this is a bit odd, but with the string i use it usually is quite curly, so i straighten my string with a flat iron before i start my bracelet sometimes. this keeps the strings relatively untangled and when they do tangle, they are fairly easy to undo, no tight knots or anything. hope this helped!
@pearlofagirlnursery5 жыл бұрын
Rhea Patney untangle as you go, utilize your shoulders (toss some over your shoulder if they’re always ridiculously long like mine), work on a nice flat surface, untangle as you go, and separate sections you’re not using. It also may help to know that almost all knots made at the end of the string accidentally while working on the bracelet can be untangled by loosening whatever has bunched up and gently pulling out one string at a time. And last tip, high quality string (DMC) tangles less! I made the mistake of getting prism string at WalMart in a 120 pack and it was tangle central! I was making the fishbone chevron and I just gave up and made a keychain because I could not deal 🤦🏻♀️
@Steficake5 жыл бұрын
Same as everyone else... Untangle as you go... the knotted-looking bunches of string come apart pretty easily. BUT I definitely agree with @Pearl of a Girl Nursery, High quality threads, like DMC, don't seem to tangle or 'pill' as much. Example; I recently bought a thread storage box at Michael's which came filled with pre-rolled bobbins of blue colored embroidery floss. I also bought several pull-skeins of DMC floss. The comparison while working is like night and day. The unspecified material used in the boxed bobbins from Michael's is tangly and forms 'pills', which catch on each other, causing knots. While the 100% cotton (long-staple) used in the DMC has a nice sheen, stays smooth and untangled quite easily. For tangles, I usually grab the knotted-looking group of threads at the bracelet end, and slide it thru my thumb and fingertips then by the time I reach the end, it's pretty much untangled. Often, I don't even bother 'untangling' the threads for several knots, if working with the same thread segment. Then, pinch the group of threads and slide thru my fingers. IDK, it works for me. Luck!I

You could use just one color on one side but you'd have to 'hide' the end of that color inside the loop, add it to your bunch of strings at a point that you know is going to be covered by the loop. I've done it a few times before, it can be a bit tricky but it can be done :)

Sorry, but not quite right. You could have an even number of strings, but if they’re not split evenly across the middle, no good. For example, abba would work for a loop, but aabb would not. Abcddcba would work, abccddba would not.
@MashaKnots5 жыл бұрын
Good point actually, I realised that I forgot to mention that about a week after I posted this. But with most patterns, even if they're not split at the beginning, you can find a point where they are. So say its abccddba on row 1, it could become abcddcba on like row 12 once all the threads have moved. You could just start the pattern from there. But yeah, good point nonetheless, I wish I had included that
@aidangrey35025 жыл бұрын
@@MashaKnots oh! Another good point, that you can just manipulate order during loop-making and triangles (if you go there). At any rate... LOVE your work. Thinking hard about patreon ....
@jms86395 жыл бұрын
aabb would also work, you can fold colour a in the middle and pull colour b through the loop. Then pull it as far as it needs that b also is fold in the middle. There are now two loops, and each loop goes through the other loop. The colour you make the loop with has to make a knot on the place where a and b meet. I hope you can understand that 😅
@aidangrey35025 жыл бұрын
@@jms8639 If I understand correctly, that would not work for aabbccdd, which was what I meant. Aabb was just shorthand.
@jms86395 жыл бұрын
Yes, this option also doesn't work for everything, but you could do both a in the d and the b in the c. You can even put more than one string in such a loop. It works for all bracelets which have an even number of strings of each colour. Maybe another example to explain: Hold your hand in a horizontal line, then move your thumbs down so you see a U-shape lying on the side at each of your hands. Then move your right hand around 90°, so it's positioned like it would be if you were shaking hands. Move your hands together so that the parts between thumb and pointer finger meet each other. Look just at your thumbs an pointer fingers and imagine the ones of each hand would be a string. That is the position that I mean and the meeting point would have to be the middle of the loop of the bracelet. That is the way you can sort it different, you would only need an even number of each colour and you can make almost every combination. aabbccdd: 2×a>d, 2×b>c aabbcc: 2×a>c, b folded normally And you can put "more right hands in the left hand", so you put more U-loops in another (aa>b), but I wouldn't recommend that, because your bracelet-loop would be thicker on one side. Maybe now it's better to understand?
@skidusch5 жыл бұрын
Lovely video! 🥰 you can indeed make a loop if you happen to have one single string that wouldn’t fold in half (if that makes sense shfka). You can do a larkshead knot over all the threads with the single thread, one side of it being shorter than the other. Then you can just do your knots over it along with the other threads until you feel it’s secure, then very carefully cut the tail off!
@MashaKnots5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Won't the tail stick out though?
@skidusch5 жыл бұрын
Masha Knots that’s why I put the tail in with the other threads! I normally knot for most of the loop, then snip the rest of the tail off carefully (similar to how you would cut the strings for the back of alphas, if that makes sense?), then I finish the length of the loop, just so that in case the snipped thread pokes out, I can cover it up. Hopefully this makes sense to you! I’m very bad at explaining things haha
