Thank you, i always wanted to see this. The music is gorgeous; sort of reminds me of Roi de Lahore, Thais, and Henry VIII. I love big French Operas that have multiple big parts for the soloists, and include ballets. This cast was fabulous: such good singing, and the crowd certainly loved them. The story was fine, once you didn't expect it to be the Bible story. I loved the big choral parts too. It was lovely to see it richly costumed. Liceu does incredible work.

Massenet n’a pas eu de chance avec son conte biblique Herodiade (1881)que l’opéra de Paris lui refusa de nombreuses fois jusqu’à son acceptation en 1921 bien après sa mort et après l’´armistice de 1918 . Ce grand opéra avec ballets , nombreux personnages et multiples tableaux en 4actes a été remarquablement monté au Liceu 1984)avec une distribution de rêve : M Caballe magistrale et investie et le jeune premier de l’époque José Carreras . Les costumes et le dispositif scénique d’escalier du palais d’Herode et du Temple sont réalistes. Une présentation de l’œuvre en v d c au TCE aura lieu ce 25/11/22 .

Beautiful music, arias/ singing.This French opera is usually performed in 4 acts (standard revised version). The principles are: Salome, Jean (John, the Baptiste), Herodiade, Herode and Fanuel (Phanuel). This is an all star cast. Pleasant dancers and erudite music enhance this opus. Unfortunantly the stage is too dark; they could have added some torch lights.
