I have two sisters living in San Francisco. One has a lot of family there and it's apparently cheap to live there because of the odd property tax rules. It's hard to leave family and friends after having lived in a place for so long. We live in a place with far lower cost of living, low taxation and low climate risk. I think that there's some powerful reasons people live in California but I don't really understand them that well.

Thank's TK!! I'm 71 years old. I remember pushing my 1969 V,W. to the gas pump during the oil embargo's of the 1970's. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I filled both cars before I finished watching this video.

That would be a terrible choice for TK. He uses a truck to tow and you should assume a 50% reduction in range with an EV while towing. Think about the numbers. Assume 300 miles range starting at 100% charge. Towing drops that to 150 miles. Plan a 30% lower limit of battery usage and you are at 150 miles x 0.7 or 105 miles before needing a charging stop. Then since you usually only fast charge to 80% the next leg is 50% of your lowered range or 75 miles. Good luck doing a cross-country towing with an EV truck.

@@michaelmackey754 You are the one that should do the reasearch. A Rivian employee towed a classic car from one side of the country to the other and had to stop every 100 miles to charge. God help the guy towing when temperature are freezing all that distance. Sure if you tow a 500lb featherweight trailer it is better. But more weight equals more energy use- physics no matter what drives the truck gas or electric. An electric motor doesn't change the laws of physics, sorry.

I wouldn't think its a problem for Las Vegas/southern NV or western AZ as the Southern California refineries are not in the fire zones. The pipelines out to Las Vegas go through the suburban flatlands of the Los Angeles Basin and through the mountains via the Cajon Pass (north of San Bernardino) and the fires are not even close to those areas (unless power gets shut down for the pumping stations along the way). There's another wind event today (Friday Jan 10, 2025) so who knows what will happen. Let's hope its just a rumor.
