First, let me say I am an All-Stars man for life and I respect and appreciate everything Leon Smooth Edwards has done for All-Stars and the pan fraternity at large. I advocate for Mr. Smooth to receive a Doctorate for his work as an arranger which is long overdue. That said, I am very disappointed in this year’s “Stage on Fire” contribution. I get the feeling Mr. Smooth gives us two good years and one bad and unfortunately this is the bad year. 2019 and 2020 were both winners and All-Stars were robbed the victory in both years. This tune, however, sounds like a rehash of “Lightening Flash” and unfortunately you cannot turn that into a winner like “Curry Tabanca”. I hope this is a blip on the scale of spectacular arrangements done by Mr. Smooth and it is not time to hand over the arranging duties to someone else, or maybe it is. Mr. Leon Smooth Edwards has had the most wins with a single band and that is a boundless achievement. I think this was a golden opportunity to give Trinidad and Tobago one of the best ever and maybe have a request for an encore like Mr. Eddie Quarless got with his outstanding arrangement of “Dust in Dey Face” in 1993 The choice of songs was open this year for the Large Bands to choose from and the best All Stars could muster is a deadbeat “Stage on Fire”. At least one thing All Stars can bargain on is the band is as precise and tightly drilled with all their renditions and for that, they will get the judge’s nod.

Last Year All Stars were different (fresh arrangement and enjoyable to non-fans). This year, I thought Smooth would've used that refreshing formula..."Feeling to Party" was definitely down their alley!
