A beautiful old hutch or armoire would add a lot of warmth and character, and seasonal decorating opportunities ☺️ Maybe a leaning floor mirror for the other wall with a lamp and piece of art? Or a gallery wall. Or a photo ledge so you could switch pieces around. Keep us updated 💞

Hi Rachel. What a pretty bedroom. Inlove your headboard. The cutout space would be pretty with greenery that hangs down with badkets and or pottery. Maybe a wooden ladder. You could do a gallery wall on that one wall. Maybe a desk. Even hats on a wall. I am sure you will come up with something. You will make it cozy and lovely like the rest of your home. The space between the doors, I'd put a smallish dresser. I didn't see one in your bedroom now. If you think it would be too deep, you could put a bookcase. They can be only about 12". I like having some books in my bedroom, because I always read at bedtime to help me relax. I don't have that recessed space over the doors, but I have been jealous seeing what other people do with theirs. I especially like to see vintage or antique suitcases up there. I've also seen random decorator stuff...glass bottles, picnic baskets, books, jars with collections in them. I would put some of my favorite large seashells. Really, anything you collect can be showcased up there. Oh, and plants, probably fake so you don't have to water them. I love your attitude and your style. You'll think of something or come across an idea while thrifting.

On the cut outs, I’d put something that you could dust easily with a long handled duster…..maybe large tall bottles or vases, or possibly some large baskets. On the blank walk, how about a thin bookcase (mounted to the wall, of course for safety sake) ….either just big enough for hard back books or even paperbacks, since you and family love books. Then above, maybe a few or even one large painting or print in a beautiful frame.

What a lovely tour. Thank you so much for sharing. That wall style was very popular in the 90s. We live in a home that has it in the master also. It's used for decorative purposes. But in my old house we finished it off with doors and used it for storage!

I also have a space between my bathroom door and my closet door in my bedroom. I like to hang vintage embroidered cloth calendars from the 1970s that I inherited from my mom on the wall (one at a time, of course). I also placed an upholstered bench seat there so that I could tie my shoes. In Nov-Dec I put a 6-foot slim rose gold Christmas tree there (I temporarily more the bench seat) and then I decorate it with a few vintage Shiny Brite Christmas ornaments.

I like bedrooms to be tranquil and uncluttered like yours. I don't like tvs in bedrooms, nor exercise equipment or wardrobes over stuffed with clothes. I like a sturdy bedside table with good storage, bedside lighting for reading at night, good ventilation and carpet underfoot. In past 10 years I've slowly replaced sheets, pillows, mattress cover and doona with natural fibres the best I can afford, a worthwhile investment. I really enjoy your channel. Keeping with your blue theme I would look for three large pieces of pottery of varying sizes with blue and white Chinese patterns for your shelf. Just one focus spot to draw the eye. And once a year you dust it😀. I also like Hilary’s mirror idea.

Those "cutouts" are there as an architecture feature and also to decorate. My mother had them in here home, she used faux plants and she also changed it out to big blue and white pottery or big baskets. It was always nice to see her collections displayed

I am not an expert but I have been to other homes to organize & clean that also have “cut outs” & most people use that spaces for decor such as urns, glass bottles, vases, faux greenery, etc. A small house I have been to with cut outs has cloth containers that she stirs various craft items in each container.

The cutouts we're popular in homes built in the mid1990s. I've seen faux greenery, antique baskets, quilts, etc. For blank wall a quilt find or vintage linens such as pillowcases, etc in blues and whites hanging from a quilt rack/shelf combo would look pretty too. What's you end up doing will look beautiful!

Rachel, I love your big master bedroom! I very much love what you have right now. I recommend thin baskets and soft greener for the cutout areas up high. Nothing feels as cozy as the texture of baskets and greenery. You definitely need a desk. Something that looks like a writing desk but can function for some crafting too. Straw hats make a lovely statement for a wall and so fun to collect! (Think Anne of Green Gables style) I can see it all coming together in my mind’s eye!✨❤️✨

I visited at someone's home once, and she had those cut-outs in her bedroom wall. She laid some strings of clear Christmas lights on them, and the lights gave the room a beautiful cozy ambiance when she turned them on at night. Great video!

I think your cutouts could be used for vintage things that make you happy and seasonal flowers & greenery! Maybe create a "theme" of some sorts for each Season ( Winter, Spring, Sumner, Fall). Create a picture gallery of you & hubby or happy places you have been. So maybe possibilities! Have fun decorating & creating!! 😊❤👍

I remember that we had a cutout like those in one of the houses I lived in as a child. My mom used faux greenery and pottery to decorate it. I think you could also add a larger piece of artwork leaned against the wall as a backdrop for pieces like that, as well as larger candlesticks with candles as decor pieces. An old washboard would be neat, too.

Your bedroom colors are so very restful! The side table is adorable. I have only noticed one home with the recessed wall space. My friend put large antique pieces there. A cradle, large old woven laundry basket , larger antique toys. Don't know why the space was there but that is how she handled it.

I have the same type of rice heat pack and have used it many times! Your bedroom is a perfect almost-blank slate. Perhaps a gallery wall would work in the space between the bedroom and bathroom doors, since you're not sure about putting furniture there. I've seen the cutouts in other homes before and some people put greenery, others stack decorative boxes on them (which you can also fill with out-of-season decor or clothing if you'd wish.)

I have the same cut outs in my room as well and the same iron lol. I have a sweet vinyet of 2 old milk cans that an artist painted beautiful sceneries on for me they look lovely. Rachel a nice mirror on that wall would look lovely and mirrors also make a space look bigger. You have a great suite where you can even have two cozy chair and a lamp to read. I would keep shelves out. Also a nice art section on that wall would look great. That is how I have my room and it is my little retreat very soothing and cozy

I just moved to a home with similar cutouts in the bedroom. I’m not adding anything to them as they are too high to dust regularly, and I don’t really want to draw attention that high on the wall with any kind of decor. I may have them drywalled over eventually.
