If you tear the paper instead of cutting it then you eliminate the lined effect
@beckerabstracts7 жыл бұрын
I liked this. The only thing I would change is using white paint as the base coat. I would use gesso instead of white paint. It dries harder and you can easily texture the mask if desired. Thanks for posting this!

Didn't the mask start smelling bad after a few days? People say that paper mache made out of water and flour starts smelling bad.

+j.ariesx Salt the mix when it's ready, or lightly salt the final mask before it fully dries.
@anthonyroy83448 жыл бұрын
+j.ariesx I have created over 200 masks with this process and they didn't start to smell. The key is to let it dry thoroughly. This may take over a day. Remember to keep the mask in a well ventilated area or it will get moldy. In some cases, they get really moldy.

How many layers of papier-mâché are used on the BACK of the aluminum foil mold? Also, I'd like to wear the mask and eight layers seems too heavy. How much would you recommend for that?
@QueenBoadicea8 жыл бұрын
+QueenBoadicea I really need an answer to my questions. I'm making the mask but I'm not certain about these steps. Also, should I use newspaper for the strips on the back of the mask or paper towel?
@AlottaBoulchit8 жыл бұрын
+QueenBoadicea you could try making test masks and doing different layers (like 4 in front 2 in back or all paper towels or something ) to see which works for you before doing the final mask. I'd also suggest watching other tutorials because I've seen many different techniques used so you might become inspired and find an even better path. UltimatePaperMache and KlairedeLys have interesting videos. Good luck!

Instead of acrylic paint, can oil paint be used?
@anthonyroy83448 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Lanigan I guess oil paint would work. I never tried that.

It will take a whole lot longer to dry though
@TheDeenaPan2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use an oil based paint on this kind of craft due to the fact that oil takes much longer to dry and the painting process on paper mache if too heavy can moisten the paper mache extending the process as you will need it to dry again to keep the shape. Acrylic or water base paints work best as they dry quicker so as not to set on top of the mache wet. Oil base will take longer to dry and will sit on the paper mache longer making the mache moist and trying to dry again with the oil paint too. Just my experience.

Great video :) I do have a question though. Is this mask supposed to be worn? If yes, how do you make the holes for the eyes nose and mouth`? And can you use the same technique for the mold etc if you just wanted to make a mask for the upper half of the face? Thanks!
@ifergot9 жыл бұрын
+Anna K Just cut out holes in the aluminium stage and then wrap the paper in flour+water stage in the holes. Change paper strip size so you can apply it to the holes. Make sure the edges are wrapped good. Sorry an answer is so late, hopefully you figured a way. I'm researching on how to make a mask for halloween! :)
