Here we present a 16 FEET WIDE maple tree that has never been serviced. This took us about 7 hours worth of work. Most maple trees we work on often time creates a security issue where it blocks your line of sight from the front porch. It even blocks security cameras or your ring doorbell as you can't see if someone is creeping up to your front door. Trimming these big trees as a bonsai not only makes your yard more beautiful while increasing the property value of your home, but it makes your home safer.
Watch thru this video as we explain briefly how we do the trimming to get to the final results.

I planted a Japanese maple in my parent’s back garden after my daughter was born. I looked after it for 25 years, it was breathtakingly beautiful. When they sold that house I cried because I had to leave my tree behind. I hope the new owners love it as much as I do.

I pruned a Japanese maple that was burned a bit from a house burning. We rebuilt the house all winter. In the spring the tree had new growth and was still healthy. I took a sawsall and oscillating tool to it and tried to follow some rules I learned from bonsai. The owner was thrilled with how it looked. I took off the dead stuff, the crossing branches and the ones facing in, and gave it a nice shape. Even my boss was impressed.

Arborists aren't dendrologists or biologists. They're usually overpaid loggers who passed the certification test which is rote memorization. The easy way to understand arborists: "when your primary tool is a chainsaw your usual solution is to cut." I'm rather amazed they said anything at all beyond telling you what you did wrong.

Inspiring. I have a maple that has never been pruned in 15 years and it is a lovely umbrella. But I plan on peeking inside at the trunk. I believe I'm going to follow your lead to open it up---just for fun. It'll be a great experiment for me. Thank you. Love Japanese maples.

Happy to hear you're going to give it a try! Maples can take heavy trimming. There is one we service every year where we defoliate up to 80% of the leaves and it's perfectly healthy. Plus if you cut the wrong branch, it'll grow back so fast so it doesn't matter! Practice makes perfect.

Thank you for this helpful video! I have purchased a property with 2 Japanese Maples. One is twice the size of your video tree. It frames a waterfall/frog pond. The other one is the same size as your video and needs to be artistically pruned as you have done. Thank you for your instructive procedure and I will try to use your ideas. Thank you again.
