I dig this part the most too. Really feels like a Hans Zimmer composed piece of work. The overlay of synth strings over the main baseline drives the sensation of tension and desperation that the Alliance experiences throughout the course of ME3's plot. But ME3's plot went to hell after Rannoch IMO. I digress though and am not interested in a fight on KZbin.

This is why Andromeda failed. Its soundtracks NEVER give the chills like the Trilogy do! Mars, Rannoch, Creation, and Suicide Mission. These four soundtracks represent the style of true Mass Effect music. They're not just epic and classic but also unique and inspiring.

The way the slow synth swells at 3:05 is wonderful. The best part is how the enemies and layout in this chapter are meant to slow you down. The frantic beat combined with the synth adds a lot to the tension, especially since the section proceeding it blares with the Reaper-like horns.

I think I realized when this soundtrack was playing - "I'm having far too much fun with this game. And it's partly due to the fact that the soundtrack has improved massively since Mass Effect 1, no more minimizing the game to play my own music in the background! This is a very appropriate soundtrack. (Although in fairness, playing 'Big Iron' by Johnny Cash whilst riding the Mako to take down a gang of Mercs was some of the best fun I had in that game...) :D

I used to hate the ending but you know what, I do agree with you now that I recently beat the trilogy again. The ending makes sense with the extended cut dlc and the leviathan dlc. If you pay enough attention then all of it makes sense and the ending is now actually pretty good. The original ending was lacking in many ways but the current state of it is good.

mass effect over the three games, has the best soundtracks over any game, i've ever played and i've been playing games since the 80s. of course this is just personal opinion. Each fit in to the mission and to the game they represent. ME3 soundtrack gets me more excited than the other two.
