I met the wonderful Clark Terry under the most unfortunate of circumstances. My dad, a jazz drummer, took me to the funeral of the great vibes player/pianist Eddie Costa whose life was tragically cut short in 1962 in an auto accident. My dad introduced me to Clark after the funeral and he was the warmest, kindest person I ever met. I'm an old guy now and I play drums to just about every album Clark ever cut. God Bless CT!

One of many legendary jazz guys that spent a lifetime teaching clinics and classes to younger musicians to pass the torch. I remember, the Wichita Jazz fest over 40 years ago, explaining circular breathing, which I never mastered. The double and tripling tonguing techniques are still appreciated by the wife. 😳

It's the wee hours of the morning and I'm smiling like an idiot as I watch this video. How can you not smile at this video and a man who has a love of music and the universe the way he does[here]. He probably schooled The Big Guy on that flat 5,lol. He's always going to be with us in audio and video recordings. Rest in peace, Mr. Mumbles and thanks for the memories.

Clark, you were the greatest of all the wonderfull trumpetplayers of the world. I was happy to meet you in Copenhagen where we made you member of honour in The Danish Trumpet Guild together with Maurice André. To greates in two different worlds, but very much like each other in perfection of your goals. Thank you from all of my heart. Peter Madsen

A wonderful human being and I've never met a finer musician. I got to do a phone interview for a TRUMPET COLLOQUIUM feature I penned for Jazz Times some years ago (along with Ron Miles, Terence Blanchard and Doc Cheatham) and Clark was generous, funny and totally inspiring. I learned more about the trumpet in one half hour with Clark than I have in a lifetime of listening. Hell, I even went out and bought a trumpet. A great man and the Johnny Hodges of the trumpet--total ease and mastery.

94th birthday- Dec 14, 2014 Mike Vax arranged a birthday bash for CT at Clark's home. Lots of musicians came to pay tribute and blow up a storm. CT gave us a few bars of scat to show he can still swing.

If Clark Terry had played any other instrument, he would have still been a genius with it. What he had was a fascination with the effect he could get by being a little clever. I'm glad he played trumpet but that musical intellect can go anywhere! Also, you can't deny his engaging personality. People just LOVED him!
