I never wanted MASH to end .. I still watch it today and it still makes me laugh..
@EdsterIII4 жыл бұрын
While I agree I wanted it to continue, it really had reached it's end. As Alan Alda and Mike Farrell said, there was little left they could do to have anymore growth. They had done such an amazing job with ALL the characters, Klinger, Radar, Father Mulchahy, Hawkeye, Margaret, B.J., and old Chuck Winchester...lol. Everyone got a chance to shine, and SHINE THEY DID!!!!! BEAUTIFULLY!! Ahh Klinger the HARIEST BROAD EVER, who went from bumbling boob clerk to a whiz bang clerk. The writers were amazing, but again they had done so many stories and hi-jinxs, the had little left. Sadly it was time to end it. BUT WHAT A WILD RIDE IT WAS. M*A*S*H.

Mr. Preece, your comment really hit home. When M*A*S*H first began in the early 70's I was a little boy. I started watching M*A*S*H as a teen. My Mom was diagnosed with emphysema. For years she slowly got sicker and sicker. The last four years she was bedridden. We used to watch movies, I'd go to the video store and rent a stack of movies. Also we watched M*A*S*H. The news @ 10pm, M*A*S*H @10:30pm, and the Odd Couple @ 11pm. During that time she ended up on a respirator 3 times. The last time was the end. It ripped me apart. Then 6 months later my Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. I went to a dark place. Life was such a harsh pain. I like you again HATED death. This show became a major part of my turn around. By that I mean I had bought the season sets and when I got depressed I'd watch Henry Blake dump soot in his face, or see Klinger pregnant. They made a comedy, but they NEVER EVER forgot to show the pain and misery death is and causes. They respected life. And they respected their audience. M*A*S*H is still my favorite show, my goto 📺TV📺show. I found a box set about 7 years ago. It wasn't cheap. About $150.00. But it has the original movie, the entire uncut series, the finale, and both reunion shows. Also a clipboard and a book. Right now I'm on season 10, my second binge this year. It always gives me a smile. Irony as they say is not lost. I was diagnosed with the same illness my Mother had. So I've been watching a bit more lately. God Bless you.🙏 I am sorry for your loss. People said to me, you knew your Mom was sick, so it had to be easier. NO death is NEVER easy. Stay strong and know she's always with you and watches over you everyday. Take care!

Comment Freely that’s the point he was playing a farm kid from Iowa in a show taking place during the 3 years Korean War went on although the show went on 11 years and Gary Burghoff left in 7th season and came back to film 2 part episode arc of Radar leaving the Mash unit to go home.

I go through the episodes every year, and they still remain fresh. There was always a period of adjustment when someone left the show, but each new cast member fit in like a glove. That said a lot about each new actor, but it said more about the other cast members who obviously wanted the new actor to succeed, so the show could be the best it could be. I don't know if a new show would be able to pull that off again, because times have changed and MASH was fortunate enough to have great chemistry among the actors and also some of the best writers in TV history. The setting of the show (war) gave them the option to be hilarious, or very serious about just how ugly war really is. What an incredible range of emotions, and it was always a good balance.
@slcRN19714 жыл бұрын
Think Civil : it was really nice to see that the new cast members fit in so well with the regulars. I became a big fan of Mike Farrell who played B.J. The actor brought so much to his role. Also really liked Harry Morgan as Potter, he portrayed a tough seasoned career military man who could be humorous with the best of them. It was great that I could watch re-runs as my working the 3pm -11:30pm shifts as a hospital RN had me missing these episodes frequently.

I have to say this....M*A*S*H was the best written, best performed, and had the most emotional swings of ANY SHOW EVER. It ran the spectrum of emotion. From comedic hi-jinxs to pranks, to extreme drama, and scenes that would break your heart or fill your heart with HOPE. Every actor was given the spotlight, every actor was given a chance to shine and EVERYONE OF THEM DID. The cast was the BEST group ever assembled. Even with the loss of characters throughout the run, they NEVER missed a beat. The departure of Henry Blake was one of those episodes that I spoke of. It was HILARIOUS. From the going away party......Henry took some bark off old number 2. To the troops saying goodbye, Klinger's "dress" was EPIC. Then the end, where Radar comes in and tells the team that Col. Blake's plane was shot down over the sea of Japan, it spun in, there were no survivors. You could see the raw emotion of EVERY ACTOR.I cried like a baby when I saw that. Those episodes originally aired when I was 2 or 3. The reruns gave me a chance to see this amazing show. Now I bought the DVD box set and I can re-live EVERY EPISODE, THE ENTIRE EPISODE. Binge watching M*A*S*H has become a HUGE TREAT. M*A*S*H truly is the greatest show ever made. PERIOD. THE END.!!

They are also together in the movie "With Six You Get Eggroll", with Brian Keith. They both played hippies in that movie. Both also appeared in The Andy Griffith Show, albeit in different episodes. Christopher also had a supporting role in Gomer Pyle, USMC. I think Jamie Farr is in a couple shows from Gomer Pyle, but I don't know if he and Mr. Christopher appeared in that show together.

It was All in the Family, MASH, MTM, Newhart then Carol Burnett. I know. In '73 I was a newlywed and rather than go out we'd either go to friends or friends would come over to watch Saturday night on CBS. At 10 we'd finally go out.

I agree with Gary you could not work with people for years without having a few disagreements. That is where respect and forgiveness come into play.

I still chuckle at the on the fly promotion of Radar to Corporal Captain. The modern humor just doesn’t seem to measure up these days and most comedy ideas have ALREADY been written and performed occasionally someone will dust off an old skit with a DIFFERENT twist. I own M*A*S*H on DVD no need to have BluRay Thanx for the episode length reminder 😀👍🏻

I want to thank the cast, the crew and their families for making this show possible. I also believe that the writers must have slept with a tablet next to their beds to capture those fabulous lines; this show truly twisted the English language on various occasions and put all the same types of words together. (Harry Carry, cash n carry, carry on, carry over, Cary Grant, etc. or "Get your business out of my nose".)

My sister took up medicine, joined the army to be part of a MUSH unit (Mobile Unarmed Surgical Hospital) because of the show. She had never missed an episode till that point.

My whole family gathered around the TV when MASH first aired on TV. We loved the show. We all cried - my mum, my dad, my brothers - when Henry was killed in a chopper crash on his way home (I still get choked up about it when I watch this episode on DVD). Hawkeye, Sherman Potter, Radar, BJ, Clinger, Trapper, Father Mulcahy, poor Henry, and Majors Hoolihan ... were all such real and likeable characters. Majors Burns and Winchester, Colonel Flag, Sid Freeman, etc were also terrific characters and so very well played. It felt like they were all part of our family. My favourite episode ... so hard to say, so many were brilliant. My top 2 off the top of my head were (1) when Haweye crashed the peace talks to try and stop the war and (2) when they organised a gathering / party for their family back home so they could all meet.

What makes MASH so touching is that these people are real people reacting in real ways during a dark and sad time. by the way i have seen the movie that series is based on and am still looking for the book the movie is baded off of.
