SHIELD: You dont use Shield except in case of extreme emergency on a tank (the loss of rage = loss of threat), you dont waste it on casters except if you can predict a damage on the char, otherwise you will go oom asap as since shield is the least mana efficient healing we have. TALENTS: Improved renew is usually just one priest per raid, since there can only be one renew on a char at time. Healing focus on the other hand is more or less a must have. Its not a very efficient talent since it only applies to base healing. SHADOWWEAVING: Is more efficiantly applied with swp rank 1, not mindflay, then reapplied with MB. due to the range difference in the spells. (30 vs 20).

Just want to add for anyone reading - shield is often useful to put on the tank just BEFORE combat starts, as you can regen that mana either by drinking or simply not casting until the tank has taken damage. It's also generally useful for pulling in spellcleave leveling etc

Hes right about the shadoweaving in some cases as swp takes up a debuff slot on the enemy which could be used for a much more powerfull spell, it all depends on the raid and what everyone decides on

As someone who's raided as a vanilla shadow priest, I much prefer running classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/priest/A8rByQAFz8hPE0A This spec allows you to try and proc Spirit Tap on adds on fights (Onyxia whelps, Nefarian adds/totems Horde side, C'thun tentacles). 5/5 Improved Mind Blast isn't needed. You want to line it up so that with your latency, you can cast Mindflay x2 followed by a Mind Blast, but the longer the fights, the less MB you will cast. Also, if you're running Vampiric Embrace on a fight, you best be talented into threat reduction. For AQ20/40, a few talents can get swapped around for fights that require Mana Burn classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/priest/A8rBxwAFz8hPE0A Same deal, slightly more cast on your instants (SW:Pain) but will bring more use to your raid. Blackout is essentially useless in a raid situation. Some use in dungeons, but overall not worth it over Spirit Tap for PvE.

Priests use Heal for the vast majority of their healing in raids. PW:S is garbage unless it’s going to save someone from death from predictable damage (Geddon). Renew sucks because someone else will cast it and overwrote your buff. Flash Heal is almost half as mama efficient as Heal, and Gheal is too much healing 90% of the time.

troll priest got the highest healing per sec in 10sec ( ZG trinket>demonic rune > beserking) is a -70% cast time for 10 sec combo. you pump any tank up for that 10sec or AOE heal the whole team

Probably one of the more well-informed priest guides I've seen so far. Nice job. I have some constructive criticism if you're open to it. Looks like other people pointed out the desperate prayer error. First, for MT healing, an explanation of cancel healing (or whatever you want to call it) and why and when to use it might help some players be a little more well-rounded. Second, I'm curious why you went 5/5 in Improved MB, since 4/5 is the most you need in a spell rotation with MF being a 3 second channel. 5/5 gives you a 5.5 sec cooldown on MB, which is a waste when casting back to back MFs. Also, 5/5 in Shadow focus puts you over the hit cap, which makes a negligible difference in raid DPS. At most, it should be 4/5, but ideally 3/5 since that puts you at the cap. 4/5 Imp MB and 4/5 Shadow Focus frees up two points to max out Mental Agility. Personally I go with 3/5 Imp MB and 3/5 Shadow Focus, which frees up the points to max Mental Agility and two points to put into Shadow Affinity (or one point each in Wand Spec and Imp VE for the hell of it). Third, I've always thought Holy Nova was fun, but a gimmicky waste. Also, if you're not going 2/2 in Holy Reach, you might as well go 0/2 and put the point from there and Holy Nova into 2/2 Healing Focus, but I suppose that's all a matter of preference. If you really want Holy Reach, then get Holy Nova, and go 1/3 in Imp Renew (that might reduce your overheals a little) so you can get 2/2 in Holy Reach, but I really think Healing Focus is much more valuable. Divine Fury is also a talent that you can get away with 3/5 in since it really only applies to Greater Heals - a spell you only use in limited situations and the less you spec in Divine Fury, the bigger the heal. I'd like to see you go more in depth about specs, spell rotations, downranking, more specific healing roles, how to keep from overhealing, and gear. Specifically Spirit vs mp5 and when to use each.

Good point! I think threat management is a guide by itself, but the 5 second rule is something that can be brought up. However, waiting 5 seconds for Regen while in the middle of a fight isn't so much of a "thing" as it was back in the day. This is simply because people know how to gear properly and play properly. Meaning bosses die significantly quicker. But still a good point!

I wonder what happened to the „5 second rule”, as of setting up between healing team in the raid windows of opportunity for higher mana regeneration to kick in. At one point it was quite a thing, benefitting priests the most due to their high spirit stats. Pre-casting GH and interrupting it if tank is ok also helped in getting those high mana regeneration windows.

Power word shield is not used nearly as much as you say for two reasons. It is not mana efficient to use, heals are generally much better. Secondly, a lot of tanks dislike being power word shielded since they don't get rage on hits that were absorbed by power word shield. I don't know if this is true for raids since tanks seem to might as well get unlimited rage during raid fights due to the amount of damage, but I assume that the priest would rather just use heal instead due to the mana involved, unless there was no other choice.

Shadow: Improved Mind Blast is not needed for PvE, costs too much mana and it has additional threat. Also when playing Shadow PvE you shouldn't take Improved Fortitude and PW:S, that's Healer Duty. Reduced threat and Improved Mana Burn are far better.

I always roll tailoring but how does one get engineering and tailoring? Mining/ engineering to level and then drop mining and level tailoring? I kinda always liked being able to craft clothes while leveling.

You should take Tailoring and a gathering profession such as Mining or Herbalism. Tailoring is easy and gives you access to making some great pieces along the way. This makes it appropriate to have while levelling. Gathering gives you additional income as you level. This will help you with affording mounts and training. Engineering is not required for the levelling experience whatsoever and is just for optimal PVP/raiding. You can go through Gnomish + Goblin engineering later when you have little else to spend money on. Tailoring is worth holding onto even after you pick up Engineering as it allows you to make the Bloodvine set as well as Glacial. Priests suck at competing with stealth classes for gathering. Don't make the same mistake I did dropping tailoring for that. You'll find yourself just wanting to go back to Tailoring.

It was long time ago since i played wow,,there was NO wowhead, and items that where worn by top players where not even listed on thottbot,,, Aaanyways, my friend rolled a fat dorf priest, and he was wearing greens items with +healing. Thing is about item bonuses back then is that u get certain % of +healing and damage u get from the,, the more the ,,shinier,, the item,less bonus u would get.It s not that u get actually what is wrtten on,,xample +100 healing on epic item would give u 50%- 70% of + bonus to +heal or damage,, BUT green items, would give u i think entire or 90% of +healing/spell bonus.Donno if thats how it works on pirate servers tho... So +healing wands and green items like that where regularly swaped in raids,to boost that healing,,epics where just to show off in IF =P English is not my first langueage,so i hope this makes some sence,, anyways greeting from Croatia (=...

I am going to level as a holy/disc priest. It's very slow (compaired to shadow) but you learn alot along the way about rotations ect. that become 2nd nature. It also keeps all your weapon and defense skill up. Thats how i levled in vanila wow with my priest so going to do it agin :) . I am not in hurry to get to 60 in classic wow anyway becouse its all about the journey.

Nice video. A bit offtopic question: is it worth it to create a character just for farming? I'm thinking of making main rogue and alt frost mage to AOE farm, but I'm not sure if time spent on leveling mage pay off. So far I estimated my leveling to 60 in 10-12 days played time (around 2-3 month in real life). My upper bound in gold need is equal to 100 arcanite bars (Thunderfury is my dream, though I seriously doubt I can get anywhere close to it). Maybe just get lvl35 with alchemy/tailoring to sell CD's or don't even bother and farm with rogue main?

As a rogue I highly highly highly doubt you will get thunderfury. It'd go to 2 or 3 tanks before a rogue unless you bribe some corrupt officer. However to answer your question, people level mages quite often as their farming alt.

Improved renew is almost useless except for one priest (a human if you are alliance) on maexxna in naxxramas. While healing focus is one of the most important talents in the whole holy tree. You are also skipping the human racial +5% spirit, which trumps fear ward on every fight in the game except 4. 3 of which are in the starter raids, and not really that important as it is easy to do the fights without it.

Youre truely dense if you think 5% BASE spirit is better than fear ward, the human spirit does not stack with gear.

Axel Kriborg did I say it makes a huge difference? None of the priest racials makes a huge difference in pve. Fear ward does nothing for you at all in fights that do not have the fear mechanism (which is most of the fights). Someone will play dwarf for the looks or whatever (usually the insecure newbies, that think that they will not be able to raid unless they have fear ward) so there is no real reason to gimp yourself and play dwarf if you do want to play as a priest but so not like the race. Mathematically human has the strongest racial in pve. You can’t really argue against that unless you are in the kind of guild that struggle on bosses like magmadar and onyxia. Remember that the wast majority of the people that will play classic will not play the game to compete in speed runs of Molten Core and BWL, which is the only argument at all for saying that dwarf has better pve racials than humans.

@@mr.voidroy6869 It does not, also mp5 is in 99,9% of the cases better to stack than spirit. Its really underwhelming when you compare it to fear ward. Even if theres "only" 4 bosses that requires fear ward, thats 4 bosses a week that gets easier, cause youll be farming them for ages. Also theres countless amount of trashpacks that iun many cases (such as AQ40) are just as hard as some of the bosses, where fear ward is huge. Just play dwarf.

Human priest dude, racial +spirit. Also never power word shield the tank! They can not generate rage while shielded! And also you increase aggro generation when you shield the tank... And you forgot down-ranking.
