Not sure how the Optical Flare functions in SC2, but in BW a blinded ranged unit could still return fire to any hostile ranged attacker. This is due to the fact, that in BW whenever attacked by non-cloaked unit, you temporarily gain vision from the hostile's location, even if that location is on an elevated surface (the miss chance did apply though). The affected target's sight range is reduced to a single grid, other than that, it also removes the detection ability, if the target happened to have it.
@luckylarry713 жыл бұрын
@@octav3k Thanks for the confirmation. I agree that in multiplayer it's a meme ability and a waste of res. but for campaign purposes it's actually a very cool and useful one, plus it sets apart the UED Medics, from those in WoL.

Yeah, I remember the same thing. In SC1, non-cloaked units always gave their location away when they opened fire and I abused this fact at least once to kill units on the high ground. I always figured that the brief visibility was due to advanced sensors and computers could trace weapons fire back to their point of origin. It's now counterbattery fire works IRL after all. I also remembered being surprised that SC2 units didn't retain this ability.

I'd assume that in the eyes of UED command, it's like feudalism or whatever: The royal family has changed (Confederacy -> Dominion), but as a human citizen of Koprulu it is Duran's DUTY to transfer loyalty to his new sovereign. Instead, Duran was like, "Nuh uh, more like Dumb-minion", and his first response to encountering an alien invasion fleet that came to conquer everything he'd even known was, "Hey, let me help. Here's a map to the secret entrance." Useful, but he can't be trusted in the long-term.

I actually thought about how it happened lorewise, like they sent 1 pilot, who commandeered the initial crew by convincing them? Or did he taunted them into thinking they are the Dominion forces, and Duke's fleet are rebels/invading force? That would make sense, since they might have no communication because of diversion. That would also explain why Duke is so cocky, him seeing that fleet in Dominion colours (they couldnt have repainted all the BCs, right, it's only gameplay visual, right?) might had him thinking the UED presence is limited with those tac teams and maybe an Alexander capital ship floating aside, so that space battle shouldve been a surprise for him when the tables turned? Or do those pilot units represent a whole battlecruiser crew and all of it is just a miniature? Because sometimes those fights are so lorewise bullshit, like a bunch of marines assaulting a whole planet and succeeding...
@stylesrj3 жыл бұрын
Could also be that the ships are undergoing refurbishment and there's only a skeleton crew onboard. Or maybe it's like that beam sweep thing in Star Trek where the whole crew needed to be off the ship while it was being cleaned. So you get a pilot in there, he takes the helm and pilots it to the middle where maybe a UED skeleton crew can be assembled within the 30 hours before Duke's arrival.
