I agree, we have to teach people how to accurately approach sirens/situations, you pull over/stop for ambulance and firetrucks, you avoid police officers (especially when giving chase). Some cases you might pull over and stop, other cases you speed up to avoid it. I think there is a greater chance getting struck by lightning 3 times in your life than you getting a speeding ticket for speeding forward to give officers the space they need when doing pit maneuvers and chases.

I'm not saying the police were incompetent... but normally, one pit maneuver and two police cars would be enough. He sure was crazy, but he was one heck of a driver in an old Saturn that should have been disabled after the first pit maneuver. He drove off the road and didn't get bogged down in the ditches, either. Do you think you could have driven like that and got away with it?

They did their job to protect the public. They realized that they caught an ill insane individual. I think the system worked in this case and nobody had to die. One could argue the ethnics of keeping the guy alive in a facility instead of putting him out of his misery when they had the legal chance; but in a society that claims to hold all human life sacred with rights this man needs to be kindly institutionalized in a facility where he cannot hurt anyone and not be killed. The outcome is acceptable.

also, acquittal due to mental illness doesn’t mean you walk free. if you’re found NGRI (not guilty by reason of insanity) you essentially get locked up in an institution for the rest of your life.

Care in the community doesn't work. While someone like that is free to walk the streets no one is safe. This puts the lives of the officers and members of the public at grave risk.🤬

And that fellow viewers is why I left corrections, I don't care what is going on inside a persons head ( I have had a head injury myself and the brain does so wierd stuff) I worked corrections for 11 years and watched inmates work the system. If they know they are going to be in the system, it's pretty easy accutally. It also doesn't matter if every officer stacks thsi incident with multiple felonies (all that matters is what the D.A and the defense decide to do). In the end, all this guy has to do is cry "they enough times" and he more or less doesn't go to prison. TRU unit and get physc meds. Repeat Offender after all those years because he should have never have been let out.
