Great songwriting creates iconic songs that never loses strength as the years passes, Angela. I consider Massive Attack to be an iconic Trip-Hop force that has created great music and their best album remains Mezzanine to me. EVERY song on that album amazing and brilliant.

This is the most romantic song I have ever heard and yet so simple. With no s...... lyrics. My partner and I have adopted this song as our own, we are now reunited after a separation of 50 years. We may not be fresh faced teens in the springtime of life. But we are both still as hot as ever for each other! Thank you Massive Attack.

Those strings....the way they variate their chords...from happy to sad...how it matches the verse....about unrequited love.....Chills "How can you have a day without a night?" is one of the most hauntingly desperate yet beautiful lines ever sung.
@louise_roseАй бұрын
Yes, the strings and her soulful, searching voice makes it feel very operatic in the best sense, this is pretty much built like an aria even if Nelson's vocal style is a bit different. I think composers like Richard Strauss (also a master at writing for layered strings and a female voice) or Ralph Vaughan Williams, not to mention Leonard Bernstein, would clearly have "got" why this is such a powerful song.

Back when thus song came out I fell in love with it. I was struggling to design my next evening gown collection and had no clue where I was going to go with it. I heard this song while riding to lunch in a friends car. Instant chills then tears. I said please turn around and take me back to my studio. I designed the best evening gown collection I had ever made. Used this song for the show on loop. Best runway song ever. My all time favorite song.

My mum introduced this masterpiece to me when I was a little girl in the early 2000s. She had a CD with all of her fav songs on it from the 80s and 90s. This was one of the tracks! She’d blast it through the car stereo like we were having our own little party. I hadn’t heard this since then and now, here I am in my mid twenties listening to it all over again. Thank you, mum ❤ Fine taste in music.

@@susisonderbar4171 I agree. can you make out what the guy is saying in the background near the end of this song? A song about being hurt and betrayed and you are sad and angry. A song about how can you be so selfish and so cruel. quite a painful song but also quite powerful. The girl keeps walking with her head up in the music video showing us that I am move on and I will never forget what you did to me. the pain she felt only made her stronger and a fighter.
