The side mission with Legion and learning about how the Quarians treated them (no different to genocide) was heartbreaking. If a machine has to ask "do I have a soul?" then no answer is needed.

Agree, i may not be the biggest fan of the endings but overall Mass Effect 3 hit me really hard in the feels. No Trilogy of games hit me as hard as Mass effect did, especially by 3. And this scene, at the time i didn't realize that sparing the Geth in Mass effect 2 along with a few other choices i made. Makes peace in 3 harder to achieve, and yet somehow going in blindly imanaged it. And when i found out i was inches away from the Quarians extinction. I was shocked to find out. Also Mass Effect 3 has my favorite controls and combat in the Trilogy.

The last 15 minutes are objectively so terrible that you could write an essay on it. Hell, when I was out with COVID, I played through the trilogy in 2 weeks and wrote an analysis on it because I had nothing better to do. The last 15 minutes took up almost 10 pages as I documented everything wrong with it. That being said, the game as a whole is FAR from perfect outside of the ending. It has some great moments like the entire Tuchanka arc and most of the Rannoch arc BUT it’s ultimately cluttered with a few consistent problems such as: 1. The way squad mates introduced in ME2 used was mostly pretty terrible. I get why Zaeed and Kasumi weren’t crucial to the plot (they were exclusively DLC that were made after the main game of ME2 was released) but the way Jacob, Jack, Grunt, and Samara were used was just disrespectful. These 3 were well loved characters and they were mostly relegated to a single mission, a numerical rating in the War Asset room, and a video goodbye in the war room. Granted, you do get a last somewhat interactive conversation with Jacob, Jack, and Samara on the Citadel later in the game but Grunt just sends you an email and that’s it. Granted, the Citadel DLC somewhat rectifies it by giving extra scenes with them BUT they’re mostly comedy based and come off as fan fiction with budgets. I will say I liked that Miranda, Mordin, Thane, and Legion played extremely important roles and had fulfilling arcs. 2. The War Asset room just cheapened the narrative because you never see the vast majority of them in action. Seriously, who DIDN’T want to see Elcor living tanks engage in combat with brutes?! 3. There was WAY too much auto dialogue for a game franchise that prides itself on choice. Even the biggest detractors of Mass Effect 2 will admit that they like the variety in conversation outcomes but ME3 doesn’t give the player enough freedom. 4. BioWare REALLY screwed up by making the Reapers too powerful to the point that they railroaded a pointless plot device (the Crucible) in to give a plausible way for the Reapers to be defeated. There is no legitimate way to rationalize the Crucible as a plot point because its origins have no in-universe explanation when it sorely needs them and there is no justifiable reason why it wouldn’t have been discovered many years ago. 5. As fun as the Rannoch arc is, it completely shits on the values of the “true Geth” that Legion explained in ME2. Legion explains the true Geth would NEVER accept the technology of other races to improve themselves and would prefer to be destroyed but that gets tossed out the window in ME3. 6. Kai Leng is a garbage rival. All he does is fight Shepard but instantly call for help to bail him out, run, and then brag. BW’s intention with how to perceive him is NOT how he comes across in practice. Those are just a few examples.

This directly influenced my decision at the end. At the moment of Legion's achievement of true individuation he chooses "personality dissemination" for the sake of his people, without hesitation. i knew that Destroy was the only way for Shepard to survive. But i also knew, based on what the Catalyst said, that all synthetic life, including the Geth, would be destroyed. i couldn't make Legion's sacrifice meaningless. i chose Synthesis, a future for organics and synthetics, together.

@@bobthet-rex2718 in Synthesis you are not controlling others. You are gone. But by doing so, the line between synthetics and organics are erased and everyone lived in harmony. Though for me control is the one I always pick with a paragon Shepard leading the reapers and establishing order in the galaxy yet doing so without forcing the civilizations to merge into one being.

At first, I thought rewriting the heretics was for nothing, but really, this whole situation ended up awesome. I don't care what people say about this game, I think this game is the perfect 3rd installment. The endings aren't the best, but neither was mass effect 2's. Especially that last boss...but you know what? I still loved Mass Effect 2, and I still love this game.

I love that Shepard really cleans house in this game. He stops the Quarian/Geth conflict, cures the genophage, saves the rachni from exctinction, saves the council (again), all his old companions are back to fight for him in some way, and he even kills a few reapers along the way. Unless of course you play as a lazy, selfish, heartless bastard and just kills everything and everyone you meet. Dudes, stop being such dicks... ;-P

This one scene and this whole trilogy has gotten me so excited for true artificial intelligence something like the Geth especially since they sound so cool and look cool, but also because I would chill out with my Geth buddy everyday and show it the world. Seems that the main difference between organics and syntetics is their motivation. Organics are determined by instinct, as well as positive and negative feelings which lead to experiences. But i dont really know what the synthetics motivation is. Maybe gathering knowledge?

No, it is implied that as soon as Legion does the upgrades it refers to itself as 'I' instead of 'we'. Meaning IT died then and there which is sad but pretty awesome. Alas i wish Legion survived.

There is a play through where Grunt dies. You have to not have done his loyalty mission in ME2, which I did, but I read that elsewhere and have seen it on a video.

@llinsane1ll Apparently there are a lot of variables that go into that option appearing. I got the option, but tali and legion both were loyal in me2, and when I did this mission, I had max reputation / paragon. The wiki says that any of those things, or all of them, could pertain to people getting the option, or not getting it. It's not totally clear to people yet. Hope that helps.

Because he was the last original "Reaper" geth. His personality was originally based off a Reaper's code, from what I remember...So, like a virus, he had to be "purged" from the system for the rest of the Geth to obtain true intelligence. Overall, it was a noble sacrifice.

Indeed he was. If get the gibbed save editor and put him in your squad at the beginning of the game and bring in your squad for every mission he easily has some of the best dialogue. Between comments that are as good as and hilarious as Garrus' to some of the most though provoking questions and statements. Legion truly is the lost potential of the original Mass Effect trilogy.

I think the moment they chose for him to make the ultimate sacrifice is perfect. The feels double when you realise that instead of " We" he says " I", which means in his last moments he wasn't just a geth- he was a person. ( Now that I mentioned it, I cannot unsee Legion as Geth Jeasus lol)

Why is Legion uploading code after ceasefire? He was against using reaper technology before. And I think Geth are destroy in red ending because of it. In best red ending, only reaper tech is destroyed. Reapers, relays, Citadel, EDI and Geth. It was not explained this way, but makes more sense that Catalyst BS...

Not only that but the reaper destroyer they just defeated said pretty much the same thing, though claiming we can't comprehend it just as the other reapers have always asserted. Then the catalyst proves this completely false by actually saying why it's supposedly necessary. Would have been nice to be able to ask the Catalyst what it thought of the Geth and EDI continuously proving it wrong.

God I hated this decision. My paragon score wasn't high enough so I sacrificed the geth. EDI's analysis of the geth later on the Normandy vindicated my decision somewhat but I still wasn't that happy.

You can't be sure if they made peace permanently, the game stresses the point that this is very fragile and the only thing keeping it together is probably the alliance against the Reapers. You see the Quarian admiral claim that Legion is just a weapon, do you think a temporary armistice can chance centuries of prejudice, conflict, and hate?

I understand what you're saying, but I think this is sort of comparing apples and oranges. Regardless of your race, sex, or sexual orientation, you're still human. We're all still human, or, if you want to be more broad, organics :p. The Reapers made the point that organics and synthetics are fundamentally different: synthetics will always try to better themselves and reach self-awareness, and organics will be threatened. This gives rise to conflict.

I know it's been 2 yrs lol but, They were mainly for evacuation and covering flanks and such, h2h fights were mainly done by humans, turians and krogans, and most of the ships they had are armed civilian ships, so don't expect them to be as good as other cruisers lol

Totally agree. I would have actually liked it if you couldn't save them both with the paragon option (I know in the paragon you don't really save legion but he does die the way he wants). Having only the two options and not the happy fix all paragon option would have made the decision carry much more weight, and the deaths much more impact.
