I've lived in a suburb of Chicago for 70 years now, almost my whole life. While a lot of fault lies with local and state government officials, there's a large presence of gangs and drugs. The biggest impediment to LE getting any positive impact against all the various types of crime centers on the local residents themselves. They will not cooperate with LE by turning in those involved, especially if the crimes involve one of their little family 'darlings' or friends. So unless and until the residents start putting a higher value on law and order than their gang banger friends/family members, it won't improve. Meanwhile they are killing each other, and most of the law abiding citizens quit caring a long time ago.

I live in NWI too and this is nothing new. It's been going on for years. Usually they're closer to the toll road or 94. I hate the mass Illinois exodus into NWI they've ruined this area. There's so much traffic and non sense here now. Crown Point, St John, Cedar Lake all these areas have completely changed and have 2-3 times the population they did just 5-10 years ago.

They stopped using shot spotter around the third week of Sept 2024. My brother was shot Sept 29 and had to walk a block for help. Shot spotter would have helped. Shot in the back for no reason at all after being robbed and walked 30 feet away...no threat. Mayor Brandon Johnson did not renew the contract.

Hyde Park is a nice area , Bronzeville, Bridge Port, etc. I think this mass shooting happened not to far from Midway???
