Leather crafting doesn’t have to be intimidating! Here I’ll show you how easy it can be. It’s like magic. Making the “Teddy” Wallet. In this video I show you every step in the process, from a rolled leather hide to a beautiful finished wallet. Step by step!
Teddy Wallet:
1. The model clutches a teddy bear
2. “Teddy bear” was named after president Theodore Roosevelt
3. For more on the “Teddy bear” story - www.nps.gov/th....
A pure coincidence in this video? Maybe…
The opening speech was made by president Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd president). This wallet (the Teddy) is named after president Theodore Roosevelt (26th president). They were 5th cousins: Franklin’s wife, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, was Theodore's niece.

Made in the USA!! That's what we like to see on goods. Support American manufacturers, especially hand-crafted goods. It's great these skills are passed from one generation to the next and you often have families with generations learning the craft. I love Swiss watches and collect them, my favourite manufacturer is Rotary owned by a family of watchmakers for over 100 years.

Thanks, Adam! Yes, fibers in leather are similar to grains in wood. (I have carpentry and masonry backgrounds). So I wouldn’t sand against grain. With leather, I equate that to fibers.

My daily carry is a sightly taller (to accomodate half-folded bills) "Dufrane". It's the second wallet i made. The first was the actual "Dufrane". Both made from cheap Chinese veg-tan that i dyed navy and red. I've made many other designs of wallets now using higher end leathers, mostly small minimalist ones, but this one is always on hand.

Another great vid (as usual...) Apparently some out there don't get the flow of the bump jigs, but ever since I started using them, all is SO much faster, easier, and much more accurate... Also, did I see correctly in the vid that there is possibly a new smaller square on the way from Mascon/ZeeBee...??? (🤞)

All well said. Some don’t “get it”. And that’s ok. Some don’t “want to” get it. Because it goes against all the learning they’ve accumulated. Again, that’s ok. But when those who do it, “get it”, it simply clicks. An “ah ha” moment and it’s like magic. That’s all we want. To help and make it easier to get to the same end goal. Perfection. Rulers - good eye. We’ll keep everyone posted as we move closer to release dates. 2 more tools that will make your leather craft seem like magic.

Yup, broke yet another belt today (the buckle this time, leather was splitting anyways so was only a matter of time) 😒 $75 later my booty is covered literally and like the leather I got, but not the best for holster, sheath, comfort, and formality. Figured I better just learn some new things, mink oil ain’t making my life any better. I get a belt and have to punch holes in it to make it fit, they’re not getting cheaper, neither are boots, and my wallet is horrible, I.d. Got more expensive but made cheaper apparently cause mines in 3 pieces and I had to cut it out of my wallet, literally. Also use old scrap pieces of leather for sharpening and I’ve got a big 3-4 inch needle I assume is for leather, now I have to find a cow 😅. I’d be way way way better off just making it myself

20:25 incase anyone was wondering, you can use a regular hammer. I used to be a timber framer, so I use my old estwing 28oz.
@MasconLeather
@MasconLeather Жыл бұрын
100% wrong. I was a framer. And have 524 hammers. Never. Never. Never use a metal hammer on metal tools. Mushrooming is bad, and the hardness levels of tool metal and hammer metal are not friends.

@@MasconLeather for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I said you can use a hammer, never said you should. I'v got way more hammers then mauls or expendable income. Plus most old stitching chisels I find here (Britain) are mushroomed. 524 hammers; hell of a collection fam.

😆 Fair points. And yes, any heavy object (hammer) will work. So, you’re right. But I’ve also had a chunk of metal shoot off a log axe from hitting another axe (both heat treated metals) and lodge on my arm like a bullet. Keep on rolling !! And thanks for watching!!

@@MasconLeatheronce bit, twice shy. Fair enough. No worries man. I feel proper manufacturing is something that needs more promotion so I love your channel in that regard. Always a pleasure to tune in.

Thanks!!!! This one was delrin. Most others are brass. If you’re careful, the ink can work. Can’t promise the longevity of the ink, however
