There IS something wrong when a cop acknowledges that there was NO crime committed, and then proceeds to take the guys Name and address to check him for warrants and to enter his name in the system... You don't just walk up to people on the street and run their names... It's unconstitutional and it's NOT their job. I wonder if this cop would have kept smiling if the rider had refused to ID? You need to know your rights and stop letting others step on them.
@Igotnewsockson4 ай бұрын
@@_Common_Logic_ you’re not making an apples to apples comparison here. While I agree an officer may not be legally authorized to stop someone at random and demand to see one’s personal identification, that isn’t the situation here. This officer is following up on a disturbance call initiated by the “old ladies”, and is interrogating a man matching the suspect’s description. Given that reality, your stated concerns are a moot point.
@_Common_Logic_4 ай бұрын
@@Igotnewsockson The trouble is that they are not my "concerns". Despite you finding my comparison "moot", it's the law. If I call the police and say you were speeding up and down the street, and they arrive as you are sitting in a lawn chair in the front yard, they can not demand ID. An official "call" is NOT grounds for identification. You don't need to ID when no criminal activity has been witnessed by the cop. You don't lose your rights on my word alone... In this case there wasn't even a crime, let alone a crime that you may have been involved in The cop can investigate... He can check with neighbors, check security video footage, etc to see if you or anyone has been speeding in the area... But you are NOT obligated to ID on the word of some random citizen until the cop can articulate reasonable suspicion that: 1). A crime HAS been committed 2). YOU are the person that partook in the crime. This new scenario is also "moot"... Why? In this video the cop ADMITTED there was no crime BEFORE IDing the guy!... He made it easy for any lawyer if this had escalated to a refusal and demand rather than this initial request which is where this would have likely gone if the biker had refused. *This isn't even a case where a possible crime was not "witnessed" by the cop or being responded to... There was literally NO CRIME! The biker might as well have been swinging in the public park while black. Karen's calling the police don't make that a crime. The police can respond but that's it. No crime/no ID. It's not my observation or opinion, it's the LAW.*

@@ryanmazerolle5534 Asking for "papers" or documents from law abiding citizens for no reason is Nazi sh*t Even in "Stop and ID states", laws that allow police to ask someone for their name state the officer needs to have reasonable suspicion that the person has committed, is committing, or is about to commit a crime. For example, Wisconsin Statute 968.24 states that a law enforcement officer can stop someone in a public place and ask for their name and address if they have reasonable suspicion that the person has committed a crime. Check whichever state laws you'd like and they are essentially the same. The problem HERE is that the cop literally TOLD the rider he didn't think it was a crime due to the bike being electric END OF OFFICIAL CONTACT... But he asked for identification AFTER he was told the bike was electric. He had NO GROUNDS to ID someone when he knew no crime was committed. As I stated earlier, the rider complied when asked, so he voluntarily gave up his rights but if he had denied, this might have gone sideways. It was a shady move by the cop.

You clowns have no clue how bad it is in a liberal state. The DOJ there gives them incentive to gang up on you for traffic stuff and then make a huge deal out of nothing to try to find any little charge that they can give you. I lived in Cali for my first 30 in life. Since we moved to Texas, ive seen them do things often that Cali hasnt even heard of. #1, they help motorists that are stuck on the road #2, they say hello very often with smiles. Mingling with the public #3, they rarely are hiding their eyes with sunglasses. #4, they're not as often creating speed traps and i dont see them hiding aeoind corners in twos. ... these are big deals to me. Giant difference out here, than in California. Ive been cussed out for speeding, and rarely have been talked to decently for traffic violations there. Here in TX, ive gotten tickets with manners & well wishes. Much more "civil". ... my actual experience.
