It's worth noting that not all of the facial markings are colonial. For example, Garrus and Vetra are both from Palaven, yet they still have markings. "Turian Military" Redundant.
@aseroxd5 жыл бұрын
Somehow it made me think of this conversation from Star Trek DS9: GARAK: I can't believe that I'm having lunch with a man who thinks The Never-Ending Sacrifice is dull. BASHIR: I just thought the story got a little redundant after a while. I mean the author's supposed to be chronicling seven generations of a single family, but he tells the same story over and over again. All of his characters lead selfless lives of duty to the state, grow old and die. Then the next generation comes along and does it all over again. GARAK: But that's exactly the point, Doctor. The repetitive epic is the most elegant form of Cardassian literature, and The Never-Ending Sacrifice is it's greatest achievement. BASHIR: None of his characters ever really come alive, and there's more to life than duty to the state. GARAK: A typical Federation viewpoint if ever I heard one.

@shtyepaancz96427 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I actually have an interesting fact for you. :) One thing that was always puzzling me when I read/played the Witcher was the complete cultural mish-mash in the Nordling names. I mean you could have Vladimir, Fabio, Ragnar and Franklin actually living in the same village. But after a bit of searching, I found this really old Czech interview with A. Sapkowski (mdia0128.www3.50megs.com/Sapek/iview01.htm#s) where he said that it is, because in his original idea the world of the Witcher was post catastrophic (other races were mutants) and remaining human population had only vague memory of their past and languages. And because of that he mixes the Slavic, Nordic or German name origin. Personally I don’t like it. I would prefer for the Northern Kingdoms to be more homogenous. Like for example only Slavic because in that case they would be a realistic nation akin to Nilfgaard than that cultural mess.

It's Species, not races, even Bioware do it wrong, but it's not a reason. Secondly, Human food may or may not be toxic to turians, depends on each ingredients, as for some AA, both forms are edible by humans (thoug with different tastes/uses), I guess it's the same for turians.
@dreamingflurry27297 жыл бұрын
Prowess? I don't know about that, the Turians have the numbers (they have mandatory military service - so if you aren't infirm and are a Turian it's likely that you've spent time in the military!) and the disciplin (they never break rank!) to wage war, but they also have things working against them, like: Tactical inflexibility (people who don't do stuff by "the book" and don't follow conventional doctrine, even if it would save the lives of a lot of soldiers, are shunned (!)) Neither are they the greatest soldiers pound for pound - in one on one they are matched by humans and easily surpassed by the Asari (despite being better at war alltogether compared to the Asari) and the Krogan blow everybody else out of the water entirely (at least 1 on 1 - especially if you meet a Krogan Battlemaster (a biotic Krogan!) like Wrex (who is also damned experience because he's fucking OLD and has seen much in his time so far!)!
@fountainchristain7 жыл бұрын
DreamingFlurry I think they would beat a human 1 on 1 because of the fact they train so much longer and it would be harder to have a human match that same level of training pound for pound plus the huge amount of ships they have over everyone else means they would be the best pound for pound
@fishworshipper7 жыл бұрын
With guns who can beat who one-one-one is irrelevant. I think a Turian would be able to beat a human in hand-to-hand combat though, because of three words: chitinous metallic plates.

When pointing out how powerful the Turien fleet is, perhaps you should note that this is legally mandated by the Citadel Council? In a move with faint echoes of the Washington Naval Treaties, the Turiens get more Dreadnoughts than everyone else in a rising ratio. Humanity, as a result, had to decommission (or convert) any Dreadnoughts they had in excess to the allowed number. Another good reason not to walk into the trap that is the Citadel.
@Squiggles012 жыл бұрын
The FCW was started because the Turian ships didn't have the brain power to warn the unknown ships to back away from the MR. But they just decided "Fuck it! Lets just blast them!" And then got into a war that saw both races were pushing each other shit in so far they were gagging on it.

@Dragonsphinx3 жыл бұрын
I heard that too, but I’m not 100% whether the reaction depends on the kind of food being eaten (like that some foods are toxic and some not) or the individual (whether they have an allergic reaction or not). Like how some humans will have a deadly anaphylactic shock from eating peanuts, others might feel unwell but not die, and some people can eat as many peanuts as they want. I always thought it was the latter: that depending on the Turian, they might die from eating Levo-food, or they might get sick but not die, or they might not react at all but wouldn’t get any nutritional benefit from it.
@BrightWulph3 жыл бұрын
@@Dragonsphinx Yeah, I always assumed it was a "some are more suspetable to allergic reactions than others." But since there's very little solid lore on what kind of reactions, there's only speculation.

A bit lacking to say the Turians are based on Rome. Yes, true. But almost every race has a streak of Roman Identity woven into it. Latin phrases are all over the place, to begin with, along with Rome-inspired designs in Cerberus, Asari, Human.. what have you. Quarians and Turians both have a dedicated culture of military families with venerated names and often become state leaders - Roman Nobiles and Mos Maiorum. Quarians, Turians, and Humans have varying forms of government, but all have a pretty strong military tradition that serves as a foundation of their civics. Latin military phrases are a key indicator in this regard. The Asari are seen as founding peoples whose technological superiority gave them an edge in various regards, and were inherently compatible in cultural consummation with almost any other species. As a species of natural integration and cosmopolitan fusion they were more Roman than any other species in that regard. You will often notice that recruitment for Humans always get the most from dispossessed men and women from colonies and poverty, rather than more middle class citizens harnessing an age long tradition of service like say, the Quarians and Turians. In that regard it resembles the Marian reforms. Protheans are more Roman in the way that they facilitated an imperial infrastructure wherein species could join to eventually call themselves "Prothean", and they were ruthless in their conquest and domination of the galaxy. It's upon their relics that a technological renaissance was achieved for almost every council species, and was thus the classic, founding empire whose legacies provided the platform for all those to come. In that regard, they were more Roman than any species in the ME universe. Their motive, however, was somewhat Spartan. Integrating the Protheans and the contemporary ME universe can result in a political spectrum, the Protheans marking a heavily centralized and uniform system of hegemonic empire, and the c. ME universe showing a period of decentralization, rediscovery, re-expansion, and developments into various less centralized and more locally autonomous forms of rule, it can roughly be considered a period of Republican rule, as seen by the citadel council. I could go on, but I think it is best to say that "Like many other aspects of certain species, or the ME universe as a whole, classical references inspired the Turian race in the following ways.. "
