I had a weird encounter with a hammerhead while I was digging in some deep tide pools for crabs. Some of the pools were insanely huge, but I assumed basically empty, and I was very surprised to get bumped by something. I popped my head up and heard a fisherman nearby scream "hammerhead!" I thought he was joking, but since something did bump me, I climbed back onto a sandbar. And then I saw the glorious thing, and I so regret this happening before camera phone days. It was just amazing. Best we could gage from the size of the tide pool and his size in it, was about 13 feet. He must have chased a fish in and gotten trapped at low tide. It was so awesome to see.

@kenjutsukata1o14 жыл бұрын
Tiger sharks can be very curious creatures, but unfortunately they investigate things by giving a bite. Nothing committed or serious, but more than enough to cause significant flesh wounds. Most tiger shark 'attacks' are the results of a tiger shark getting curious and taking a nibble. If the tigers were legit trying to attack the divers they would have been in deep trouble. Thankfully, tiger sharks are more curious than aggressive when it comes to people. A simple boop on the snout is enough to make them move away (like you saw in the video). The other species (the reef and the lemon) couldn't have cared less about the humans. Humans aren't a part of their diet so they couldn't be bothered. And they don't have the chomping investigation nature of the tiger. I honestly don't know much about hammerheads, but it almost seemed more like it was being territorial than it was genuinely attacking. They were also feeding it, so that probably made it a little more bold as well.

how does it not attack divers
@HBosse904 жыл бұрын
Most Interesting Troll the divers aren’t on the menu, sharks don’t eat people because they want to eat people. People get bit by accident when a shark mistakes then for something else, and 999/1000 times will spit the person right out. Of course that one bite is enough to do catastrophic damage, it’s nothing compared to what a shark could actually do if it was in some kind of feeding frenzy.
@omao49384 жыл бұрын
Most Interesting Troll Because they weren’t disturbing the sharks and because humans are not part of their diet. They just got close to the divers because Tiger Sharks are very curious shark species, if it was any other shark, they wouldn’t had pay attention to the divers.

That hammerhead - man! What kind of evolutionary madness?! It's eyes actually MIGRATED with the growth of its face forwards and outwards, instead of staying in the common place for eyes! I'm sure it must give it some kind of extra visual perception over a larger area than a normal shark's.

@chicomello32823 жыл бұрын
Yes. They have pretty much 190º field of view for each eye, and they meet at a 10º binocular area in front. This is only one of the natural selections: the head is also a hydrofoil wing, and the hammerhead changes the pitch on it's head to change directions and accelerate in turnings much faster than any other shark. It also has much more electric sensors.

Dude, this was one of the best Shark Videos i have ever watched!!!! I was feeding sharks myself 30 years ago on Maldives and had a Hammerhead once following our group, single one, about 4-5m (12-15feet) long, this one here is around 9-12feet but still a big one. We never see a hammerhead there so we got up two days later early morning at 05:00 driving to the outer Atoll, where it goes down to 3000m (9000feet) and voila, suddenly a shool of Hammerheads, smallest around 1m guarded by the olders around 2-3m about 50-60 of this great looking animals.. I am just loving Sharks, would love to see a great white one someday. seen a lot of TIgers and all kind of other Sharks, never ..imagine this, i am living in Thailand...a WhaleShark ...never :D :D :D ... Goooood job, even if i think its a bit crazy sitting with nothing in the back there in free space... i like to have a reef behind me ;)

No matter how many of these videos I see, I still freak out in the ocean if I go in over my waist. Years ago I came face to face with a massive shark here in NZ. It was chasing mullet along the wave I was trying to catch, but then it spun around and slowly moved towards me. I caught the wave and rode it on my belly to shore. It had the size and shape of a Great White and they frequent a gannet colony nearby and have killed people there (I can't be sure, but it was well over 2 meters, so probably was). Ever since then I have had an irrational fear of sharks. I still think they are awesome though and should not be killed for sport (i am not totally opposed to people hunting for food within reason, but despise trophy hunting for kicks). I took up skydiving instead of surfing. Crazy, but it is easier for me to throw myself out of a Cessna at 11,000 feet, than go in the ocean.

Over stimulates the electric field sensors, tickles. Saw small hammerheads a few times, 1 foot or so. Little suckers will charge you when wading around a reef. I remember when I was at Mexico beach Florida, (close to panama) I was really little and my dad was fishing on the beach, he wound up catching a baby hammerhead shark and at the time I had a obsession with sharks so when I saw it I was amazed, I wound up holding it and then I let it go

Aren’t you not supposed to feed the sharks?…hence why they always follow boats now because they were reinforced humans give them food? Which makes them leave normal migration routes and also makes them dependent on us?

A friend of mine asked me to go with him to "swim with sharks". Sadly, I was out of town during that time. I remember now, I took the 3:15 out of Nopesville, on my way to Effthatastan.

I love sharks and would love to do what you guys do, but big open waters make me uncomfortable lol. If I ever get the chance though, diving with great whites is a dream of mine and I'll just have to commit to it haha. That said, fantastic work and thank you so much for this beautiful video!

This was a fantastic dive, a tiger shark approaching and biting the way they were would have been terrifying for most people that takes composure to not become overwhelmed by fear.
