MASSIVE MATCH! Previewing Liverpool Away to Tottenham

This is honestly the FIRST time this season when I've been nervous pre match. Every single other game, I've been fully confident that we aren't in danger of being beaten. Actually, I lie. I had the same feeling against Newcastle and the league game against Southampton because we were far too overconfident. The impact that Konate being injured makes has been completely dismissed. He's been our best defender this season by a mile. Virgil controls the line, but Konate has been by far the best defender, and that's being proven since he's been out. We've conceded 6 goals in the 4 games he's missed. We had conceded 6 goals in 10 games before he got injured. 6 goals conceded in FOUR without.... six conceded in TEN with. That's a HUGE difference. It's no coincidence either. I really rate Gomez, I think he's underrated, actually, but Konate is a phenomenal defender. His ability to cover full backs and win duels cuts out most attacks before they become dangerous. He enters duels and wins them. Virgil tends to stand off and jockey, so he isn't beaten 1v1, but he allows attackers to pass, and the attack continues. Ibu just smashes in there, and the attack is over. Virgil has had such a good season because of Konate, in my opinion. Because Konate has that real hunger to defend, it allows Virgil to do what he's good at. There was an example in a game a few weeks ago, but I can't mind who against. Trent was in trouble and got skinned, and Konate absolutely bust a gut to get back at full speed, maximum effort. He was NOT allowing a goal. So yeah, he managed to get there in time and made the tackle and prevented a goal, saved Trent's blushes as well. The EXACT same scenario happened on the opposite side with Robbo, Virgil was in the same position as Konate in the previous scenario, Robbo got skinned just as Trent did, but Virgil was just jogging back with absolutely ZERO effort. Literally as if he was jogging in the park. Robbo got skinned and the opposition scored! You know what game it was.... It was the arsenal game. It was Saka that beat Robbo and scored. Other side it was Martinelli I think. Anyway, to me, that was a MASSIVE moment. It showed to me that Konate is the one who's actually made us so solid defensively this season. People always say we rely on Virgil and Salah, and "If Liverpool lost Virgil Van Dijk to injury, that's when they'd be in huge trouble." I think that's backwards. It's Konate, that's the most important one in my opinion. Anyone wants to disagree because i dared to say that about VVD, explain to me why we've been so weak defensively in the last 4 games WHEN HE'S BEEN PLAYING???? How come we've conceded so many... he's still in the starting 11🤔. In short, my point is that Ibu is our best defender now, and I'll go as far as saying thay him being injured, has a FAR bigger impact than any other player right now. That includes Salah btw! We've survived without him every time he goes to AFCON. Won every game when he goes after being told we're a mid table team without Salah😂 yet we've never lost without him and still score plenty. The sooner big Ibu is back, the better.

Please. Don't be too negative. Did you think at the beginning of the season Liverpool would do so good? I'm Dutch and I said that Slot is the best manager I've seen. But I also predicted Liverpool will be in the top 3 of the Premiership. So don't worry. If Liverpool won't win the Premiership this season, they sure will win it next season. Have patience my friend. I’m wondering if Wataru surprised Slott so much against Southampton, that he puts him in at centre back instead, and Gomez over at left back. We’ve all seen it: Robertson has been a liability recently, and much as I love the guy, going on form, and the apparent energy, discipline and intelligence shown by Endo, he might feel it is the best move to reward that form. It is strange to say, and it almost pains me to do so, but I think I’d be more comfortable with that set up against Spurs than with your prediction (no offence). Endo is a warrior; we’ll be needing that.

Not saying it will happen, but what if the backline is: TAA, Endo, VVD, Gomez ?? Slot could do something a bit more counter-attacking. Our League Cup game against Southampton (especially 2nd half) seemed to revert to a back 3 with Endo taking up the DM position. It should be a spectacular game, especially as the last EPL fixture before Christmas and the first return to the "Good process" b.s. of 2024.

I would say just use a 442 with Salah and Jota upfront and Liverpool should score quite a few. Then bring on Diaz. The important thing is to have 4 in midfield instead of just 3.

My fear is that without Konate, we're extremely soft through the middle. He's the rock. Virgil is a better player on the ball, but Ibu is the better defender by a long shot imo. Without him, Virgil is exposed. I worry that Son and their quick players will get a lot of joy in behind without Konate beating every single forward to the ball when it's played in behind. Honestly, the amount of attacks he ends by just beating a winger to a through ball is crazy, and it's being exposed now.

@@AllRedShow he's more interested in jockeying and not being beaten than he is stopping an attack. Phenomenal player, but if i could have a couple of criticisms, it's that he is too calm like you say. Rarely do you see him busting a gut to get back with pure hunger. The other would be that he's extremely prone to capitulating and hiding, shying away and being too soft. We've been demolished a lot of times he's been playing. He NEEDS a Matip or a Konate next him to shine, otherwise he falls apart a LOT.

I don't blame Quansah whatsoever for his form. The blame fully lies with Slot on this one. A young CB being hooked off and an example made of him embarrassed and destroyed the confidence that he oozed last season, when he was first choice over Konate. Slot has got almost 100% of his big decisions correct so far, but the Quansah man management has been extremely poor. He's taken a 21 year old off at half time, which is the most embarrassing thing a footballer can experience on the pitch. He told the world straight up he wasn't good enough (true but not productive, it's caused a massive negative.) As if the lads confidence wasn't already decimated, he goes and chucks him in at RB against Anthony Gordon🤔 I mean if you could make a plan to destroy a youngsters confidence, this is exactly the plan you'd put together🤣. Brutally bad. Quansah now goes on the pitch absolutely terrified to make mistakes for fear of being hooked off and embarrassed again. We've praised Slot on everything so far, and rightly so, but his handling of Quansah has been terrible. Ps. The decision to take Quansah off was ruthless, BUT it was correct. My point is that he could have gone about it a completely different way and protected Quansah, rather than publicly embarrassing him like that.

I hear you. But the same could be said about how he’s transformed Konate into one of the top CBs in world football. It goes both ways. If slot believes in Q he’ll help him grow through this. He’s not just a tactics guy he makes individual players better at their craft.

@AllRedShow every other decision he's made since he's arrived has been bang on the money. Nearly every player has improved or looked more controlled and assured. As I say, the ONLY thing I think he's got badly wrong is the man management of Jarell. As I said as well, the half time sub was the correct decision. It can't be denied that his whole handling of the lad has destroyed his confidence and form though. He's managed Trent, Salah, Gakpo and Diaz, Grav, Ibu, Jones etc PERFECTLY.
