Hey dude! couple years ago I laboured for a stonemason. He said he'd give me an apprenticeship if I went to school. Watching your videos helped me get my speed and inspired me to continue on when money got tight. I ended up getting a scholarship during the second half of the year and that took me through till the end. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks! Working now making great money here in Canada and hope to travel a bit after the apprenticeship to see how it's done in other parts of the world. Cheers!

interesting videos tim.whats the purpose of the timber beams between the block work ?i see your useing them as profiles as you build but they look like there going to be left in place after the block work is finished.any chance of you putting up a video of you laying brick half bond to the line useing the pick and dip method.

It looks like a pole barn and the block is only going up to interior grade as a retaining wall between posts.

I know this comment is almost a year old, but here goes; it's probably going to be a Shop or Metal type building. This block is the Footing, the wood posts you see will hold the lathe to for attaching the metal wall. After he gets the block up to grade, the fill gravel will be leveled out to below the top of the block (however thick the concrete slab will be). If dirt floor then the dirt/gravel will be level with top of footing. This block Footing goes below grade a bit and will keep rain water from washing the gravel out from under your wall/slab.
@tico51268 жыл бұрын
+TheCabinetmaster pretty much. Its an interior retaining wall for a shop.

@tico512611 ай бұрын
Yes , with a good footing and plenty of re-bar and grout . Drystone wall would be easier
@benjaminpalmer88498 жыл бұрын
When spreading the bed closest to you a great method is actually loading up the bottom of the trowel the. you don't have to twist it in your hand
@tico51268 жыл бұрын
That works well when there is re-bar in the way or if the line is on the backside.

The line is hung on the side of the block that you plumb. ,so typically you are laying over the line. It's been done the same way for thousands of years. ,,a lazy boot always wants to change things up.
@tico512610 жыл бұрын
If your scaffold is set up on the inside of a building it may be best to have the line on the outside so it goes from outside corner to outside corner. Unless maybe the inside is the finished wall, however, its's still crucial to lean over and plumb the outside corner.

learn how to spread mortar you won't have to go to the tub a million times. YOu should spread three CMU on one side with one trowel full.
@tico512610 жыл бұрын
Not with that sand I was given to use. The mortar was very sticky, and didn't hold block up to well. You'd break your wrist trying to get that paste off your trowel. Troll.
@PaddleDogC510 жыл бұрын
you didn't spread much mortar in height so I say it didn't have much problem holding up the CMU so it was not like Spackle. Sorry I will stick with my comment on your ability to spread mortar. When a bricklayer spreads mortar it is neat and not left to hang roughly like your's did. . .All the tapping and scraping is a waste of time for you also. You went to the board 14 times for seven CMU. You should have been there 7 times or less. That is spreading even two block long on average which can be done with an 9,5" trowel. With all the scraping you did you still left bulges in the mortar joints not the end of the world but hey if your making a vid make it your best, You have a bit of a swing so there is hope for ya,
