However, his agendas for the supremacy of humanity were separate from it's salvation from the reapers, which is why he let Shepard do his thing with minimal intervention (although a lot of oversight).

Like many others, I got a little* choked up at this scene the first** time I saw it. After the sick gut punch of the first 10 minutes of the game - losing the Normandy - bringing Shepard back from the dead, losing track of all the original crew - this - oh yes, THIS... Sometimes I watch this and some cynical part of my mind is cursing Bioware for being so damn good at being manipulative bastards with my emotions. Then I STOMP on that little bastard cynic until it shuts up. You know what this reminds me of? And in no way am I calling this a rip-off. It IS it's own thing. But the feeling it evokes is VERY similar. The end of Star Trek IV. After all the heartbreak of losing Spock and the destruction of the original Enterprise, they've spent pretty much a movie and a half without a place to call home. You think they're going to never have a ship like the Enterprise again - and it looks like the shuttle is headed for the Excelsior. Then they crest over the saucer of the Excelsior and you see her... NCC-1701-A. Enterprise. I saw that the first weekend live in the theaters. The studio had done a damn fine job of keeping this little secret under wraps. NO ONE knew about this! And I was in a theater with a bunch of my friends in the local Sci-Fi and anime fan clubs making up at least half the theater audience. The cheers and applause were DEAFENING! And not a dry eye in the house!! Kirk: "My friends... We've come home." To have a VIDEOGAME pull THAT same type of FEELS. Yeah. Don't goddamn tell me that Videogames aren't ART!! (*Okay - A LOT) (** Every damn time)

This ship, to me at least, ranks up there with the Enterprise and the Serenity insofar as recognition. The Normandy should have a special place in every scifi nerd's heart as one of the greatest starships of all time. I am not ashamed to admit that I cried when the original was destroyed, and when this one was revealed. Something neither of the previous two ships mentioned can claim.

Johnnie Williams Actually not really, aside from the fact that the normandy is only 230 meters long and enterprise(d or e) outclasses it in tonnage by probably 30 times or more, firepower and shielding in star trek is several orders of magnitude more powerful than the mass effect universe. Mass effect kind of crippled itself by stating the the most powerful mass driver in the alliance navy only hit with 38 kilotons of kinetic energy. A quantum torpedo is like 200 megatons, or over 5000x as powerful. And the normandys guns arent likely as powerful as a dreadnought. Still, I never got chills down my spine from the enterprise like I did with this scene. Verdict, Normandy is still cooler

His voice now sounds with a hint of sorrow. "Team was broken up, records sealed, and I was grounded. The Alliance took away the only thing that mattered to me." He scoffs. "Hell yeah I joined Cerberus." I raise my eyebrow at him. "You really trust the Illusive Man?" Jeff curtly shakes his head. "I don't trust anyone who makes more than I do. But they aren't all bad." Given I have them to thank for being alive again, that's fair enough. "Saved your life. Let me fly--" He nods to the big windows in front of us. "And there's this. They only told me last night." One by one, in the hangar bay, the overhead lights flicker on and reveal what I thought I'd never see again. It's my ship, coming out of the shadows like a phoenix rises from the ashes. Back from the dead. Its red has been replaced with a vivid dark yellow, and on the front, the Cerberus emblem stands out against the main white paint. "It's good to be home, huh, Commander?" Joker gives me a slight nudge, and I nod, a smile appearing on my face. "It most definitely is." I turn back toward the windows, looking at the reborn ship. "I guess we'll have to give her a name." [...] Some time later, the final touches are done, and the Normandy has now really risen from the ashes. In front of us, the massive double doors of the dock open, revealing the endless space beyond. Slowly, Joker navigates the ship out of the station into the infinite sea of dark blue and the glittering stars.

I remember this scene from my first playthrough in 2011. At that time i didn't know Mass Effect very well and Mass Effect 1 wasn't available on PS3, so I started ME2 without knowing the first one.
