Thank you for explaining the fine gold recovery method. Now the process makes since to me. I am running my sluice way to fast even though I fed it steady and consistent. I really didn’t understand the flow rate but I do now. I will rerun my concentration over the next couple of days making adjustments for the flow rate and remove the turbulence that is apparent in my sluice system from Gold Hog and their mat structure. What kind of miners moss should I use, unpacked or backed? Thank you so much for showing me the errors that I have been making. I have viewed this video now three times before I found my mistakes. Great knowledge and instruction.

I use the unbacked type. So long as it sits flush against the bottom of the sluice, it should not matter much.

Well done Chris !! You covered all the major (and critical) topics for fine gold recovery. Additionally, I have learned the material flow rate over the sluice should be about 1 ft./sec. Ideally, the water height over the riffles should about 1/4 inch. Any sluice set up half way decent can catch nuggets, however, the real challenge are the fines, which are in abundance. Hope many folks will learn from this great video !! Best of luck to you. Looking forward to your gold in sulfides recovery !

I am happy to see a video that explains the specific science of fine gold recovery in a sluice.... I watch too many people dump material into a badly angled and flowing sluice and then wonder why there cleanup didn’t have very much gold... 😅 And yes you are completely right when you mention that just because you see fine gold in your pan , IT DOESNT MEAN you got all the gold.... it’s just means you dumped a bunch out while having kept the fines you are seeing remaining in your pan... So many experienced miners don’t understand this concept and it blows my mind haha 🤯🤣 Hopefully they watch this video and start properly sluicing and slowing down there panning !!!

clay works like glue in a sluicebox (or a Pan) the gold sticks to it like nothing else and blows out. avoid putting clay in a sluice, break it up totally, or else the clay will remove the gold from your sluice.

I have a blue bowl and as i run the concentrates i see it wash right down the vortex hole. Blue is good for small pickers & placers but not much else. I also have a sluice box but have yet to set it up. I will do that in the spring. I had a lot of 20 /30/ 50 and 100 screened concentrates and black magnetics That i panned first, then ran through the blue bowl. After the second run i dumped 1/2 of it for Gods cut. Jet Dry vs some say 1-2 drops dish soap. Not all dish soap is the same. Have Jobe 10" sluice w/legs & funky 2" hose attachment box, needs flap to smooth out the water. Trying to find cheap step by step header box build instructions that make sense for converting to highbanker with added garden hose for washing crevices. Keene 6" sluice Tom & Perry's Clean Up Sluice, need simple adjustable stand instructions, plus I think the valve needs to be moved to one side and not straight into the sluice that plastic thingy doesn't reduce the turbulence at all no matter where I turn the valve. I need to know how to set up the smaller sluices or make changes to them from the factory setup. You got a gutter sluice build instructions/video for use in low flow gulches or springs or maybe those corrugated plastic pipes? How would you make the flair for them? How cheaply can you make a recirculating system?

Hello Mr. Chris. I've just finished the whole video without feeling the time passing and I'm so grateful for the enlightenment and the time and the amount of information you offered us through these videos. I'd like to ask you if you don't mind. I live by the Nile river.. is it possible to find fine gold in the Nile river coast? Several years ago I watched a documentray about gold on rivers' coasts but the report's videos was taken in Brazil as I reckon and nothing was about Nile or other rivers around the world. Sorry for my English. I'm still learning.
@ChrisRalph Жыл бұрын
Gold is not present in all rivers. Most rivers have no gold. Where rivers rich in gold feed into the ocean, you can find gold in beach sands. For rivers with no gold, you will not find gold in the beach sands.

The first tiny riffled mat section at the top seems like it's more for getting a quick idea of how much gold is in the dirt one is running immediately, and could be quickly be brushed on down with a paintbrush to reset the "detection mat". It would be nice to have an automated and rate adjustable dirt sprinkler system so that I didn't have to do it one spoonful at a time. I get the impression one should really practice with various sizes of lead flakes, water flows, angles, classifications, etc, and under controlled conditions at home, especially learning what not to do, rather than try to learn the finer points of how a sluice box works in the field, the hard way.

Therefore I never finish the book. So, I get more from videos. Videos keep my attention and I don't get tired. I've been like this my entire life. I don't know why this happens. In school when I had to do a book report, I would never read the book. Either I would have a friend tell me about the book, or I would just make up a story in my head and write that down. I would put an author's name to it and I was good to go. So I thought. The teachers always caught me. They would know that the author I put down never wrote a book like that. But the teachers always liked my stories I made up. But not well enough to give me a good grade on it. So, I will have to stick to your videos that are very educational.

Thank you for the information. I am looking for a good underwater pointer metal detector ... Size of a big cigar.

Most pinpointers are a little larger, but they are on the market.

Hi Chris... thanks for the video. This is a little off topic...but I'm trying to decide between the Minelab Pro-Find 35 and the Fisher F-pulse pinpointer for small nugget recovery. Do you have an opinion on which pointer is better for nuggets in the .1 gram size? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@ChrisRalph2 жыл бұрын
Both are OK, I almost never use a pin pointer, and the one I have is from Whites.

how do you think miners moss compares to say what comes stock on an A52 keene? i bought a roll of moss for dredging because i was told to do so by another dredger but if its comparable it would save me having to swap all of the time
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
Its as good as what now comes stock on an A52, but not significantly better. But its better than what came stock on my 1979 version of the A52, which was indoor-outdoor carpet.
@machinemademan4 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisRalph good enough for me. washing that carpet is a pain!

I do love all that. But a hard job to do is the lack of materials. Anyway, I keep on wachting your videos, to know more about gold stones and more...

Hey Chris I'm in a a really unique situation. I'm working up on an old mill and I'm I'm going for fine gold. Does gold dust float for a short while?
@ChrisRalph2 жыл бұрын
How long it might float depends on the water.

Really enjoyed this presentation. Has anyone invented a machine that adjusts the sluce at maximum and minimum angles with consideration of water volume rate of speed and tested it? Has anyone tested or would it be a good idea to step the miner's moss so that the it would create a water fall effect or would that create too much turbulance? Has anyone tried a round centrifugal device that flows downward using miner's moss or use centipetal force? Just asking. Very good video and I learned a lot. My problem is I live too close to a big river with tributaries too far away to attempt this with very litttle chance of going there. Thanks anyway.
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
Centrifugal force is used to recover gold in bowls like the knudsen bowl

Chris I just watched this again good info. Did you ever do the video on sufides that you talk about in the fine gold recovery video. I have some clay with < 100 mess gold in it. I’m thinking of just putting it back wear I found it. I find more in the tailings than I find in the sluice. Ha
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
It is in progress. The bio-oxidation of sulfides takes time. The sulfides are in my shed with the little bacteria turning them slowly into rust, and after they are done I will extract the gold. But it takes time. So I have started the video, but its not done yet.

Thanks for the great info. You mentioned that you have ran some of the material thru a blue bowl. Does this mean you find the sluice works better & or faster than the bowl for fine gold?

The Washington State beach miners have gotten fine gold recovery down to an art as that's all there is out there. Makes you wonder how many million of ounces are out on the coastal beaches. Not a bad gig for retired guys to go out and make a gram or two per day just for fun and beer money.

Except I heard that Washington State bureaucrats made it pretty much illegal.

And what size pump are you using?
@ChrisRalph4 жыл бұрын
2,000 gallons per hour, it sits in a small bucket at the bottom of the larger tub. The pump runs on 12V and is made for pumping water out of boat sumps. The bucket keeps the sand in the bottom of the tub away. Bought the Tub at Home depot.
