Estimat Mestre Joan, I have become a huge fan of SAJB, not only because of its excellence, but also because it reminds me of my youth so many, many years ago. I began playing jazz trombone in 1954 under the direction of a wonderful teacher who was lovingly called "The Chief" (El Cap") by students and admirers. Through fate and good fortune, I played in that high school jazz band for 12 years! We played many of the same tunes you play, and we were accompanied by many visiting professionals who graced our town - I remember Gene Krupa, the great American jazz drummer, sitting in with the band, like it was yesterday. El Cap developed many fine musicians who became professionals and educators. I will continue to listen to and follow SAJB as long as you keep issuing its music. And I will recall my playing days of long ago. Thanks for your work.

Joan Chamorro speaks with such passion, I'd love to hear a translation of his talks. My high school Spanish is barely helping me catch every 5th or 6th word. Joan is a wonderful teacher.

I agree. Even if we understood every word, every sentence, we'd still need to understand all the inflection & nuance. But his students seems to benefit and then they play and sing and we all benefit.

Very nice video quality, although the sound could be better. But still, very nice. It's always nice to hear Joan expound on his theories about musical education, he's very innovative (obviously!). I hope there will be a high quality version of "Yard Bird Suite" with Alba singing released in the future, she sounds great, as always. And it's nice to see everyone in the Canary Islands dress code -- it looks like they're having fun!

Fab as always! my only comment is the acoustics in this big room has a lot of echo/reverb compared to the smaller tighter room used in the past. Makes it a bit difficult to focus on the music. Its the room not the musicians :) but I would still listen even if they were playing underwater. Also is Joan multilingual ?

@@robertvanruyssevelt7159 Thanks, makes sense he doesn't use English in the Master Classes, I have some friends who can hopefully translate for monolingual fans like me. PS: I googled your name and NZ is mentioned, is this you? I grew up there.

@@flabberghast7908 Oui c'est moi. The different room here is a masterclass done on a trip to the Canary Islands, whereas studio recordings are at Joan's home in a room which has had some acoustic baffling etc.

He certainly can, and good at all... but I doubt the attendants of this master class might take much benefit from the class. This trip to the island of Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain, was sponsored to hold such classes and some concerts, and after all it is spanish territory. After stating this much, I also have to admit, that for me, like for you and many many internet people around the globe, it would be the icing on the cake, and we would be able to take more from this performances if they were narrated in english, french, german or italian....
@bosybrandthansen42363 жыл бұрын
Hi @@AlpineKris, All masterclasses at Jamorro's Jazzing Festival 2020 in Sant Andreu were held in English or translated into English by a competent interpreter. The se masterclasses were also transmitted live online. A comprehensive Anniversary Book, available in English too, covering the first 15 years of Sant Andreu Jazz Band's history, will be released in 2021. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the great 2012 documentary "A Film About Kids and Music. Sant Andreu Jazz Band" is available with English subtitles at jazztojazz.com/en/product/a-film-about-kids-music-en/
