I have a very special leather jacket with a giant hood made of nubuck leather. Really awesome type of leather you should check out if you’ve never worn one. It’s similar to suede but still smooth. Very unique jacket by Rick Owens. I love it so much and these videos make me feel normal about it lol. There really doesn’t even need to be a real point or specific questions. Just hearing this guy talk about what he does for hours is all I need lol.

The key is the resell value. Start off with a Schott or two to see if a higher quality jacket is what you desire. Take good care of your jacket(s) and be open to selling it if need be. If that Himel Bros piece comes around (whether on eBay or directly through the bespoke process), be open to selling your lower end jackets. That process has garnered me Aeros and Eastmans and some rare Japanese horsehide. Always be willing to sell what you have to get what you want.

Something neat is that if you scrub the timeline, you notice how the day gradually turns to night as the interview progresses. Kinda emphasizes just how long the interview actually took. This was a real treasure trove of info though, I think it's rare to have this kind of glimpse into the minds running these high tier leather jacket brands, let alone the mind of one of the best leather workers in the world. This was a great video Carl.

I currently own a Langlitz and a Schott. The Schott is heavier in weight and is worn on cold dry days. My Langlitz is goatskin which is perfect for warmer days any weather. My next jacket will be The Imperial by Himel Bros.

That was a terrific interview. It's fascinating to get into the mind of such a creative person. Earlier I watched the short version about conditioning the jackets and was referred to this full interview. One of the things he mentioned was Murphy Oil Soap for this purpose. When I looked it up, I found that it was made for the use of wood. I haven't found anywhere else where it is used on leather. Could you please clarify this, just in case I misunderstood Mr. Himel. Thanks. Again, terrific interview.

I got a lost worlds Suburban in horsehide . It’s 4 years old and still won’t break in . The sleeves broke in but the body refuses. The zipper broke after 18 months and lost worlds refused to warranty the zipper or the work. So lost worlds will not get anymore of my money. Hope they go broke with attitudes like theirs.

It's kind of sad that an amazing quality jacket made today would be considered normal in the 30s 40s and 50s. clothing might be more plentiful and accessible now, but the average quality has dropped way down. Same for the average level of taste-though the irony is people notice and know quality when they see it, as witnessed by the 'hey man, where did you get that??' comments on the street.

Damn I wish I had watched this video before I purchased my current leather jacket. I got a moto style jacket from Addicts, and it’s quite beautiful/great quality but the armholes really aren’t made for someone with a stocky physique. They’re just a little too high/tight. Next leather jacket will have to be from Himel

I used to believe buy less, buy the best, but then I learnt shit happens, most things don’t last for life, actually is rare for me to have something last more than 10 years even I baby them. I have ruined (or lost) 3 leather jacket in the past 10 years, one was ruined due to humidity, one was torn after it got caught by a weird design metal bench, and one just got lost by the airline check- in luggage went missing...and this is just jackets, not to mention jewelleries got robbed,boot re-sole that has gone wrong...etc so now I just buy things I don’t care if it’s damaged or lost. 😥

You make a point, and I used to think that way. Even considering that, the throw-away crap approach generally does not make sense, especially when you consider enjoyment of wearing or using the product whether it is jackets, shoes, boots, furniture. I have grown to dislike the throw away culture.

@@frankrizzo7185 yea, agreed with your view, what i meant wasnt I only buy one season throw away fashion items, I still buy quality items, just not the very best of the best. like... i would get field leathers's jacket instead of real mccoy to get that quality horsehide experience, or grand stones instead of viberg for the horween shell cordovan experience, and not worry about damaging it. I guess this is why I love Carl's channel, he always finds great quality alternative.

Stitch. Much cheaper. Especially if you have access to leather. Make it with other materials (suede, polyester, denim, drill, canvas, etcetera). There is full grain, top grain, suede, etc. A lock stitch sewing machine, walking foot sewing machine should be enough and good knowledge of the type of needles and threads really helps in creating a beautiful garment.

Ordered from himel bros before, the stitching is just not that good, no where close to the Japanese Brands and Field leathers. Slightly better than Aero.

It's remarkable how the emphasis is on "high prices". A leather jacket does not need necessarily be of an monstrously high price like the Schott's are or the like this man makes. No need to save half a life for an leather jacket. Basically, leather is leather. Any pakistani made leather jacket which is from top grain or full grain leather sewn together with nylon thread will be of equal quality than an "expensive" piece from Himel or Schott. You pay only for the name and expensive american wages - thats all with "expensive" leather jackets. If Himel or Schott or any other "high end" leather companies would make an classic biker jacket from genuine leather (let's say buffalo leather) it would be of the same quality and price as those offered by HWK on amazon being thos between 33$ like I bought 3 of them to 59$. Any biker jacket made by Himel or Schot with genuine leather is not worth more than 60$. Leather jackets are way overpriced for that what they are. I exclusively use the HWK biker jacket as an allround daily jacket. If the paint get's buffed I touch it up myself with Angelus flat black acryllic leather paint. That works wonderfull. The same wear and tear would "expensive" brands show as well. So what's the real difference? Cotton threads are over time attacked by the chemicals chrome tanned leather has in it, I read. These Himel Perfecto style jackets are all over 2600$. That jacket nobody will wear on an daily basis due to fear of damaging it. Looks like Himel uses full grain leather exclusively. Thats a good thing but can be made for 100$ as well instead of the 2600$.

This is all false. You can't get a leather jacket that will last 50 years and look better every year for $100.

Normal wear leather breaks down in about half a year. The americans used leather boots during the civil war and those were made out of full grain leather and oil waxed. Those lasted at most 6 months during the campaign. Imagine the shoe manufacturer would have charged 800$ for each pair as Himel does for their modern leather boots. Nobody would be able to afford it. As well an perfecto leather jacket worn on an daily basis will be down in a few years. So to price it at 2600$ is just ridiculous. Over here country guys use this US civil war boots from full grain leather in wet and dry and they last exactly 6 months as did the boots for the americans during the civil war as well. These cost here about 10$. Nobody in their right mind will in the countryside buy a pair of 800$ boots which anyways will last as well only 6 months. These city guys have jacket up the pricing that much since they use them never and only for show pieces once in a while on city streets. Then, and only then these leather boots will last decades if you smear 'em regularly with oil or waxes. Use an perfecto biker leather jacket daily and you will see it will not last that long and neighter be worthed more than 100$ lest 2600$.
