something dope from scratch. That'd be sick to see too.
@AChi__5 жыл бұрын
@Tony Walker Not necessarily, due to the fact that they'll be competing against one another and will squarely have to try and outdo all the other beatmakers. Doing so will build some unforseen pressures on them to perform at their respective best and also outperform everyone else.
@AChi__5 жыл бұрын
@Tony Walker Also, them picking their own samples will almost be like an IT Challenge 2.0, because it puts them in a position to bring their best due to the lessening of the restrictions the are usually influenced by (for example, the subpac challenge). It'd let them let their nuts hang creatively 😂, so to speak.

Chick-fil-A Yea I see what you mean bro. For the instrumental Alone that’s dope for me but if this track was to go to an artist they’d most likely definitely recommend to lower the levels of the drums a bit. Most beats in today’s era though do focus on the drums being “BIG” thin drums make the instrumental sound outdated. That’s why I like hers the best her mix the drums are full
