This could also be an Allegory of many Leaders and the West combined I mean, Mario here is going around dressed like he's Saddam Hussein of Iraq, and he rules the lands as most Western Powers do. Matter of fact, he's using the workers to mine for Oil and that could be an allegory for how America fucked over the Middle East. My declaration here: Mario is America, Britain, Saddam Hussein, and Israel combined. Everything about them is how Mario does. His mistreatment of the Koopas is like how Israel has subjected the indigenous Palestinians into unresting humiliation as they have their rights stripped away day by day, Saddam Hussein for how he executed political prisoners, and America and Britain for the Oil. That's how I see it, at least.

I came up with a idea for what happened to Luigi during all of this: Luigi, Mario’s favorite sidekick, was kicked to the sidewalk after joining in a protest under the alias “Mr. L”. While his girlfriend, Daisy was assassinated in an attempt to shatter Luigi’s hopes completely. It’s unknown where he is now but reports say that he might’ve fled to Sarasaland to avoid a similar fate to Daisy.

The only clue to this being before Mario's punishment here is that he murdered Shadow who was introduced on a Dreamcast title, but after Tails' disappearance, they show Blaze and Silver with the "other sidekicks" characters introduced after the Dreamcast era. So Tails probably murdered Knuckles and Shadow got caught, and then after Tails' disappearance, Sonic was forced into a deal with Mario, survived the fallout of that deal, and then kept on keeping on. Dark.

I don't know about everything else, but I can honestly see Mario being a Godfather-like figure behind the scenes when it comes to marketing. Especially with Sega and Nintendo's intense past rivalry and Nintendo's...recent policies regarding things as small as re-uploading music, or fan-made romhacks. Like, he's still a pretty genuine guy, but he cares more about coins than he'd ever admit. That's his fatal flaw.
