This is a really big harmonium, pretty close to the size of a small pipe organ, and it looks like it was pretty expensive. What would it've cost back in the day, compared to a vaguely similar pipe organ? Was it a matter of preference for people to get it, or was it a matter of price?

What do the two missing toe tabs do?

Jacob Moorman in this particular instrument two additional pedal stops are being prepared for to augment the factory 16’ open diapason and 16’ Bourdon. Although the additional stops are not factory options from Aeolian, the reeds and chest are sourced from an orchestrelle and of the 8’ and 4’ pitch variety to allow for a more distinctive pedal organ. Generally you need to use coupling to get a definitive pedal part on these machines.

It is in a private residence. The organ is currently in storage in Albany. The video is about 10 years old.

Why have dummy pipes and not utilize real flue pipes?

I guess it is technically possible. But the chests in a vocalion are vertical facing the player with mutes on the outlet of the free reed qualifying tubes. Not sliders. You could tube it I guess. Additionally you’d only have those few pipes, to extend the rank you’d need extra space and compact size and portability are a key feature of the Vocalion. Believe it or not the entire thing is on casters.

It doesn't have real flue pipes because it is a reed organ, not a pipe organ. The "dummy" pipes are just for show, like they are on some pipe organs.

This is far superior to the Rushworth & Dreaper Apollo Which is crude & primitive by comparison.
