So... the fused shadow was made to harness the power of the triforce? And broke pretty quickly once the triforce of wisdom left it. Maybe the fused shadow was meant to recombine a split triforce, as the Twili's ancestors knew they were unbalanced (too much wisdom, compared to the other two pieces)

Midna is definitely my favourite character of the entire series and she’s one of the reasons why twilight princess was my favourite Zelda game (until botw happened). I really want to see her again in another game but I doubt it’ll happen. Zelda needs more amazing side characters.

Jaspersamuel Midna and Groose are probably my favorite side characters. (Although ST and BotW Zeldas are pretty fantastic and sorta fill that Companion slot somewhat. KingK’s analysis of ST Zelda is fantastic, even though her game is...clunky.) I also really liked Irene from LBW. Her dialogue gets a bit canned for both Hyrule and Lorule since I tend to fast travel A LOT, but I genuinely miss her once she’s kidnapped, and find her dialogue hilarious. Plus, she kinda gives us insight into the Sages being genuinely homesick and stircrazy while they’re stuck in the Sacred Realm post-rescue until the end credits. (She’s basically Oracles Maple, but with some actual character development beyond being Link’s clumsy rival with an inferiority complex. Irene instead KNOWS she’s talented but still learning, and comes across as smug vs showboating. And unlike Maple, Irene actually has a good relationship with her grandmother/mentor, and is eager to get back to her studies after flying Link to wherever he’s demanding to go next. Which...yeah some of those places I could’ve walked instead to get that maimai or heartpiece but...yeah, I kinda earned her snark for that.)

Midna is a MAJOR character, and arguably TP is just as much her story as it is Link’s...but she isn’t the MC/Protagonist simply because the player plays as Link and the story still centers on Link’s Hero’s Journey.

I have wondered what a Twili like Midna's lifespan is, maybe they are like the Zora on an even more massive scale, but sadly I doubt that she'd even be alive. Unless, that is, time passes much more slowly in the Twilight Realm... or they really do live for thousands of years, which could mean we see Midna as an elderly queen... Also, I'd say that both Twilight and Majora's are on par for being the darkest, but they're dark in different ways.

As a child, playing this game for the first time, I sorta assumed that was the case ? Not that she used the triforces power later on and the fused shadow was weaker than presented but when she took Zeldas "essence" I truly did assume, that this meant she took her triforcepiece

When I played the game I assumed that Zelda had transferred the Triforce of Wisdom. Like that seemed to be obvious. It also explained why Zelda didn't turn into a spirit like other people when in the Twilight but then ultimately disappeared when she transferred it. (The only other person shown to not turn into a spirit in the Twight is Link who appears to have the Triforce of Courage.)

@@SombreroPharoah At the end of that cutscene, on Hyrule Field when the barrier goes up around the castle, Midna starts working herself up to get angry--as she has been a bitter, grudge-carrying character, with a lot of anger toward Zant and toward the light and its denizens, even being a little bitingly sarcastic the first time she meets Zelda--but then as she makes a fist, she looks at that same hand, and gets somber instead. The bit about the Triforce piece protecting her in the Light, just as Ganondorf's invested power protected Zant, and as Link's protected him from twilight... it was *barely* subtext in that game.

jorge oquendo It’s heavily implied that the Twili are decendents of both the Sheikah and Gerudo. They have the Sheikah’s Magic&Technology but the Gerudo’s physical appearance, or mixed genes for their eyecolor. The Gerudo are also driven out of the desert, while the “Interlopers” sound more like a Yiga coup. (And the loyal Sheikah were...basically left to rot in a ghetto by RoyalDecree with false hope (yes Link came, but they’re extinct now...)) Although Telma, Renaldo and his daughter, and the fortune teller have Sheikah and/or Gerudo characteristics and cultural symbols, it seems like they’re descended from ones that intermarried with Hylians (or were perhaps sheltered by the Gorons during the Purges post OoT...which that right there? THAT would be enough for a Hero to turn into a Shade in death out of guilt, unable to move on until a successor healed the damage he accidentally ignited) Basically...you *really* don’t have to try hard at all to see Hylian Racism with Shad admitting to be Elitist and Ashei literally wearing the corpse of a sapient race as a fur coat

As far as “debunked”, ah, NO. No it’s not, that meta’s also alive and well, and the games are self-contained. They only occationally reference other games, but the “timelines” are complete random bullshit that got yanked out of Nintendo’s ass to try and get the fans to stop whining about not knowing the “order”...as...the games quite literally keep on as they’ve always done and often flatout contradict eachother. Zelda probably also assumed that Midna would be smart enough to realize she was also given the triforce, but Midna was so focused on the powers of her Twili that it never occured to her. Heck, I'd argue the Fused Shadow could amplify the power of the Triforce and that's why the Goddesses intervened. Amplifying and exerting more direct control over the Triforce would indeed be a serious threat to everyone.

You can go further with this theory in the ending. We only see Midna again after Ganondorf has been killed, the Triforce of Power visibly fading from his hand, and Midna is shown continuing to survive in the restored Light Realm, outside of a building. The Triforce Pieces go to whoever values and embodies their respective attributes most... so without Ganondorf, it's quite likely that piece of the Triforce, the Power she was chasing all game, went to Midna herself.

Midna holding the triforce of wisdom to be able to withstand the Light makes complete sense. Also...it’s heavily implied that the triforce for Light Dwellers transforms them into Divine Beasts instead of shadow demons or spirits. Which...Zelda doesn’t take on a Beast Form in the Twilight, and then her body randomly turns up at the end of the game? So, maybe GanonZant pulled a SpiritTracks and separated Zelda’s soul from her body and just chose not to try taking Zelda’s piece. Ganondorf also didn’t exactly have any reason to possess Zelda until the BossRush, either. Which, that’d make Zelda and Ganondorf both having Triforce Ghost Forms more or less that are essentially carried by their pieces. And after Zelda’s Soul returns to her body, Midna’s still fine which isn’t anything to do with the Fused Shadows (especially since Ganondorf later destroys them, and Midna’s seen afterward in her true form), which probably has more to do with the time of day and storm clouds? But...maybe not. Midna’s completely fine when she returns to the Twilight Realm for good...when it’s High Noon in Full Sun in a reflective desert. Yeahhh...TP still has some major plotholes tbh. - - - - ...I’m still salty about Zelda’s “tactical surrender” as the plot shows that it literally *didn’t* save anyone as Rutella’s still murdered with the Zora Mostly Dead, Kakariko’s completely ravaged, if Impaz had anyone living in her village they’re dead too, Ordon Kids&Ilia kidnapped and abandoned for giggles, the Fused Shadows acting up (evidenced by the Gorons, possibly the bokoblins leaving the Forest Temple and capturing the monkeys? As idk Eat Monkeys Not Us to the massive dekubaba?), and Castle Town suffering a sudden and severe drought with their only drinking water being imported from hotsprings in another province Which, yeah I’d probably fall into a depression, too, after screwing up *that badly* BUT...Zelda didn’t even try. It’s heavily hinted (and supported by this video) that Zelda was already a fully realized Triforce Wielder and Mage yet...she holed up in her thrownroom despite being a powerhouse. At the very least (supported by her Literally Summoning a Pocket Dimension) she could have put up a Barrier around CastleTown and buckled down for a Seige until the Triforce of Courage Wielder arrived to tip the balance out of a stalemate-she would’ve at least saved Someone. And she at least had enough forewarning to have a pretty sizable force inside her throne room. Which...IF Zant kept his side of the Deal and left Greater Hyrule alone if Zelda surrendered and allowed her body&soul to be separated, then it might be Tactical. Buuut...again, no one was saved and actually suffered the same or worse fates to outright dying in battle, and she actually had the ability to DO something. ...because...remember Midna’s salt both in that initial meeting and during Bossroom Calms? She’s pretty frustrated with Zelda being born to leadership but...not having the experience to Actually Lead.

There is just a small hole in the theory that I would like to point out. After Ganondorf is killed and Zelda's essense(a.k.a. her soul and triforce) is given back to her, Midna/Twili Midna are still able to survive in the light.

Twilight Princess was the first ever Zelda game I’ve ever played, and completed, and I don’t regret it The plot, the story, the unique characters, the unique aspect of turning into a freaking WOLF. This is was an awesome theory! Makes me wish I was able to play Twilight Princess! I really hope they release a remake on the Switch. Speaking of theories, a friend of mine and I had a discussion that even though the Triforce was created by the goddesses, only Link, Zelda and Ganondorf were given each piece. And since Ganondorf was evil and abused the Triforce of Power, people assume that part of the Triforce is inheriently evil. But is it really? I mean, Din is the Goddess of Power, but she wasn't evil. Do you think maybe...just maybe...that the Triforce of Power wasn't a gift...but was stolen by Ganondorf or even Demise? If that's the case, could it be possible that someone can be given the Triforce of Power, but they have good intentions?

It was not hinted or suggested. Ganondorf DID stole the Triforce piece from the Sacred Realm. This is stated very clearly in Ocarina of Time. Of course his intetion was to stole the whole relic, but since he did't had a balanced heart he kept only the piece that matched with the virtue he most believed on (Power). But in the end, yea.. Ganondorf just took his own piece by force. Differently from Zelda and Link, who were chosen by the Goddesses (or destiny, or the Triforce itself).

I think midna 1v1's ganon to force him out of his "god mode" form of him being that giant flaming head, into him taking his human form to fight link/zelda. in a way, severing his connection to the twilight realm that he claims helped him regain his strength helped making his final defeat even possible.

I don't think a pyramidal barrier is at all emblematic of Triforce - Magic. We've seen a pyramidal barrier used twice elsewhere in the series, to my knowledge. In the FSA, the barrier set around Ganon and the Four Sword is pyramidal in shape but was made by the Seven Maidens. We also see a pyramidal barrier around Ganon in UNOFFICIAL art for the Imprisoning War of LttP made by the Seven Sages. Let's also not neglect the fact that the barrier in TP clearly isn't pyramidal, it's a 6 sided figure. I don't know what that would be called, but it's not a pyramid. Also there's no support to your claims that the Fused Shadows was used to harness the Triforce. It just as likely was some weapon of mass destruction that gave the Interlopers tremendous edge in their war for the Triforce. I certainly see it as very possible Midna was given the Triforce of Wisdom as we never see it separate from Zelda upon death like as we've seen it done to Ganon, though Ganon was reduced to ash. I don't see how a pile of ash could contain a Triforce piece anyhow without fragmenting it (which clearly doesn't happen). Zelda still had a body after all. The Triforce easily could have rested inside her. Though it would be strange that Ganondorf, who clearly was able to totally control and warp Zelda, wouldn't have taken her Triforce piece. I think this point alone supports the idea that Midna really did inherit the fragment. EDIT: I did find another piece of art for Link to the Past depicting the Seven Sages creating a pyramidal barrier, this time it WAS canon! Still this would seem to imply it's a Sagely/Maiden kind of magic.

I first played the original legend of Zelda when I was 12 years old. I'm currently 47. I played all the Zelda games with the exception of the small ones that were like on the DS or game boy. I always thought that Lanaryu was the one who saved Midna and Link before Zant could kill them. They were warped in front of the castle but since it was a light spirit it was poisoinous to Midna.

An extra point to the theory is the Triforce of Courage is the reason Link is turned into a Wolf instead of a spirit in the Twilight blanketed Hyrule, so the Triforce of Wisdom performing the opposite effect on Midna makes sense.

I had already assumed that the Triforce of Wisdom was what protected Midna and that Zelda's soul simply rejuvenated Midna's body. What I DIDN'T assume was that the Triforce of Wisdom was why she was able to brutally destroy Zant and shatter Ganondorf's barrier. That was some serious thought provoking stuff you brought up. Small addendum: Zant did execute Queen Rutella of the Zora people. I personally think Zant and Midna's abilities to traverse the realm of light come from being infused with Zelda and Ganondorf's powers, but if simply taking the essence of a light dweller was all they needed to do so, Zant did have at least one confirmed kill.

One minor issue with the notion that Midna (and possibly Zant's) immunity to repercussions of being in the Light Realm being derived solely from protection from Triforce wielders is that, in the game's ending, Midna in her true form is shown in the light completely fine after she had returned Zelda's essence beforehand - and is still fine some time afterwards at the Arbiter's Grounds. It might have something to do with her being a member of the Twili Royal Family giving her perks that Zant stripped from her when he cursed her.

He puppets her body for the Light Force which yet courses through her veins, a la Minish Cap and Spirit Tracks. Perhaps it's what let him put up the barrier, as the sage's seal in Link to the Past's artwork seems to be the direct inspiration for which, also done through amplified Light Force.

I noticed that the Zelda fandom just grew ten tons thanks to Breath of the Wild, too. I even told my friends that; "When some people think of Guardians, they think of spider bois, but when I think of them, it's something much more traumatic." Referring to Skyward Sword. It makes me a little sad, though, knowing that there are a lot of other amazing, beautifully made Zelda games out there, and probably half of us don't even know their beauty.

Another piece of evidence towards Midna temporarily holding and wielding the Triforce of Wisdom is that, while she breaks the barrier Ganondorf put around Hyrule Castle, the barrier didn't appear until after Zelda was gone. Zelda's very presence in the castle was keeping Ganondorf from sealing it off and it's Midna, after Zelda's disappearance and very possibly wielding the Triforce of Wisdom without knowing it, who breaks that seal.

It's always confused me that Zelda's body disappears when she transfers her soul, yet without mention of how or why they just somehow know her body does still exist and Ganondorf has it, so they must go save her. Never got that.
