GREAT MEMORIES! I did the same. Granted, I was born in 1999, so I often wish I was there for the Wu Tang era, but I've made many pleasant memories watching these movies over the years. This one was ESPECIALLY formative for me, and help me get through COVID. So glad you found it here! The rabbit hole of Kung fu cinema NEVER ends; so many classics out there waiting for us to watch.

I was obsessed with kung-Fu theater and Bruce-Lee as a kid. Flying Guillotine was one of my favorites movies, I remember trying to make the flying guillotine with a Rubbermaid bowl that my mom had in her kitchen. It came out pretty cool minus the blades but I did have it on a rope and was able to throw it - I had a great time with it along with the Nunchucks (Chuka sticks) that I also made. The only thing I couldn't master was jumping from the ground on top of a roof, but you better believe that I tried. Imagination was the best weapon I ever had.

I used to watch the dubbed version with my jamaican grandfather almost weekly before he became too ill and died in 2020. he'd cook some great food and we'd watch this or drunken master on the alternate weekend. its now one of my favourite martial arts films, to which you can see where the connections between the arcade games Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter took influence from. The Master is just too bad ass when Neu! starts playing.

Great film from my childhood and it would come on TV every other year or so. Looking back now, that heavy industrial guitar intro every time the MOTFG makes his entry is awesome. It's like a White Zombie riff. Although it was cruel, the way the one-arm boxer got rid of the Thai boxer was genius.
@sonofcrystalpepsi1426

For context, the crunchy guitar is taken from a song by the German group Neu!, called "Super 16". It's a slowed-down version of the song "Super", also in this film (it's the punk-rock-esque bit played over the opening credits).

The other two shows that stuck with me were actually Shaw films, The Five Deadly Venoms, and The Kid With the Golden Arm. Supposedly the intro song is one they pirated from the band that performed it, gave them no credit or royalties. Then they took the song, slowed it WAY down, and that is the theme song for the Master of the Flying Guillotine. This is the first version where I saw the non-English dubbed parts with subtitles for the Chinese still left in. I always wondered what "Holla, Holla!" translated into. Also interesting is the Master appears to be wearing a swastika. A lot of people don't realize is that this is an ancient symbol for Buddhism.
@mixmastercj100
@mixmastercj100 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your great comment. Yep! You’re correct. The song is “Super 16” by Neu! - a German “klautrock” band from the early to mid-1970s. It was a slowed down version of the original: the one which you hear in the credit sequence. There’s a sped up version as well, “Super 78.” The music is pretty ahead of its time; sounds straight out of a video game, or a Nine Inch Nails demo tape. As for the subtitles, yeah that was one thing that annoyed me when I first saw the film a couple years ago, and I had to buy the DVD to get them, so I figured I’d put the film out there w/ subs for peeps to see. And yes LOL, that part always amused me too. If I remember correctly, what she’s saying is “Hao le, hao le” - I speak a bit of Mandarin - which generally means “okay” or “alright.” Really hope this gets a blu ray release soon. In the meantime though, glad you enjoyed my upload. :)

Anybody remember an old movie from the 80s or 90s where they have fight to the death scenes and throw the dead down chutes and the main fighter guy has blades in his hair? The fights took place on a sandy pit with a cage around it. He loses in the end and the hero uses those hair blades on him. Its not American Gladiator etc. Its a VERY rare movie shown on tv long ago. Nobody can find this movie.

Almost all Kung Fu movies are about a hero out to avenge his master. This one is backwards in that it's about a villain out to avenge his students.

@malachiseerisrael 😮 REALLY?…. Are you sure you’ve got the right person? This film’s movie actress is Doris Lung Chun-Erh. I mention that because there’s a different female actor staged named ‘ Lily Li ’ who also starred in several Classic Kung Fu films (Ex: Daggers 8, Slice of Death, Etc.) during this same era and there might be some confusion.

@@demonikexorcist interesting. I would not be surprised. Run Run Shaw did seem to run things in a pretty "Iron Fist" sort of way. I've heard that if there was any cut of a film that he didn't like, he would burn the reel right in front of the director and make them do it over again. Mona Fong was way, WAY worse though.
