Hey John Paul, have you found if you can record a loop without needing to enter a tempo first? Boss loopers have always quantized/chopped my guitar-drum track and 'read' the tempo but it takes several goes to get it right on the Headrush (even with a click!). Have you experienced this?
@JohnPaulMusicUK11 ай бұрын
Yes and no. I can start a beat just from clicking on the first loop and making that a certain lengths. No entering the tempo or anything. It does take practice, no matter which looper you are using.

Sort of. I Suppose it’s the closest thing to it that’s an ‘off-the-shelf’ purchase without building something yourself. The effects system is different and in my eyes needs to be more like the Boss RC-505 or the TC-Helicon Voicelive Play;s where you can quickly scroll through and select any. But yeah it’s epic.

Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to create this. You answered my question about replacing my way too big setup with this one piece. Do you use the drum machine? Can it do fills or cymbal crashes?(I use the Beat Buddy, which I would also sideline if the looperboard has compelling drum sounds).I would also assume I could get a nice bass tone effect for my acoustic guitar looping? It sounded cool on your vocal, hopefully could apply to guitar? Thank You again!!
@JohnPaulMusicUK3 жыл бұрын
Hey Everett 👋 So the drum sounds built in are quite simply samples that are on the hard drive. They are not like the beat buddy where they have fills or anything like that but you can midi sync the beat buddy up. Regarding bass sounds, yes there are a few you can start with and then tweak to how you like it and save from there. 👍🏻

Great video, thanks. I wish they kept the menu icons on the top bar, It appears now that it will be two 'screen clicks' to get into the Mixer opposed to just the one tap on the top bar to switch between Mixer and Timeline. I do like that you can get into the mixer with a long press of Function, it is a shame all it seems you can do is look at it. Would have been nice if it allowed adjustment of track levels with the foot switches. I am on the fence on the FX editor. Yes, it is cleaner, but I do like seeing all the settings on the one screen that the older firmware does.
@JohnPaulMusicUK3 жыл бұрын
I hear you. Forgot about the single switch over to the mixer. Nice touch. Yeah the FX system is better but still not perfect. But good news is if they can change that much with a firmware update, then maybe they will come to a happy medium.
@johnlagreca62883 жыл бұрын
@@JohnPaulMusicUK I completely agree JP. I am an embedded FW engineer so I understand the pain of making everybody happy very well. That FX screen is crowded in the old FW and there was no way the vocals would make it in there so what HR did is a great compromise. I don't know what they have for resources in the system but maybe a user configurable screen to just show a certain group of your favorite FX all at once, tough to do though and maybe not much benefit for the overall crowd. It is a fantastic device though. Here is what I taught a 7 year old to do with it in 45 minutes, trying to teach her about time with it. I started her off with a drum track and a quick vocal base line, she did the rest. She lost time around 1:06 and at the end but recovered nicely. Got carried away with the overdubs but what a way to learn. Her use of starting and stopping tracks, overdub start/stops on the time zero are impressive. Very nice info. I now have a RC-300 since a couple of months and I already feel its limitations. I was looking for its successor, had a look on the 505 (very good but no foot switches), the Boomerang and the new line from Boss (RC-500)... and I was wondering what Boss would propose as a RC-300 replacement in a near future. I also had a look on the Headrush in the past but there was indeed a lot of negative comments on the firmware so now with the 2.0 upgrade, it's surely back on my list. The only downside I see with it is the space the pedal takes on the floor but with this level of customization, it's kind of expected I guess. Just a question, are there drums capabilities inside the pedal itself (like the RC-xxx line) or do you have to use backing tracks for that purpose ?
@JohnPaulMusicUK4 жыл бұрын
hey 👋 so there are drum possibilities built into the HeadRush and you can also import backing tracks independently of the loops. yeah - was kinda hoping Boss would have responded by now - the RC5-5 and RC-500 are nice upgrades to the RC-3 and RC-30 but we need a better flagship. also have a look at the Aeros Loop Studio - 6 loop tracks and more with parts and pairs seamlessly with a Beatbuddy. might be the solution you are looking for.

thanks for share! Personally what i miss more is a good harmonizer (v.2 sounds really bad comparing with tc helicon even in "sound" and in tracking too...even worster then digitech that sound a lot better) + miss aux input loopin as tracking for harmonizer. + wondering about midi out if really working. I really would like to migrate from tc helicon voice live 3 but still i didnt see these prior function to me. What i see is the management of the "hardware" of the looperboard it seems to me "badly concepted and engineered". Why decide for any USER "how to manage" the "lots of buttons" on the piece of hardware we have bought? (even very SPACIOUS to bring into own setup for jam..!) I mean if i care more for FX racks then to have all 4 loops controls, then why i cant assign the individual fx on each button? Once it has been done a choice in building such a huge very good piece of hardware + lots of very well routing options + load of software even in looping and either in fx racks, then WHY dont leave to the USER to CHOOSE "how to" assign button to his own pedalboard (mean "his own ART expression") ?! (i really hope is not their "deliberated choice" to "subliminally" force us to buy "also" their guitar pedalboard (which surely is totally assignable in fx) , also cause i would NEVER bring with me both 2 gigantic pieces for gig!! so i can accept the looperboard to have minus fx capability or minus amp modelling, but NOT the chance to assign fx to button! look Voicelive 3, its allow it +also on external pedal switch) i would have think it as a more flexible concept, like with "movalble" labels that you can change/write yourself (imagine like the "old school" sound engineer that stick a labels on the mixer channels....much more customizable to different setup..... or attach like a sets of magnets "pre written" already available when u buy it, or even a "mini display" changeable, but that last can be hard to realize as more costs) and surely a firmware that allow you to assign any FX or function to ANY button and even on any external switch pedal. Is like build a car with 6 gears and decide that you have to run just from 1 to 6 but you cant go e.g. from 5 to 3 or whatever... (hope i express myself enough :-D ) i mean the machine seems to offer awesome chances! But lot of "uunexperienced" definitive choice, made not in "conjunction" with musician /artist /other looper users. As said really I hope they will take care about totally improve harmonizer (i even doubt it really TRACKS the harmony from guitar or keyboeard or even MIDI input ,as the manual not mention anything about ! /aux input looping and harmonizing / programming the buttons with fx racks i want , even with "step" or "hit" function (as voicelive 3 does) / and midi out all the best!!
@JohnPaulMusicUK4 жыл бұрын
I totally get it. After using it for ages I wish they had used their HeadRush Pedalboard hardware and have different software for a Looperboard. Have a look at their guitar pedalboard. It has the little LED panels that you can re-write onto it and an expression pedal built in. They just needed to change the inputs on the back to have 4x xlr/jack combi inputs and boom, you have a fully customisable loop pedal with fx. I think they have decided to have the change is because so many artist loop in different ways - there is not just one kind of loop artist and that is hard to please a while lots of people. The VL3 effects are awesome - no denying that.. but the looping.. vLoop has a lot to be desired. Anyways.. that’s my take on it and you never know what the future might hold.

hey wallace - I would say not as good but getting there. theere is much more work to do with the getting the headrush up to voicelive's effects, especially in regards to harmonies - but they are weorking hard on it and its a progressive thing. my advise is keep the voicelive 3 or do what I have done as swap it out for a voice live play which is a smaller device and marry it with the headrush looperboard, with the intention of migrating over to just the looperboard when its better on the effects.

@JohnPaulMusicUK4 жыл бұрын
If your looking into the headrush - its fantastic - however if you want to marry a looper with a BeatBuddy, then the company who make BeatBuddy have a Loop Pedal called the Aeros Studio and part of it’s design is to play very well with the beat buddy. The alternative is that the Headrush can also do backing tracks - something I dont really use but useful. Or you could import a beat from wav or mp3 as one of the loops and follow along to that, creating loops of different lenghts if you needed to, then save that as a ‘loop’ (patch) and you can build a setlist like this 👍🏻

There is an undo for each track and there is also a peel for each track too. So yes and yes. But with peel you cannot ‘un’-peel it - once it’s stripped away, you cannot bring it back. But with undo it does have a redo. So it’s pretty flexible.

Not going to slag the actual functions on this - but the GUI... I worked with smart phone content in the dark days before the Iphone, and the graphics used to look a lot like this. And we thought it sucked. And it was 15 years ago. Headrush are not alone, the MPC on-screen GUI looks just as bad. As does the Yamaha flagship synth Montage. *Slightly* better than the media center touch screen GUI on my 10 year old car. :) Why? Android and Iphone has this down, why not the music instrument/FX companies?

I hear ya.. all of them are just not up to speed with the modern mobile phone style. have you seen the LCD on the new Boss rc-5 and rc-500 🙄 makes me sad. the new GUI on version 2.0 is much better.. but I get it.

Dear John, what a pity that headrush didn't listen me for 2 important things they didn't care on this new firmware 2.0 : 1) You have to select 3 switchs before changing loop or song. It's a shame ! On live and stage, 1 switch for changing loop or song is better and The Solution ! Believe me. 2) You cannot join or link 2 loops. With this action you can make and built a huge and great musical compositions. Aaarrrrggggghhhh... We have to wait the 3.0 update firmware ?!?... Waiting, waiting, waiting again...

Hey Phil 👋 1) Totally get it with - especially if you have taken the time to make a complete setlist(s). Maybe an external pedal with midi support to tell the Looperboard to cycle through the pre-saved loops would be good - I would like the for the FX but don’t really want to keep adding more pedals - maybe adding it to the list of ‘top row’ customisations. 2) MONSTER looping! 8 tracks of looping eh?! Wow! How about Bounce? Giving you 3 tracks back. Suppose you cant do that whilst its playing thou. Certainly push that on the forum again. 👍🏻

@@JohnPaulMusicUK So for your answer in 1), I think that at least 2 switches (1 for switch to the Loop change mode and 1 switch for the choice of Loop) would be the most obvious and important thing. On the other hand, switch to Effects (1) and then switch to Play / Stop All (2) to get to the loops window and choose the loop (3) is 1 switch too many on Live/Stage sucks. For the 2), that's not what I wanted to say, I don't want 8 tracks, I want to have a Loop which is linked with another (one after the other) and automatically . This allows to have more diverse musical compositions instead of repetitive stupid systems like Steve REICH where we are bored to death. Only the Live / Stage tests provide the answers. For colors or displays, I don't care. What I want is FUNCTIONAL !!!!

Ohhh I see (number 2). Yeah I get that. It’s important. Haven’t been able to test live yet as all live entertainment is still locked down. Haven’t done a show in 4 months now - scratching the walls with that! But I get it. Function is the number one thing. 👍🏻
