Massey Harris Ferguson TE Y 20 P3 Perkins engine

,This TEY20 Ferguson is one of a small batch of tractors exported to Eastern Europe right at the end of T20 production. The engine is a Perkins P3, the same as used in the conversion kits available at the time. The fuel tank fitted is a slave tank and if you look carefully, not only is the air filter missing, but there is no battery either which makes me think this is a first start up but with more work to complete the tractor. The later Perkins P144 and the Fordson Dexta F144 were derived from the engine in this tractor. The idea of starting using a slave tractor for the first time using is an excellent idea and very safe. Both tractors are stationary so no panics over braking and minimal strain on the transmission whilst not overloading the starter motor. Being a diesel of this age it doesn`t need a battery once running anyway!

Very interesting tractor. The original Ferguson TE-20 diesel was the four cylinder TE F 20 built from 1951, It used a "Standard" diesel engine. The TE Y 20 with the Perkins engine has a higher mounted hood than the original Standard engine TE F 20

Re: massey harris ferguson TEY 20, diesel Pozdrav iz Slovenije! Imam isti traktor kot ti, še je v obnovi, TE Y 20 letnik 1956 . Y pomeni YUGOSLAVIA. Ti traktorji so bili izdelani po naročilu za Jugoslavijo kjer je na internem natečaju v novonastali tovarni ITM pozneje IMT zmagala tovarna MASSEY HARRRIS FERGUSON iz Anglije . Izdelanih je bilo natanko 1996 traktorjev in sicer od 15.11.1955 do 23.3.1956 Ti traktorji so bili opremljeni s najsodobnejšimi traktorskimi diesel motorji tistega časa - PERKINS P3 z 32 KM. Pozneje so ta motor kopirali v IMT-ju pod oznako IM 033/T. Vgrajevali so ga na IMT 533, ki pa je kopija sivo - zlatega FE 35 oziroma rdečega MF 35X. TEY 20 je imel dve serijski številki: eno pod volanom -original tovarniško -angleško in drugo na prednjem mostu pri prednjem levem kolesu, udarili so jo v IMT-ju imela je oznako S56xxxx , 56 pomeni leto izdelave.(ali 55).xxxx pa zaporedno serijsko številko. TEY 20 JE OBVEZNO SIVE BARVE - NE RDEČE!!! Pazi to ! Haubo in blatnike prebarvaj na sivo barvo. Pa tisti grdi sedež čim prej odstrani dol. Zanimivost: TE20 je bil kopija ameriškega traktorja FORD 2N (1942) , ki je bil okleščena verzija FORD 9N (1939) zaradi 2 svetovne vojne. FORD 9N in 2N sta bila plod sodelovanja med Henry Fordom in Harryjem Fergusonom. Ford in Ferguson sta se sporekla zaradi patenta Fergusonove hidravlike, zato je odšel Ferguson v samostojno proizvodnjo traktorjev. Tako je nastal TE20. Traktorje TE20 so na Banner Lane factory in Coventry delali od 1946 do 1956. Izdelanih je bilo 517651 traktorjev TE20.

Ignition of the tractor via PTO shaft is very unusual boot mode. This way I chose because starter still does not work for tweaking but I did not decide because I wanted to try something different

Budd Hudd Starting a tractor with a PTO is an excellent way to start a tractor. The other tractor is acting like a "pony engine" that was used to the old style JD diesel tractors. The PTO can be used to endlessly spin the tractor's engine until it warms up properly. Battery starts are only good if the engine starts quickly.

It appears to be a genuine 3 cylinder. There are two possibilities, a TEA-20 with an aftermarket Perkins engine replacement, I know of one here in Australia OR one of the tiny number of factory built TEY-20 (Perkins 3 cylinder powered TE-20) The TEF-20 was powered by a 4 cylinder Standard engine.
