The MASP Renner project features a pair of artists and fashion designers who have been invited by MASP to create collaborative artworks for the museum’s collection. The initiative aims to expand the MASP Fashion Collection, which was incorporated in the 1970s and contains the collections developed by Rhodia - a company that manufactured textiles at the time - in the previous decade.
The first season of MASP Renner took place between 2018 and 2019, co-curated by Patricia Carta, fashion assistant curator at MASP from 2015-2018, and Adriano Pedrosa, artistic director, with the curatorial assistance of Olivia Ardui. Nine pairs were invited, including Alexandre da Cunha and Reinaldo Lourenço; Avaf and Amapô; Beatriz Milhazes and Andrea Marques; Caetano de Almeida and Alexandre Herchcovitch; Daniel Senise and Gilda Midani; Ibã Huni Kuin and Ronaldo Fraga; Iran do Espírito Santo and Marta do Espírito Santo; Leda Catunda and Marcelo Sommer; Sandra Cinto and Lucas Magalhães. The collaborations produced 26 looks in total. In this video - a documentary that records the creative process behind the project’s first season - artists, stylists and the curator introduce their process of creation and research, assess the limitations and links between art and fashion and discuss the importance of fashion in the museum.
The second season of MASP Renner was curated by fashion assistant curator Lilian Pacce during 2019-20. The third season, currently being developed, is curated by assistant curator Hanayrá Negreiros.
