Love the way you put in clips and stills of the natural world, like the feather on the leaf or the little inch worm on the log. It makes your videos more interesting, than just going from one find to the next digging holes in the ground. Please keep this style and keep the videos coming, I now have to enjoy the outdoors vicariously through videos like yours. Thank you for sharing.

As a kid here in Australia 60 years ago I had two of those half guinea tokens in my coin collection. Same date, 1797. They were brass, but not (as I remember) gilded. They were known as Gaming Tokens, presumably used in some kind of gambling game.......?? Love your videos and look forward to them every week! Best.... Rod.

Another Fantastic Hunt. Worth going back a few times it seems. For the History side of it, I wonder if there were census or land claim records available at a local history museum. I have spent many hours going over old microfiche rolls searching old documents. Local Historic Societies have been very helpful. Who ever lived there may not have been wealthy by monetary means, but what you have found there has had a distinct sense of style and art form. The counterfeit coin itself has a story, but found where it was found someone lost twice. You're livin the life Mate. Congrats.

I would like to offer a suggestion . On you future excursions you might consider taking a few helpful items with you. 1. A bottle of alkaline water. Simply remove the cap from a bottle of drinking water and add 1-2 teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), screw the cap back on tightly, and shake until the sodium bicarbonate has dissolved completely. Mark your bottle somehow so that you don't drink it while you are in the field. It will not harm you if you do, but you are taking it to help clean the soil off of the objects you find. Why the baking soda? Most of the soil conditions around the New England are relatively acidic. Sodium bicarbonate has an alkaline pH of 8.4 therefore when put in contact with something acidic, like the soil where you are, by lowering the pH upon contact it will neutralize the acids on the surface of your object thus arresting any corrosive effect from acidity, which leads me to the next item. 2. A bottle of fresh drinking water to rinse off the alkaline water. Something too alkaline will also cause corrosion, so you want to bring the surface of your found object to a neutral pH of 7, and a final rinse in fresh water will do that. 3. A dry cloth to dry your object once it's been cleaned. 4. A soft bristled tooth brush. It makes me cringe when ever I see someone scrub the surface of a find with their thumbs. Archeologists do it too, it drives me crazy to watch it. It's like using sandpaper on the object. Use a soft toothbrush and the water you take. 5. A digital pocket scale to weigh your object in the field. This may help determine what sort of base component you have found. I thought this might help.

Only took me 3 years to find your videos and I love them! I'm commenting on the little spade piece with the hole in it that you found. I believe it could be what I call a "disposable stake" us trappers use them to stake down a trap with a peice of wire. You attach it to the trap, drive that device in the ground with a rod, and when an animal is caught and pulls, that device turns sideways in the ground and it won't pull up. The ones I use are much more simple and modern. This one looks old and awesome (guessing mid/late 1800s). But I'm a 95% sure on this. Good luck on future detecting, keep up the great videos!

New subscriber here and I just wanted to thank you for all the work you do posting these videos up for us guys and gals who can’t get out there and hunt anymore. You do a great job! My first find was with a 25 dollar Radio Shack detector and it was a 1945 Walking Liberty half dollar. I was hooked. I hunted with a Fisher CZ-6 detector back in the 80’s and 90’s until old military injuries caught up with me and made it too difficult to get out there anymore. Anyway, I’m in Ohio so we don’t have much colonial era stuff but I have good friends in Montpellier, VT and whenever I am out there I always wished I could still get out there because that’s where the old stuff is! At last I can make a contribution! (Well, maybe.) That little clip-like thing at 20:05 very much resembles the kinds of hooks that women used to close a skirt at the waist with, usually paired with a small square or rectangular bar-loop attached to the other end of the garment's opening; considering the weight of the cloth, they had to be very sturdy and were usually removed from an article of clothing when it became too badly worn to be useful anymore. Their lifespan as a useful clothing accessory could last many, many decades, and you can find them in many cultures-- some of the old Anglo Saxon ones used to clasp the cuffs on a tunic or dress were pretty ornate. Modern clothing occasionally uses the modern version, a little squarish steel sliding tab-and bar fastener.

My you are a busy fellow! The U shaped artifact was called a “jews-harp”. It was used in logging. A chain was looped around several logs in a bundle. The U was slipped around the chain. The ox team wore a yoke or “bow” with chains that ran back down either side to a spreader bar or “heel bar” that kept the chains under load from closing on the beasts legs. The spreader bar was turned from locust or bowdock with forged iron caps and rings to accept the trace chains. There was a round iron bar several inches long attached to the spreader in the center. The opposed claws of the jews harp allowed quick attachment of the log chain to the spreader, a dangerous move if the ox moved during hookup. More important though. The design you have found would release quickly if the logs and oxen began to roll on a cross slope pull. This was quite literally a man and ox killer of an accident. If memory serves it was an innovation of the mid-1800’s.
