I had to refresh my memory…I have 3 of these maples just like yours and 2 lime green ones with the same structure. In the fall they have unbelievable vibrant colors that I really wish lasted longer. They were already here when I purchased my home so I am not sure of the varieties. The previous owners left us a lot of transformation pictures of the property which I thought was pretty neat. The ones in the front yard were put in the early 70’s and they added through the back in the 80’s along with other types of maples, pines rhododendrons, Azaleas, Hydrangeas, roses fruit, nut trees…been here going on 8 years and still trying to figure out the plants and care needs. Extremely beautiful but also high maintenance…never ending. My first 2 years I just weeded, treated and fertilized so I could see what was coming up each season. I had a arborist come out and he was awe struck by the beauty. I had him come 3 different times and he taught me quite a bit. Very knowledgeable.

I pruned a Japanese maple that was burned a bit from a house burning. We rebuilt the house all winter. In the spring the tree had new growth and was still healthy. I took a sawsall and oscillating tool to it and tried to follow some rules I learned from bonsai. The owner was thrilled with how it looked. I took off the dead stuff, the crossing branches and the ones facing in, and gave it a nice shape. Even my boss was impressed.

Arborists aren't dendrologists or biologists. They're usually overpaid loggers who passed the certification test which is rote memorization. The easy way to understand arborists: "when your primary tool is a chainsaw your usual solution is to cut." I'm rather amazed they said anything at all beyond telling you what you did wrong.

I've been doing the same thing for my cousins japanese maple. Only pruned it twice so far but it's looking much better than it was all over grown with some dead branches. In a year or 2 it should be in tip top shape. Very nice pruning in this video

I have a little tree like this and it's really overgrown with all the branches constantly growing down all the way to the ground. I'm so happy to see your video! I've tried to prune it before but I was worried that I would damage it. I really love what you did with the tree and I can't wait to try it on mine. ☺

The red Lace Leaf Maple is my favorite, so graceful with crimson leaves. In the Pacific NW the tree you have trimmed would cost about $50K to $60K to buy. I love what you did to that tree and it will be remarkable when the new foliage grows showing off its beauty even more.

@@AsiaPacificGarden Mike manages sales, etc., sister Karen was instrumental in Sales & customer support and she stored my 20 Hoya plants while I was moving. Sadly years ago they lost brother Marty who was a very hard worker and an absolute Gem, always missed. George allowed me to go through his property when the entire area was closed off by the National Guard due to the Columbia River flooding. He drove me to my friends house so I could grab his dump truck to save it. I miss that family immensely. Warm thanks to you when you pass through. Jean Terry
