Mass Effect 2 - Telling the Council to Shove It

Telling the council to shove it up there air quoting asses felt every bit as good as I thought it would.
Seriously, when Mass Effect 3 comes out, I may very well play it without being a Spectre, just to make it unique. Though I'm sure not having the support of the Council races will end up doing more harm then good.
Late 2011/Early 2012 can't come quick enough.

Looking back at it, my femshep caused a lot of things (She is my first shep and I make choices based on what I would do if I was in that situation.) To be honest, this scene smacked of really lazy writing. It's past the point of unbelievable that the council still didn't believe in the threat of the Reapers after the battle of the citadel. Mass Effect 2 was a great game in many ways, but the plot hardly progressed in any meaningful way from the first game.

ME2 was about building alliances in preparation for what was to come. Unfortunately ME3 kinda scrapped all that to give you a few cameos, a funny dialogue option or 2 and a severely reduced squad. Don't get me wrong I liked ME3 for what it is but they did leave a lot of stuff unanswered.

What I can't though is that they never try and confirm it *for themselves* one way or another even though we see it's possible because Liara does it. The hoarding of the beacon is also a hige dick move and, I imagine, an ass-pull because they wanted to rewrite Drew's sceipt after it leaked (could be wrong here).

So you can save a group of three blind, suborn morons who nearly allowed the Reapers to live, have them thank you for the sacrifice humanity made, then two years later have them still refuse to believe you, and threaten to take action on you for insulting them(Not that they ever would, right?), then only then acknowledge the Reapers exist when they arrive, and never once apologize for not listening to you or admitting you were right, and also still doing jack shit to help. Or... you can do what the Council says and do whatever it takes to keep galactic peace, and focus on the main threat rather then saving their dumbasses, allowing them to die. Then you find your replacements don't even want to meet with you, for whatever reason... and then... once you do meet them... you find the Turian replacement isn't that bad of a guy... the Salarian replacement... feels about the same... and the Asari replacement is just as awful as the last, if not worst. Everybody gives the council shit, and while some of it is deserved, most of their actions in ME1 made sense. Not accepting eye witnesses as sufficient evidence to pursue a spectre is reasonable, as is not wanting to start a war with the terminus systems, especially considering the batarians are also a constant worry. Remember, most of the galaxy rides on the decisions they make. In the other games though, they really had no reason to sit on their asses, they could at leats have done what they could to investigate and prepare.

In the first game they were annoying, although I did understand their reasoning, their rationale in ME2 is downright illogical. The Geth were not capable of making a "ship" that could destroy the Citadel and cut through its defenses like butter. I also believe the Council didn't even do a thorough investigation of Illos, too lazy to do a professional search.

See I could have had this conversation with the council on my first playthrough...but there was the small issue of them being Spaghetti Bolognese during the battle of the citadel in the first game. I'll mention also that that decision did not even register to me and is always satisfying to watch.

The Mass Effect Trilogy is literally just Shepard bailing out an incompetent council. I've only gone through it once but I let the council die for ignoring my warnings and the replacements are honestly just as ignorant.

I almost always let the original council die in ME1. They're all annoying & a super pain in the ass. Granted the new ME3 council isn't much better, but they do come around quicker to helping you.

Linkenski because she never developed feelings for anyone before and was confused about falling in love, made her act cute awkward and lovely. Some just like this type of girls. Personally, my first, and perheps biggest love since, had character similar to Tali's, so i am extremely biased.

The thing I didn't like about the decision at the end of 1, was it didn't matter whether you killed the council or not, in number 3 the council still included a turian, asari and salarian

i saved the council just so i can see the Turian councilor beg for help when the reapers come and then HOPEFULLY bioware will have an option to say: ahh yes "reapers.." and let him be minced meat.

Preach it, brother-- and on another note, was I the only one who cried foul at BioWare NOT giving the player a chance to do the "Ah yes, 'Reapers' " bit (complete with air quotes) *back* at the turian Councilor? Maybe they thought it would be in bad taste, what with his homeworld actually getting ass-raped by the Reapers by ME3 (a point at which even HE would finally have to admit the truth...though it would be kinda funny if he still denied the Reapers' existence, even AS that was happening).

Ashley said they had recordings from their armor why didn't Shepard present this? Or why didn't Shepard tell the Tevos to mind meld to see everything Liara did in Me1? If she doesn't want to do it find another trust worthy Asari to do it instead. There was proof but the game developers forgot about it when writing the script.

It is not just that. For me as a player, you spend 2 games being diplomatic with them. But they constantly doubt and question everything you do. They never take you seriously (to me), so when I played it again, I insulted them every chance I got because the respectful route only seemed to go one way.

I was playing as a paragon with a femshep and I saved the council, and even when I had this conversation with them i was picking the good options....that's until that jackass turian air quoted me. Then I turned the game off put mass effect in and let the council die, and I felt sooooooo much better after that

I like to imagine that when Harbinger goes back to the head reaper, it says "Ah, yes 'Commander Sheppard'. A single human responsible for the deaths of three reapers and that of countless of our soldiers, alledgedly risen from the dead to wipe out our entire invasion fleet. We have dismissed that claim." That would be so ironic.

This is why I always sacrifice then in the end of ME1, i mean they tell me all the time that we have to make sacrifice for the greater good. But well Bioware lie to us, and put another council with the same personality and equal "reasonable" voice in ME2. And don't make me talk about ME3 when everything you do in the two previous games don't count at all. PD: and this is why ME1 is the best game.
