Ok here goes… I’m 74 always loved banjo music… I’ve flown airplanes from Piper Cubs to jets… I’ve been a teacher a sailor and a business owner… I played saxophone in high school band… can I learn to play a banjo in the remaining 25+ years of my life 🤔

Hello Charlie Park, I am 62 myself.. I am just learning for six weeks that I have had my first banjo.. I am into clawhammer style banjo 🪕 open back on a Recording King OT25. This is a great sounding banjo, been improving some already and I am having a blast. Keep up with practicing.. I am over here learning chords.. My right hand and left is really starting to pickup on the muscle memory.. Later on, after I get the clawhammer banjo down, I do want to learn two finger & three finger.. Have a great evening. God bless you...

I used to play bass and guitar with a focus on blending the blues with death metal into my own style and sound. But, after ten years of trying to start a band and meeting the type of people who flood the live play scene i decided to put it down and sell all my equipment. It's been about five years since then. My soul aches to play music again. The banjo seems like a good way to make myself an outlier, a way to hone my old skill with no pressure from the more mainstream people this time. Starting to get that old fire again when i think about it. I want to thank you sir for giving me something to bounce off of and showing me a few tricks. Happy trails

Been playing guitar for 25 years. Just got a banjo today. The most frustrating part is getting used to the 5th string that isn't the entire length of the neck. I can't get my picking hand and fret hand to play/strum the same string if that makes sense

Hello Mason, can I use these chords while practicing clawhammer style. Thankyou from brother Harvey 😊✝️🇺🇸🤠 That was probably a dumb question ❓

Thanks Mason for the lesson. As an adult beginner, it is great seeing young people interested in Bluegrass and especially the banjo. I found out about your channel from Jim Pankey, another great teacher here on KZbin. Keep up the videos, they all help and practice and repetition are key for me.

I can't think of more frequently used chords in a major key. Personally if I was a begginer, after mastering those chords, I would do the (partial) A minor, as well as (partial) F major The A minor is used a lot in the slower tunes, like "you ain't goin nowhere" and "Sally Ann" and F opens the mixolydian world, like Old Joe Clark

Thank you for video lesson. I am just getting started learning to play, and I'm trying to practice with finger picks. When you do the pinch pattern is that using finger picks? It seems a little awkward.

Great! I feel like left hand position will also be a great topic for a video tutorial as beginners tend to "squeeze" the neck too much but complain about not being able to apply pressure on the strings otherwise. Where the thumb goes, where the neck rests while we apply pressure, how to stretch fingers to reach chords such as D...
@MasonCroneMusic Жыл бұрын
Good idea, I'll think about it. I feel like most of that should be pretty intuitive though. 🙂
