As a kid that grew up poor and was able to go to McDonald's once maybe every two weeks it was magical. The playground in those days and Ronald McDonald himself seem to make my childhood great. Modern millennials managed to kill off everything that was great in my childhood due to their weakend emotional state. Kids and young adults these days will never know what a hard time was. Some people had to walk miles to even get to McDonald's. You also got your food fast in those days . Today they hurry you up during the ordering process and have no souls when you look into their eyes they just hold their hand out and say nothing and you give them your bank card. You are still in the Drive-Thru for 15 minutes. Back then if you were in the Drive-Thru for 90 seconds it was a problem. The crew members and workers have no customer service skills they just heard you in like cattle and say nothing. They aren't there to put the magic in McDonald's or give your children a good experience they just don't care anymore. They don't care how long you wait nor do they care if you come back.

But, my Mcdonald's isn't that bad. We don't get paid enough to go out of our way to make sure every customer's completely 200% satisfied, but every McDonald's employee hates having to remake food and dealing with angry customers, so we do always try to make things right the first time. From the assembly line to the runners, to the window, each person tries to do a quick heck to make sure everything is right. Pro tip, its not a mystery bag if you look inside the bag when you get it at the window.

Lets be real here, the removal of the kids playgrounds and the renovations of the restaurants to be more "sleek and modern" killed all of the place's appeal. My town had a McDonalds that had a huge playground and the whole dining area had wooden walls and old photographs of trains, and they had this little toy train on a set of tracks that ran around the walls way up by the ceiling, and it went through the entire building so if it was running you could still see it on the playground. They even had a birthday throne for kids parties with numbers on the chair that you could change to match how old you were

Once our new McDonald's was ready to go, a demolition crew set about tearing down our old McDonald's which had stood since, at least, the very early-1960s. The building had been expanded/renovated over the decades. As the demolition went on the crew finally got to the shell of the original building with its red and white tiles. So many kids in the 2000's really don't know what they are missing out of.....I remember McDonalds was THE place to have your birthday parties, before Chuck E Cheese came along, and it..was..FUN. Then there were the cartoons that were actually good cartoons that *entertained* and some had 'moral of the story' that were actual lessons that applied later in life, but of course as a kid you didn't realize it until you got older. But, the fact of the matter is...we NEED those things back that helped a kid BE a kid, especially in times of CONSTANT social media and gaming where you really don't interact with people anymore.

We have The Ronald McDonald House, here at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Unfortunately, it's currently out of service, due to COVID-19 restrictions. When they are open for operations, they allow families a place to stay, who travel long distances to bring their children to this hospital. They offer bedrooms, restrooms with showers, a laundry room, lockers, large living room section, and a kitchen area with tables and seating. They even have staff that prepare these families breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, when they're in service.

Eh, I never really had an opinion on him. Even as a child, I didn't love or hate him. But nowadays, I just see him as a fun character that was there to get kids to do to McDonald's and have some fun and eat. The game and play areas were always loads of fun. Though I don't really miss Ronald, I do think it's a shame that McDonald's has gone from a fun kid-friendly place to a very bland "modern" fast-food restaurant.
