For sake of new construction, I dropped the second largest Walnut tree in Ft. Worth Texas, early eighties. I had to remove one giant limb on the backside to fell it the other way. The tree was so beautifully perfect that I hated knocking it down, but when she went, it was amazing. It was almost all wood, prehistoric.

Beginning of winter I had a notch in a big cottonwood and the excavator guy got a little frisky when I was putting in the back cut, pushed too soon and the tree really lurched when it broke a huge hinge, the shudder that went up the trunk broke out a good size branch, almost floored me when it bounced of my old Mcdonald ...always have a signal for the nudge..your the boss not the stick flipper in the cab.

Why are so many trees in this area so unhealthy? Was there some sort of extended flooding problem over the years, or is it mostly infestation?

@@wes827 actually cotton wood is a hard wood, does produce pretty good heat, but takes 2 years to fully cure, they get fucking massive. Same with willows, elms, maples. At least here in metro Detroit area. When I bought my 880 sthil said I was the first person to order one in metro Detroit and my dealer said wtf r u cutting down? Redwoods? I laughed and said apparently u don't pay attention to how massive the trees r in the suburbs... when ur 59" bar won't make it threw a tree in 1 swipe, it's a fucking big ass tree... can't tell ya how many times customers r like Jesus that a massive saw r u sure u need one that big?
