How do I apply this info to a real life scenario? I have my 8' masonry wall with bonding beam on top, grouted cell with vertical reinforcement every 48", fixed at the base and a precast lintel at top of every window and door? Do I obtain my moment from the reactions when the Load Combinations are applied?

Can you make a video about reinforcement concrete design, detailing,... following Eurocode? Thank you. Keep up your good work Mat ^^.
@kolavithonduraski50314 жыл бұрын
😆🏗... they don't use eurocode there... he needs to learn it... so its a a lot of effort for him. and in the practical work it is another type of designing than it is by hand when you are a student... so...learn it on your own my friend😆👍
@KJKP3 жыл бұрын
“They usually fill these up with grout.” They ALWAYS fill cells containing reinforcement steel. Without grout, the tensile forces will not transfer to the steel. I say this because I once talked with an inspector in Georgia... went out to a homeowner complaint, his brick wall was noisy in heavy wind... He contacted the builder, who said, “That’s just the steel banging around when the wall moves.” Inspector: “Shouldn’t do that. The grout prevents it.” Builder: “Grout?” *** When you have vertical bars, you’ll have horizontal bars... and you often end up with a fully grouted wall, design controlled by seismic.

Quick question: I'm still working on my PhD, and next semester I have the opportunity to take either a graduate level foundations course or a undergraduate level masonry course, which will probably be my last opportunity to take either. I'm definitely leaning toward the foundations course since I feel I will learn principles there that will be helpful when thinking about structures, but a friend of mine who graduated mentioned that the masonry course is helpful for learning about a lot of basics in terms of masonry detailing. Any thoughts? Actually, a second question. In my state, you're allowed to take the PE exam prior to getting the necessary work experience needed to actually be licensed. So a friend of mine has been trying to convince me to take the exam while I am still getting my PhD, studying bit by bit while I'm still in school and borrowing his codes before they update the test to use the newest batch of codes. What do you think?
@martjohnson23263 жыл бұрын
Hey Mat, thanks for sharing. In practical world, are we allowed to use full capacity of fm value without special inspection? Correct me if I am wrong, there is a masonry/building code stating that if special inspection required then we are allowed to use the full capacity of fm value. If special inspection is not required then we are only allowed to use 50% of the capacity of fm value in our design.
