Great video very informative. I would love to have seen it when I was starting with MoM. Still even now I found some new to me info - thanks a lot. Correction: you can lose your summoning circle and it is not a huge deal (it returns to your capital)l. You need to keep your fortress safe though because if you do you are (almost) out of the game. The two do start together but it is fairly easy to move summoning circle with a standard (arcane) spell that every wizard gets access to. Correction #2: when exploring old dungeons, after the first battle or free loot you get a choice to go deeper or accept current rewards. There is no point to just accept You should always keep exploring as it often results in further loot, usually a better one as well. Even if you are faced with another fight you can still back down (Don't engage) without any consequences. One note though if you explore just the first part of the dungeon it will disappear and you will never get another chance to explore the deeper level.

Okay, great! Thank you for these clarifications! I didn't know you could run and still keep your loot from the dungeon! I lost my summoning circle in a game and it was in my capital, so I had only a limited time to rebuild or move it and couldn't get magic when this was happening so it was really rough.

The two easiest schools for hard level is Life and Nature. Having many nature books give you access to the Elven Archer (fantastic against Sky Dragons), who is OP. Having many Life Books give you a summoning spell that summons the Chosen One who (Incarnation spell) is even more OP than the Elven Archer, particularly from the Lord level and above. If I should pick a starting trait, it would be Alchemy. It gives magical weapons from the beginning, and it also gives you the option to turn gold into power or viceversa at the 1:1 rate. Gold is extremely important in the beginning, mana not so much as you dont have the casting ability anyway.

Sweet lord, a guide for complete beginners that is almost 8 hours long!! Life's just not long enough for that. That's a whole week of my spare time watching videos rather than playing the game So I looked at the game manual and found it's over 350 pages!!! That's a good sized novel

The graphics of the original is better than the new one. The artwork, feel and quality of the old one is way more immersive, gloomy, mysterious, detailed and filled with ambience. The artwork and feel of the new one makes me feel like I am sitting in MS Word... ?

@Cruor3 I guess if you think Colonization was detailed then this counts. It's a great game. I have been playing it off an on for almost 30 years, but it isn't detailed. The technology wasn't there for a game like this to be detailed.

I grew up in that older era too. Yet I struggle to read and make sense of the pixelated blobs of those games now. It's as if those old 14 inch CRT monitors accidently anti-aliased and smoothed everything out! Games (like MOM, Colonisation, Darklands) I had no problem with back then. Yet now, it's not the gameplay, it's that the text is so blocky, I can't read it. The DOSBox smoothing options for those games can't fix it.
