Levy played this role perfectly. The fact he can keep up enough with them, understands more than enough about the game to guide discussions and between positions really well, and "translate" for them if needed, makes this an utterly brilliant watch. I actually think Magnus and Hikaru complement each other well too, somehow they think slightly differently enough about positions that you can glean something new by hearing them both, instead of one or the other.

Massive improvement on the host who knew nothing about chess. Levy and Danya are two of the best commentators, because they can bridge the gap between genius and layman. Hikaru is really good too, though maybe not for newbies. This is the right format. 40m may be a more natural time length

No, I prefer Kaya. She listens to the experts and do not interject like Levy. Levy made a lot of misunderstandings in this recap and asserted his interpretations and asked questions about that instead of Magnus's talks flow. Magnus was essentially blaming it on Gukesh rather than getting impressed with Ding and Levy was doing the opposite, and the criticisms of Levy on Gukesh's prep was also on wrong areas, aspects and moves and he tried to force the conversation there. His recap videos pn previous matches also have completely contradictory ideas than what Magnus says in Take Take Take recaps with him which ok as we watch his recaps for his takes and style. But with Magnus, he shouldn't push those as there is no other opportunity to get Magnus's take. Also, Kaya seems enthusiastic about the WCC event itself which Levy isn't which for a host of a recap of WCC, it's just horrible to say the least.
@ItsAsparageese3 күн бұрын

In previous games, Gukesh played for a Win, he was at least be able to settle with a Draw. In this game, Ding wanted to win to level up, whereas Gukesh started playing for a Draw, that's the flaw with all those bad pawn moves resulting in the stuck knights and that bad queen side Rook that he couldn't put in effective squares. When you castled on King side, the Queen side pawns need to be freely advancing forward, but they were stuck behind those ineffective knights. By the end, its too late to get out of that mess and space constriction..

Enjoyed this recap thoroughly. +1 to the other comments as well that called out the fact that they fixed the audio issues from game 11 this time around - like many others, I watched the entire game 11 recap fully even with the painful audio just because Magnus's take on the game is valuable. Very valuable insights from both Carlsen and Nakamura, and Levi did a great job of asking pointed questions but mostly letting Hikaru and Magnus do the talking. One thing seems clear from their insights though they didn't quite put it this way - Team Gukesh seem to have gone into Game 11 with a combination of a confused strategy and a misplaced strategy. Confused strategy - keep the game solid + not-solid (allowing Ding to go wrong), but executed this strategy quite poorly. Misplaced strategy - perhaps putting too much emphasis on the surprise value of new moves (that are objectively pretty poor in that they give the opponent easy play vs yourself tough play). This strategy rather than finding an objectively strong set up with easy plans and easy play even if it means the game peters out to a draw should've been preferred in the match situation rather than hoping for Ding to self-destruct and Gukesh gets the chance to pretty match close out the match in round 11 with another win. In the end the set up out of the opening that Gukesh allowed for Ding had no real scope for Ding to go wrong with simple plans and play that Ding went on to execute masterfully!

Levi is really good in this role as moderator. He poses great questions and is able to keep up with the hikaru and magnus in the conversation

Omg this recap is amazing. Since I’ve been back into chess I’ve been huge fan of Magnus and hikaru. Especially when they go at each other like that bullet championship. And watching Gotham videos all the time which I had the honor to meet on his event at a church in Brooklyn. You all can tell this is the first time having Magnus and Hikaru together for so long. At the beginning hikaru is holding up a bit. He is a gentleman and also being respectful. But I hope he gets to be more of himself on the next one 🙂. Around the end Hikaru was more comfortable even when they lost Magnus ( lol moment 🤣). And of course watching Magnus being so happy and natural. You can tell he’s enjoying this. Hope we get to have more recaps and thank you again for doing this. This is astonishingly beautiful. Happy birthday all and God bless.

This is the first time I see Magnus not bored at a recap and he really tried to grap the right words. I think this was because of the presence of Hikaru. Levy did a great job too. Liked it a lot.

Levy should definitely bring Magnus and Hikaru back on after the World championship. Two of the greatest chess players of the 21st century. Would also be nice to get Gary Kasparov in as a third guest. Would probably be the greatest panel ever.

Honestly I love the semi casual production vibe from the videos. It makes them look real, in the end it’s the conversation and clean board representation that matters. A little bit audio here and there is fine. Lovely content please keep doing it ❤
