for the people who don't understand the song, he's not talking about an indian tribe, he's talking about a girl who strayed away from her traditional value. it was a girl he cared about and but as he said in the song "Everywhere this little girl goes, She pick up another obstacle" in other words getting influence from the world and discarding her worth. It's kind of a tragic song of love and how values are being lost. I even think the line of him saying "I thought she was an Indian (Navajo)" is him being confused by her actions because is him saying, She was from a traditional background. Rather fascinating when you break down this song.

To explain this song as I understand it: He had a girl he had a crush on, was hooking up with. He thought she was the real deal (that’s the indian part, so no offense but a compliment) He then found out she only cares about money( that’s the simian, Benjamin part) In conclusion Indian is not used as a slur. But as something good. Still I understand the discomfort when hearing this song without a context. Love to all native Americans and such
