I don’t know arguments might ensue. Kyle is really strict on arriving to little to no charge left and Kathy doesn’t like to risk it. Road tripping for as long as Kyle likes to do can be very tedious and stressful which in turn can make people more nervous and tired. Kyle might give a little out of respect for his mother but I don’t know. Nobody really knows these two people that well. I wouldn’t want to see a major disagreement between them on stream.

Always enjoy your road trips. Could you say something about the ride quality in the X compared to Kathy's Y? Tesla gave me six months FSD on my 2023 X because it wasn't available when I first got it. I really liked it on road trips. It navigated through heavy Chicago Interstate traffic at night in the rain better than I could. I am anxious to try the new version of FSD because I didn't like the old one on city streets, and might be willing to pay the new $99/month if it works well. So far I have never had phantom braking in my X. Knock on wood. I just added a key fob to my X and really like the ability to close and lock everything with one push of a button. Rear passengers always have issues closing the doors when exiting. The fob fixes that.

Pack voltage is very low when the car is at low state of charge. Which limits the amps it will take. I learned that from Kyle.
@Kangenpower75 ай бұрын
Well actually the amps is limited to 400 amps at many chargers. So if the pack voltage is only 360 volts X 400 amps, then the KW is limit is 144 KW, (360V X 400A) while at 400 volts X 400 amps, then the limit is 160 KW. Many chargers will allow more than 400 amps. Of course the battery management will also limit the amps on a very low pack, so it is not slammed with a lot of power at a low state of charge.

Dave- Kyle should write a book about Tesla for dummies - I see you're navigating to the next supercharger and it pre conditioned for you. I never did that on my last roadtrip. I put in Dallas to Lincoln and it had me stop 5 times in 650miles -- it took so long at each stop I finally traded it in. Wish I knew a faster way to make this trip. Tesla should've showed me but after losing 24k on my trade I'll probably be with Rav4 until the charging is faster and range is longer
@johnpoldo88175 ай бұрын
For long road trips I always use ABRP which is now owned by Rivian. On a sliding scale, you can select minimal number of stops vs fastest time to destination. It works really well and free. I use the Tesla gps for preconditioning and to navigate between chargers. Multiple trips between SW Florida and Boston were very easy.

Dave, you should not top charge and let it sit overnight. It would have been better to stop at 90% for overnight then take in the last 10% while you grab breakfast in the hotel. That way you leave with a warm pack and you burn off the top 10% without much damage to the cells.

I do think the BMS protects the car when SOC is that low. Lowest SOC I have hit with 2023 MYLR is 6% and the car notified me when I arrived at home to plug in immediately. I also don't understand why the charging and navigation systems says you can continue your trip at a certain SOC say 58% with arrival SOC being say 10% knowing that higher speeds which everyone travels will result in real world SOC at arrival something below 10%, say 6%. So I also charge until I see arrival SOC at 20% or better to ensure I have enough buffer to compensate for traveling at higher speeds. I have also notice a number of times where my arrival SOC will drop dramatically when I leave a supercharger within the first 20 minutes of the drive. Then it will level off and maybe even gain a percent or two. At that point I am usually confident that will be the real arrival SOC excluding some unforeseen environmental factor like high winds, rain, snow, etc.
