I was attending Stark State & later Kent State (NE Ohio) from 2008-2013 the last time I went to Panera. I enjoyed going there to eat & study. My fav was the 1/2 sandwich & soup combo. It was reasonably priced and affordable for a college student. I haven't been there since 2013, but have seen the prices skyrocket. I've heard that their food isn't as good too. So they are in my retired restaurants/memory file now.

Agreed. In the beginning, Sizzler was a great steak chain. I worked for them in the 80's. But gradually, they cut quality to make more profit, mostly by leaving more fat when trimming their steaks. No one pays for steak fat - they want STEAK. I read the writing on the wall and got the hell out before it got really bad. They removed expensive items on the salad bar, and replaced them with hot, cheap items like pasta and meatballs. Shortly after that, Sizzler stores imploded into bankruptcy. I still miss their grilled lemon chicken.

I remember applying to Panera as a baker working the graveyard shift when they started opening locations in my city over 15yrs. ago. During the interview, the store manager gave me a tour of the kitchen, ans admitted all the bread & pastries came in frozen. I noticed that they didn't even have a hobart(commercial sized kitchen aid stand mizer). I politely stopped the manager, and withdrew my application. Even though frozen product would've made my job eaaier, I was there to improve & learn as a baker. I ended up finding a better paying job closer to my house. I just couldn't bring myself to work for a company who would cut corners like that.

Well, Panera can be added to a long list of Companies that have been devastated by a corporate takeover. I grew up in a family business, these big corporate chains don't conduct business the way my father conducted his business. I am not one who is easily hooked for trending and currently popular places. To me they rarely live up to their billing. I finally went to a Panera two years ago with my daughter. The broccoli soup was good, but what they tried to pass off as a grilled cheese sandwich was an abomination. Yet people do what they usually do; falling for the hype and trendiness. Years ago, I considered Panera Bread and Corner Bakery Cafe to be competitors on equal footing, both of them with a good number of locations in the Philadelphia area and an area I visited at least once a year, the Maryland suburbs of DC. These days, though, there is only one Corner Bakery Cafe left in the whole state of Maryland and very few left in the Philadelphia area. Several years ago, I was excited when a new Corner Bakery Cafe opened in Abington, PA,, almost exactly halfway between Panera locations in Willow Grove and Jenkintown/Baederwood. But it lasted less than 2 years. That location is now occupied by another bread-oriented chain, First Watch, but I don't consider that one to be a competitor to Panera because it has table service. As of April 23, there was still a Corner Bakery Cafe in Horsham, not far from the Willow Grove Panera Bread. I consider First Watch and Metro Diner to be competitors to each other. Both have table service, but First Watch is not open past mid-afternoon.

I agree they have gone downhill, and the ingredients have gotten worse. They try to make up for it by adding more salt. Same with not having bakers. I won't pay that kind of money for someone to bake frozen dough. I will go to a real bakery. It will get worse when they go public. Many public companies equal death to the company. So said. Oh well, everyone should find a local sandwich shop owned and operated by a local person and give them the business. Most of the time, mom and pop places have the best prices and quality of food. They rely on repeats and not on a corporate name.

Restaurants should simply put a table charge if you require the use of their electricity to charge your electronics while dining-in or to use their free wifi services you need to purchase a food order. Realize many customers do abuse these perks and remain multiple hours in the restaurant, often refusing to purchase even anything from drinks or food to keep their table. The 20 plus aged group often talk about respect but are often poor examples.

When it first came to our town it was good but quickly changed. Even though it's close to home in our nearby local shopping center we stopped going after being disappointed too many times. Haven't been for a long time, not since several years before the pandemic.

Haven't been to a Panera in years. Last time there the menu had changed and nothing looked appealing. Corner Bakery is still ok but also quickly disappearing. I guess the time has come and gone for casual dining.

After Panera changed their menu in April. It's downhill from there. Constantly messing up orders as well. I've opened every wrapper to verify all the time now before I leave.

This is going on market wide. So many of us prefer to cook at home using fresh ingredients without being overly charged while getting poor quality foods and reduced portion size. All these places have copy cat recipes on social media and always come out 10 times better than going out to these places.

They're getting rid of classic favorites, like the Napa Almond Chicken Salad Sandwich (there are people all over Facebook bitching about this one) and the Asian Sesame Salad with Chicken. These are two of my personal favorite Panera items and I haven't been back since they got rid of them. That's only two items gone. There's a whole list. They are literally alienating much of their customer base by getting rid of so many of their good products.

Panera's used to be known as the business office for many single employee entrepreneurs. Set up your laptop, buy one cup of coffee and stay all morning while on your phone.

not sympathetic to these people TBH because 10 years ago when Panera was good, we'd sometimes have to take the worse seat (single table near registers) when we had spend $30 while some fool held court at a nice table in the corner with their $2 purchase

My wife was a big fan of Panera to the point I would drive a lot farther to get it for her rather than have her settle for something fast and dirty. But then she had a few salads with old lettuce and that was the end of that.

Panera bought The St. Louis Bread Company in the late 90's. The quality of the food went way down. I can only imagine just how bad it is now. I hope they go under. Won't be missed.

Portions are minuscule. They have really gone down.

The problem is going out isn’t affordable anymore. Inflation has been going up so they buy less quality and frozen products and then their prices go up so basically you’re paying Walmart brand material for higher prices and more people are starting to see which is why they’re not going out anymore

When I first discovered Panera Bread around twenty-oh-five or twenty-oh-six, chocolate chip bagels were only a seasonal item - autumn or even just part of that season. I have been pleased to find it as an everyday item (unless it's sold out) for at least the past 15 years. But according to your video, they've now been discontinued in some locations. Oh no! Panera, please keep the chocolate chip bagels, at least in the Jenkintown/Baederwood, Willow Grove, and Bensalem locations near Philadelphia!

Yeah, I like chocolate chip bagels too especially when they are a little warm and the chocolate is a little soft. Yummy!

So, it isn’t just me? The soups are barely there…the salads have shrunk too! But the coffee was horrid long before Covid. Cumberland Farms has become my favorite or Wendy’s or Dunkin…but not Panera who’s drinks are sugar water at best.

Dunkin guy here, LOL. It's good as a standard, everyday coffee plus I use the app and get points. I like Dutch Bros a lot, but I would go broke buying coffee there. I usually buy gift cards at Dutch Bros during the holidays, and people like it very much.

They started dying with pizza and getting rid of most of the delicous sandwiches. Then they got rid of the actually tasty pastries and downgraded about everything. Most sanwiches are gone from the menu. It is pretty terrible. Used to be a favorite of mine. No more.

Not sure what the new owners were thinking. But increasing the prices while at the same time shrinking the servings? Do they think people are that dumb to keep coming back? Especially the food isn't that fantastic. People just go there for what used to be comfort and convenience. But now? Unless someone is buying I am not going there. I can make better soups and sandwiches thank you very much!
